How do "friendly killers" think?

I only got into the game around a month ago or so, and let me tell you, I have run into my fair share of those so-called "friendly killers". Either those that just let everyone escape, or those that are friendly to only the last survivor.

My question to you friendly killers out there: Exactly how do you think when you are being a so-called "friendly killer"?

Should it be a bannable offense?

In my opinion, whenever I run into one of them, I cringe, because I know I have to complete the match because otherwise I'll get a matchmaking cooldown. And knowing that the killer is just making it too easy makes me feel... uncomfortable.

So, what's the deal with being friendly? Is it better to be friendly, rather than actually playing the game? Is it fun? Is it... right?

I don't know... I just... I guess I don't like it when people don't play the game the way it's supposed to. Maybe it's a playstyle, but the idea of the game is that the killer is just supposed to kill the survivors and nothing else. Why break that idea? Is it fun? Is it nice?

I dont think it should be a bannable offense. I rarely see a friendly Killer out there, if I would guess, I would say I had around 200 games without any farming Killer lately. A Legion yesterday decided ot let me go (Console player btw, they are not as bad as some players are writing on this forum), but thats basically it for a long time.

But I can imagine that in low Ranks friendly Killers are more common, because those might be Survivor Mains who do not enjoy playing Killer but are doing it for Archive Challenges or Daily Rituals.

Also, if a Killer farms, it can be exactly for that - Archive Challenges. Like, I farmed the Challenge to get two Grabs in one game (this was the only Challenge I farmed so far), just because the game does not register them all the time and I rather do not want to waste hours of my time just to try to get something done which is out of my control.

But like I said - it is pretty rare, from my point of view.

And I get that not everyone likes to farm, but if that is the case, just do Gens and get out.

I tend to think I'm not a friendly killer, but rather a sporting killer. This means I give everyone a fair whack.

I'll attempt to hook everyone at least once before I think of knocking people out of the game; I don't tunnel; if I see someone unhooked I'll go for the rescuer (but if the saved is dumb enough or cocky enough to get in the way I'll slug them, but leave for someone to pick up).

In terms of escaping, I also play in character. Whilst with Wraith or Hillbilly I'll aim to sacrifice them all, but with Trapper he may let someone go if they were close enough to the exit barrier (even though I may fake the intentiom, walk to a hook, then turn round and deop them off).

Basically, I character-play, with an aim of making the game sporting for all (which benefits me as it makes me improve skills, and others so they actually feel the round was worth it).

Your referring to that borderline grey area where being nice and farming points seem to intertwine a bit. I use to be a hard ass but sometimes I’ll be sympathetic or nice if something seems broken or two people DC. I do feel the cringe when a killer signals a farm fest and everybody starts goofing around.

I hate these matches. Sure if the killer lets the last one go because he played well or something then its okey i guess but i really HATE these ,,farming" or ,,friendly killer" matches. So useless and boring.

A friend of a sibling always let's the last kne go because "there has to be one that escapes in a horror movie, to share the story".

Me though? I've been on the other end of the more underhanded killer tactics and it SUCKS. Not to mention that sometimes slugging someone instead of risking a DS is actually really good pressure for a killer with zero mobility.

Sometimes someone will DC or remove themselves rather quickly and it also sucks for everyone else and I don't want others to be punished for the actions of others.

If the survivors are struggling, I'll play nice. Usually after two-hooking everyone. I mean all you really have to do is do gens and get out. Or you can go up to the killer, point to a hook and let them know you want out. They may oblige.

I don't know that "friendly killer" is the right term. I'm more of a "sportsmanship" type player though. I don't enter into matches feeling like I have to destroy the other side in order to prove anything. I just enter in the hopes of having some fun, making lots of BP and maybe having one of those weird, funny DbD moments occur. I don't try-hard because I don't give a care about wins/losses.

    Some examples:

Last night I find 2 survivors stuck at the base of a hill. I goof around with them for a couple seconds while they teabagged like little hungry ducklings. So, I downed them, picked one up and let her wiggle free. I walked off and downed the Adam. Why? It absolutely sucks to get stuck in a game map and then you can't defend yourself. You get downed, hooked, tunneled, out. No fun. So, I let them go. The poor Nea got stuck again later in the same game. I shook my head at her, downed her, and moved on. I still 4k'd, but I did not have to get sweaty to do it. These were all red rank players, so it's not like they were incompetent. Just bad luck.

On another match, I had this Nea that was very good at mind games. I had everyone on death hook, but her and I started goofing off at the killer shack. She evaded me with a nice window juke, so I sat at the window hitting it. She kept crouching up to the window looking up at me and turning circles. It was just a funny moment. Ultimately, 2 died, 2 escaped - I wasted time goofing off, but it was worth it. We had some great laughs after the match and I added a few people to friends list.

I don't play to be friendly as a killer. I just play with a mindset of being fair, and trying to understand that it is living people on the other side. Some are jerks, some are cool. I ignore the jerks and enjoy meeting the cool ones. It's called empathy, not the perk, the actual skill. I can empathize with people and how much a situation may suck. I try to do that no matter what I'm doing.

Don't get me wrong, if we were engaged in a competition that mattered, or where money was on the line, or the welfare of my family....I will seek and destroy without hesitation. I did it in the military, as a law enforcement officer, and in my current career. But this is a GAME. It is not worth having the seek and destroy mentality. It is just for fun and relaxation.

i consider myself a good sport when i play killer.

if the survivors are sandbagging each other, i stomp them to hard or only one guy is actually playing the game properly while the others just sort of troll the game i will usually lay down my blade/claw/gun and help the ones who are being victimized by them and help them farm a bit because i know what its like to be on that end of the sword as a solo survivor.

    Some common reasons:

    1. Practicing a killer they don't normally play
    2. Feeling sorry for the survivors
    3. DCs
    4. Deranking at the end of the season
    5. Doing a a quest or a daily
    6. Survivor main

when I'm in a friendly mood I'll usually just one or 2 hook everyone, then suddenly become brain dead and do things like head toward the farthest hook to give them time to wiggle off, drop chase too early. prioritize kicking gens and breaking pallets, fall for flashlights when I'm walking up on a survivor, etc. It keeps the match interesting for all while still rewarding crazy amounts of bloodpoints. I've had a match where 2 survivors had 32k when I played like that. I don't enjoy farming matches because it's boring for both sides, but I do enjoy knowing that those people felt like they just barely escaped

If Survivors play at good skill, I will play a normal game, but if they're really bad, i will just toy with them real hard and let them leave.

For last week I faced 4 Brown as Green rank. I do this because I want to give them chance to learn how to make chase. I mean, if they're lucky, they can get 6 hits before scarified, if not they can get tunneled out of hook then die in 4 hits. No chance to learn the game.

Like others have said, I see myself as a sporting killer rather than being nice.

I don't tunnel or camp. If I run into someone who I just hooked (either from a bad save or just unlucky), I'll generally slug them (so they get a penalty but not a death sentence).

If I don't need the 4k (like I'm going for an Adept), I'll have no issue letting someone go if they had a well played match with good sportsmanship. Or if it's clear they're a new player, I am much more likely to be merciful and let them go. They need the points a lot more than I do.

It's kind of baffling that someone would complain about this, let alone call it to be a bannable offense. If you don't want the charity or whatever, then stand there and let the EGC take you or point at the hook and I'll stick you onto it if you insist. This game can be toxic as hell so if I get the chance to "reward" someone not playing like a toxic asshat and I have the desire or the wiggle room to reward them for it, I'm damn sure going to take it. Hopefully they can pass it on and make the game just a little bit better

Speaking for myself, my mindset is that I play Killer primarily for points. So if there's a cake or Bloody Party Streamers offering extra points to everyone in the game, I'm happy to get my Barbecue stacks, Max out my non Sacrifice points, and let everyone escape since that's an extra 10k points for them. If someone D/Cs or kills themselves on hook, far as I'm concerned that's their problem. Likewise if someone proves a One Down Wuss and D/Cs off the bat, I'll go from serious mode to farm mode to give the rest something for their trouble and feel like I'm punishing the one who noped out.

If I have the option to end a game early I typically won't. As I said, I'm in it for points and longer games favor that. If I'm up for a challenge or ritual, I'll sweat until I've got it then back off or at least play more relaxed. Unless the ritual is to get kills/ sacrifices. Then I'll go for the 4k since that's fairest to everyone.

In general games, I'll play to win but I'm not super serious about it, since I'll get my points either way. I try not to play in a way I consider scummy, such as tunneling, because that's the kind of thing I hate when I play survivor and feel no interest in inflicting that on others. I usually compromise a bit though, so i don't just throw the game. For example, if given the opportunity I will slug off a hook, but I won't rehook nor impede the pickup. Basically the slug keeps pressure but rehooking immediately is just the kind of thing that would irritate me if i were in that position. The slug would too, but at least I'm not potentially taken full on out of the game.

That's my mindset. I can't speak to anyone else.

Why are you concerned with how someone plays? If it's not a bannable offense I don't see an issue.

  • Hamster6041

I may be quite concerned when it may not be so fun to play if the killer does it, is all. Sure, it may not be bannable, but in my opinion, when someone is not playing the game as it should be, I don't like it. The killer is supposed to be escaped from, feared, but when that doesn't happen, it just feels wrong.

I am mommy killer who has to feed baby survivors hefty amounts of bloodpoints.

Honestly though it's really fun BSing around tbagging with survivors as Ghostface and giving them tons of bloodpoints. The "You made my day!" messages really make me happy as well.

Wow killers can’t be sweaty or nice... what the heck is wrong with some survivor? I don’t wanna hard core farm with a killer but if they give me hatch or go AFK after doing their daily I accept the free escape and points with gratitude

  • Zeidoktor
    Zeidoktor Member Posts: 2,065

I once got called the nicest Ghost Face ever. With all the super sweaty killers out there, getting one who is fine with farming, or at least screwing around, is usually a nice change of pace I think.

I have a friend who only plays killer to get tome challenges done but she won't kill anyone. Like flat out refuses to kill anyone because she thinks it's mean. She's the sweetest most innocent little bean.

Though I don't know what she's going to do when she gets to a challenge that requires kills. She probably won't do it to be honest.

Personally I think it makes the game boring if it happens too often. I'll definitely take a farming killer once in a while. It's good to have a break from playing like a try hard but if it's multiple games in the same session, then I'm like.... get me out of this match pls

Hmph...well now I have to be EXTREMELY nice to reclaim the grand title of Nicest Ghostface Ever. Jk jk lol

Yeah as someone who plays both sides but more so survivor, I understand how relieving it is so just have a chill fun game where everyone gets tons of points. It's a feels good moment that usually survivors will remember.

I’m still on vacation from this game (still addicted to the forums for some reason), but when I played friendly as a Killer, it was usually after having a string of bad experiences against sweaty Killers when I was playing Survivor. I’d just switch over to Killer and try to spread some love. More people appreciate it than you think, and many even offered themselves up at the end.

If you don’t like it, all you have to do is work on gens and leave. You can also beckon the Killer to follow you and point at a hook so you can die.

I simply have not reason to go for a 4k with everything I've got. Doesn't feel more rewarding than 1k, after some time. Also I know how toxic other killer can be in all ranks with only meta perks and Moris. But survivor are the same with generally 12 of 16 perks being meta most often.

I play mostly for the bp and the gameplay itself.

Those two reasond result in my playstyle being getting my BBQ stacks, while not tunneling or camping (both boring as hell).

If they didn't manage to get 1 or 2 gens by that point I just Double Hook everyone and then proceed to hit and down one or two until I am satisfied and if they still didn't manage 5 gens I start killing them one after the other. I stopped playing farming games in the first six months since they take forever and are boring as hell at some point.

    Last one mostly gets hatch.

If they are competent enough I just play normal but still try to go for 3 hooks each without camping, if they don't hook dive or whatnot. Last one might again get hatch.

Hardcore Tbagger and bodyblocking trolls on the other hand get tunneled down out of the game.

FYI in the middle ranks you can still double pip without even one kill with this playstyle and even get merciless which I find strange and funny.

Edit: I hate autocorrect on mobile.

it shouldn't be a bannable offense why would you think it would be but i do let the last one go sometime if the match was long and fun not toxic.

  • ChiSoxFan11

I often give the hatch (or sometimes, the door) to the last survivor, depending on the situation. If I feel the last survivor has earned it by being exceptionally tough to face (without being toxic), it might feel like they earned it. If I'm playing a particularly tough build that wipes out a team quickly, I'll sometimes show mercy to the last survivor left. I've given the door to someone who booped the snoot when I play as The Pig. When I've been brought to the hatch as a survivor after a particularly tough game, I'm grateful. As killer, I've had people in game leave a toolbox or med-kit at the door when I've let someone out -- it's nice to know someone else is grateful to be shown that occasional mercy as well.

It's not always about getting the 4K -- I play enough of both sides to know that playing "nice" can go a long way towards making someone else's day better. As someone already has said, at the end of the day, it's a game and not life or death.

As far as a farming match, I've had a couple as killer where I've had multiple people DC at the start of a match, or immediately after being downed for the first time. If it's turned into a 2 vs. 1 and 4-5 gens are left to do, I don't want to penalize the other two players who are getting sandbagged by selfish teammates, so I've allowed those players to finish the game out and escape (though getting them to realize that I'm not going to relentlessly tunnel them out can be sometimes difficult to communicate, lol -- which probably speaks to the number of times they've been killed quickly under similar circumstances).

There's a definite difference between those making a mockery of the game and those who are avoiding being a "try-hard". The game is supposed to be fun. When you can't have a little fun (again, without making a mockery of normal gameplay), then that's the bigger problem.

    Hello 🐖

I am a friendly killer and I'm very proud of my friendly ways. I am deeply sad to see you do not enjoy these types of games.

I really try my up most to provide the most fun game I can possible for those in my trails. I have never really cared about kills or ranks or much about anything really just having fun!

I like to provide a sense of dread but with utter fairness no camp no tunnel no helmet blocking etc.

Just things I personally dislike as a survivor I don't do to others.

I will take my kills but like to give respect to those I feel have played really well or billy box has speared.

Sometimes I just let everyone go because why not lol normally ends in a massive boop party and alot of fun had by all.

I play both sides and honestly it's ruff out there I just want to provide a brake from all of that and do things differently.

Trying for 8 hook games is my favorite, then I get a ton of BPs and the survivors all get their bonus 5k for escaping which is huge for some people still. Toss in the fact that I have been bringing cakes non stop for a while now and that's 10k bonus points I'm letting them have I feelgood about that.

Now I'm not always letting them win, sometimes I get pounded and to those survivors I say CHEERS, I usually do well enough to get a lot of points anyways and 4 stacks of BBQ.

  • SMitchell8

If a survivor D/C's early then i ll allow the last survivor to escape as a 5 gen 3 man is only ending one way, unless the survivors are bloody good.

Oh yeah the b-day cakes I been using them too. Same here I don't go ever game letting them escape I do kill especially if I'm running devour hope or I just feel the need to.

Exactly if I got my 4 stacks and I couldn't get a kill and I just got steamed rolled it's whatever wait for them to finish the last gen so I can open the gate and find I nice corner to stair at until their done celebrating that they got to escape

When I do be a friendly killer I dont do it to farm but to play with the survivors. It's nice but I rarely do it anymore.
