"Camping" general opinion
Hello everyone
Let me explain my concerns. I was asked by a friend to play against them in a custom match, i took jumpscare wraith and i killed them all. Then that person threatened to kill me IRL because i "camped". Now let me ask, if I hook someone, and i know for a fact every other survivor is around the hook, should i leave the map so they get the unhook, or am i allowed to keep chasing them? Because i feel like if they dont learn to not ######### around the hook and learn when to safe unhook, then i am going to get called a "camper". I just want to ask, is this camping?
Im just posting this since this kind of made me question all this.
Thanks for reading

There is no rule against camping. Whether or not you know they are close to the hook. You should be playing how you want.
edit: Also, your friend is a dick.

Ok, so in my opinion, if you know for a fact that the others are right there, then its a bit more lenient.
To me, camping is hooking a surv, knowing full well everyone is either across the map, or that theres a couple in the vincinity, and doing it just because you can. It's not letting them escape even where theres a low possibility that they will.
Now, if there's a high probability that they'll escape, camping becomes more of a "please don't loiter" situation in which its a little harder to blame someone for. Given, that you should usually allow a small chance to let them get unhooked if only for the sake of downing another player.

I don't know why do you even question yourself things like that.
If they all are wasting time around the hook, you just take advantage of that and get free hits and downs.
I wonder what's the rank of all your "friends" (because I don't think a friend should want you dead IRL), because that's the typical play-style of low rank survivors. Gathering in group and literally suiciding.
Also, I never understood why survivors are always concerned about "camping" and "tunneling". If they killer does that, just gen rush and finish, not a big deal. Who complains about this, just shows their low skill at the game.

agreed, pluss some killers encourage you to tunnel, like Ghost Faces fugitive chase.

If you're chasing them next to a hook, that isn't camping. Problem is that, and especially in the lower ranks, Wraiths are notorious facecampers.
The survivors here also played terribly and are trying to make themselves feel better.

If you know the hook is being swarmed, what are you gonna do, patrol gens not even being worked on?
They're salty

I found this in another thread about the perceived fun of the camper and think it is one of the best categorization of "camping behaviours and their intends:
(Edit: Careful, wall of text!)
"There are different kinds of playstyles that people sum up as camping eventhough they have completly different intends and results.
1) Classic Facecamping aka Bubbas realm:
- Intent: To kill the person on the hook
- Distance: "Smell their breath"-distance
- Will leave the hook: When the survivor dies
- Counter: DO the gens and leave, the person on the hook should waist as much time as possible!
2) Close proximity patrolling aka I know people are not near the hook, but I will still patrol in 8m radius because I realy need this kill.
- Intent: To kill the person on the hook
- Distance: up to 8m and quick turning back
- Will leave the hook: When the survivor dies
- Counter: 3 People teamwork can save against most killer in the game - does not work on Bubba, Oni with power, Meyers with power, Plague with power
3) Close proximity patrolling aka I saw you hidding and noone else on BBQ I will not leave because I have nowhere to go
- Intent: To hunt a different person but without gifting them a free unhook, because you are not obligated to do so at all
- Distance: up to 8m and quick turning back
- Will leave the hook: When there is a new survivor to hunt and NO clicking flashlight 30m away then tbag and then imidiantly start running away will NOT motivate to leave, if you want an exhange the come close enough to be considered an offering to leave the hook, because you need to understand that the time is running for the killer you will need to interfere eventually so do it right away
- Counter: Over the killer a chase alternative, most killer will happily accept gameplay instead of hookpatroling, but like I said before dont BM, dont flashlight click, dont Tbag! This will not motivate but just make the killer more angry not to leave you a free unhook.
4) Far proximity patrolling aka I saw that you are near the hook, but I am feeling great today so I will gift you the unhook and hunt the one who unhooked
- Intent: Gift the survivor the unhook eventhough it is not the most effective thing to do at all and then hunt the unhooker
- Distance: The closest thing to do aka the closest gen to kick the closest pallet to break
- Will leave hook: already did leave, but will return for the person who unhooked
- Counter: DONT hide, if the killer returns and there is only the injured person from the hook this will be his target, if you saved then take the responsibility and play with the killer instead of farming your teammate!
5) Leaving the hook but person gets unhooked so I return aka I was not camping you are just impatient
- Intent: Hunt people, you are vault that you dont allow the killer to leave!
- Distance: variable
- Will leave hook: already did leave, but had to return because its the closest save survivor top hunt
- Counter: dont unhook while in heartbeat or while not in chase
6) I was hunting that one person who discided to go near the hook and then start using the loops around the hook aka ######### should I do? Just leave? May I maybe go serve you some cold drings when you unhook for free?
- Intent: Hunting the person
- Distance: Close to the prey
- Will leave the hook: already did, you just brought the killer back to the hook
- Counter: Dont bring the person near the hook
Doing the first kind of camping aka "Classic Facecamping aka Bubbas realm" is bad at any situation and I have no excuse for that! EVERY other kind of "camping" has his place in the game and is not only viable but even CRUCIAL to do under some circumstances if you want to win the game. 4-6 is not camping, people calling this camping just experience it this way because its from they perspective. 3 is viable thing to do because you are not obligated to give a free unhook, survivor do not gift you a gen nore do they offer them selfs to be hooked when the doors are open at the end of the day.
2 is also viable especially if you are defending survivor and a gen or a gate in the same time or the gates are open and this is the only thing to do to get a kill! Survivor often demand that you leave the hook and start hunting a different person BUT the person that is offering himself as the prey does not give you a fair chance to get him, he has several second chance perks and an opned gate very close and even then there are 3 other survivor with flashlights and pallets ready to save him. You are the killer, you need to kill, the person that you will kill with the highest chance is the person on the hook, leaving the hook without an advantage to hook the next person is stupid and should not be done if you want to win."

Thank you all for assisting me here, I guess i will just send him this link so he can see he was a bit mistaken lol.

A dirty but LEGAL strategy.

If I know people are crouching around in proximity of a hooked survivor I don’t mind proxy camping, but I don’t “face camp”

camping in low - mid MMR will work for sure, because nobody understands what is happening, but higher up it could net you one single kill against a decent team, possibly two but usually just one and you will not "win" by camping, you will get less scoring for less chases, less gen protection, less hits, less hooks, less kills
its much better to exert pressure, hook someone, find someone else really fast and hit them, return to the hook, hit the rescuer (always assume BT and DS) and try and down them, you want the survs to leave gens to save and heal, from there you have big snowball potential.
lower skill killers get a false positive when they rank up from camping and getting one or two kills, since ranking up down in brown, yellow, is simple, same as how gen rushing at lower skill range for survs gives a false positive too, it's not until purple ranks you realize as a newb surv that you have to get more saves and heals and you have to win a chase or two to climb

High quality bait.

it's funny how you say that, cause people are actually just sharing their opinions and vibing. take a picture before you leave, because you probably won't see ######### like this again.
0 -
That's exactly the reason why it is high quality.

Excuse my retardation, but aren't forum baits supposed to be one guy purposely saying something that starts an argument and makes everyone angry and turn the whole thread into a massive argument? I see none of that here.
0 -
The killers are supposed to initiate the chases, not just sit there and wait after a single survivor is hooked.
0 -
You play how you want to play because they will play how they want to play.

BEEP. Incorrect, but thank you for playing. Killers are supposed to kill survivors by whatever means necessary. Sometimes (often) active patrolling and hunting is the best strategy. Sometimes, however, particularly against certain SWF, bait is more effective. I will chase, tunnel, camp, and Mori to get the job done. Every game is different.

If you see a survivor working their way towards a hooked player or red marks heading that way, you're just doing what you should as a killer; pursuing the survivors. It's the fault of a survivor if they're being chased and they run towards a hooked player instead of away to allow one of their other teammates the chance to pull the person off the hook.
You're not camping the hook because of poor survivor chase skills or because you see three of them walking towards the hook so you choose to stay until you know you can get a chase with value started.

I feel like camping is more when you literally stand right infront of the hooked person and don't move. I face a killer every few matches that does that. Chasing people around the hook isn't as bad. That's when the team has to come together. One is the distraction, the other unhooks. Most people who aren't SWF use kindred anyway, so they'll be able to see

That is everything you need to know about camping:

My opinion is that it's just boring.
If i get camped, i usually just play my soundtrack playlist and/or go to these forums.
And since i'm in control as Killer, i just don't camp while also often using Perks that reward me for not doing so, like Make Your Choice, Hex: Devour Hope & Pop Goes The Weasel.
As for when a fellow Survivor gets camped AND i'm aware of it, i just do what i mostly do in trials: Repair.
I never use Perks that can help them in that situation anyway.
