To all the determined players of Dead by Daylight... How do you still hang around?
How? How can you keep playing this game every day, every night, with little to no stop, and keep on going, despite what's going on in the background, in the community? Do you really just not care that there's a constant conflict between the Survivors and Killers? If that's so, I salute you. I respect you for being able to continue playing with a calm composure, without a care in the world. You don't HAVE to care, if you somehow enjoy the game. A lot of the aspects of Dead by Daylight are infuriating. Some of them are even unfair, no matter which side we're talking about. I don't think I need to list any of them at all, as they've been constantly talked about on the forums ever since this game was released. Nevertheless, it doesn't matter what I think.
What do YOU think?

Because its fun.

Because i have fallen in love with the game regardless of how it has some imperfections its still the only one of its kind and because of that it keeps me coming back but don't get it twisted i have my breaks from the game but i always find my way back.

I play for the love of the game, the competition, and challenging myself to achieve certain things. The long and the short of it is I don't care what anyone says. I think all the winging and whining is funny and/or pathetic. If I pay attention to it at all, it is because I've nothing better to do. I play both Killers and Survivors. There is no conflict except what goes on inside the game. The garbage outside is just a bunch of losers, wannabes, and Trolls who apparently have too much time on their hands.

This can't be just it. Why is it fun? Elaborate. Do you main Killer, or Survivor? Do you escape every time you play as a Survivor, or do you always get 4k's as a Killer? Do you have 1000+ hours in the game?

I like the game, its fun. And if someone is a bad individual, I ignore them. I knew toxic communities for years, so I am not even sure if the DBD Community is the worst.
(e.g. I played World of Tanks for years, and being an international game played with WW2-Tanks, there is quite some racist stuff going on in the Chat, even tho, it got better)
And regarding unbalanced things...eh. I think, aside from Moris and Keys, the game is quite balanced. Its not as bad as some people claim it to be.

I'm waiting for something more interesting to come along.
I'm an MMO player at heart so waiting for Ashes of Creation and Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen.
Those will be finished in a number of years and right now nothing else grabs my attention so here I am.
But as soon as something better comes along I'll probably jump ship. M2

Why do I keep coming back?
Are you familiar with Bartles Taxonomy of Player Types?
I am very much an Explorer. Between 20 killers with I don't even know how many perks and then the Survivor side with all their perks... there's a lot of potential builds to get access to, and try out. That's what keeps me coming back.

Gonna stop you right there.
You don't need to play the game every day, or day in and day out. I can't imagine why you ever would unless you're a streamer. Treating the game as a game, i.e. something to do for fun when you have time to kill, is the only real to enjoy yourself.

I've left the game a few times due to becoming frustrated with toxic players, issues with bugs, games crashing, etc. The last time was for several months and I swore I'd never go back to it.
But I did; the game is fun for the most part and I missed the social aspect of playing SWF. Now that cross play is up and running, I've found it even better as lobbies are found much quicker (seconds instead of minutes), killer rounds now match me with my own skill level most of the time so now I can actually play killer and not get the run around. The game is fun again!

Because I'm still having fun lol.

I love the game, the concept, the characters, even most of the gameplay. I don´t play all day everyday though.
In my opinion the passionate discussions about the issues the game suffers from contribute to a positive development.
I agree though that certain aspects ARE infuriating and I appreciate people campaigning for reasonable changes, be it Moris, SWF or Object of Obsession to name a few of the worst offenders.

I’m not playing but I hang around the forums because I’m still interested in the game. Like others have said, it’s fun. It’s very unique and no other game is like it. I just think the devs need to rewrite the games code from the ground up and make some more balance adjustments.
They really need to start balancing Killers vs SWF and they need to fix matchmaking to where people are properly grouped with similar skilled players. I know matchmaking for this game is very difficult since there are many variables to determine a players skill, but they really do need to go all in and figure it out.

4King the super altruistic SWF in my Trapper basement puts a smile on every time. These matches are often Benny Hill sketches that are sadly lacking cleavage. Even better if they're a 3 man and feel the need to apologize to the random they let die.

It's a fun game. It's fun to save people under the nose of the killer, to get chased, to survive (or die) at the last minute. It's fun to chase people and hook them, landing skillshots and guessing correctly on a loop. Every game is different- there's variety of maps, tiles, killers, perks, teammates, opponents, etc.
I play both about the same amount. I don't need to escape or 4k to get enjoyment in the game, that mentality will just lead yourself to frustration. I've got almost 200 hours I think.

I write mostly in the forums. Looking out for patch notes if there is something interesting. Play 1-3 games/month since a year or so.
Fits right into my day since I work anyways everyday on a pc.
That will maybe change one day for the better, but not in the current state of the game. Need that to say sadly. But who knows? Maybe one day I write less in the forums again and play for it more, as in the past :).

It's just a fun time for me, as either Survivor or Killer. Sure, it's got moments where teammates are complete idiots, or survivors you VS will bulldoze you into the ground, but I honestly don't care about that. I like to play the game and just mess around. A lot of people take the game too seriously in my eyes. I personally like to hop on and just throw random perks on and go wild. Test myself, practice with new builds. It keeps the game fresh for me, compared to using the same 4 perks over and over again.

for the most part it fun nice meet people who like this game are horror movies.

I mean I am over 1000 hour, I am a killer main but i also play survivor. I keep playing the game, I enjoy playing it, I have fun playing with friends. Its fun.

For starters I don't play DBD all the time, and it's one of 3-4 games I play on and off. Nowadays I can't really imagine playing one (1) game all the time, I burn out from just about any game that's not new to me if I do that.
And why do I keep DBD in that rotation of games? It's just fun, I can't really describe it any more than that. I open the game, get in some matches and it's an enjoyable time for me.

I'm always an addict for multiplayer games. It was Call Of Duty Black Ops 1/2/3 zombies for the longest time, then fortnite for a short while and now this. If I wasn't playing with mates then I couldn't play solo or killer for more than a month tbh.

If you ignore the bugs and the bad community, this is a pretty fun and solid game.

What is fun about winning every game?
0 -
Why should the conflict between the two sides affect me? It's an asymmetrical game, conflict is pretty much unavoidable.

It's not like i don't know that lots of people can be actually toxic, and that there's quite a few problems with the game itself in various ways.
But i play games solely to entertain myself.
And the game still entertains me with its core gameplay.

Because I enjoy the game. When I get to a point that I stop enjoying it, I stop playing for a few weeks/month. Usually, once I take a lengthy break, I can enjoy it again.

addiction

Because its a game. everyone needs to stop taking it so seriously.

Because as questionable as some of the design decisions can be, there's no other game of this genre that consistenly grows in playerbase and updates.

Exactly.

I try not to take the game too seriously. But the conflict, the drama, the randomness of the matches, the bizarre things teammates and/or opponents do, the endless debates and arguments about balance and the design of the game, it’s all fun and addictive and as long as you don’t take any of it personally, it’s really enjoyable.

Don't take the game seriously. That alone will massively improve your experience.

In 2017 I did nothing but play DBD all day on both sides.
Game was so unbalanced but there was something about it that kept me coming back to play both sides. Killer 4Ks were extremely satisfying, none of the killers were unfun (except a god nurse), and Borrowed Time came out early 2017 to make up for the fact that a LOT more killers camped back then. I could literally wake up on Saturday and play until early morning sunday with my friends, and switching it up with killer breaks in between. Twitch community was thriving since release and the game was small enough that you saw the same faces often, but not too often.
I took long breaks but always came back. I can safely say, I do not have that same feeling anymore. Even after long breaks I get bored of DBD after 2 games, it still has its really good moments but it is nowhere near as fun as it was back in 2017. I keep coming back and trying it out to see if they can replicate that feeling but its clear they want to go for "balance" which doesn't exist in a game like this.

I've fallen for the game, sure things like killers tunneling, camping or survivors being toxic with me for no reason at all is annoying, but this Just bothers me for the way. As for gameplay aspects things like balance or fairness doesnt really bother me, as a survivor main i know im going to ter wrecked by the killer anyway so i don't really care. The only thing that really annoys me is bugs.

I play both sides equally, and along my travels through the fog I've encountered all sorts of people! I've met the best, the worst, the neutral, the funny, the competitive, the selfish and those who save me at the detriment of their success.
One thing both sides have in common is that they have players that represent all of the above. Neither side are angelic or evil. The battle is usually based on a few negative experiences, rather than the swathe of positive or enjoyable experiences.
People will not win every time. They should not expect this. Play for the enjoyment. If you are no longer enjoying it, give it some space, or at least play another game alongside.

I play because I'm good at it
but then i get hit by a killer with 200ping through a vault and go play WoW and try again next week
0 -
Why would anyone play a game if they don't like it lmao

I could care less what goes on in the community. I keep in-game chat permanently closed. I don't care what survivors find toxic. I don't care what killers find toxic. I don't care about the us vs them mentality on the forums. I don't care about my rank.
I play DbD for one reason only: the slasher horror fantasy. Whether it's hunting or running, that's it for me. It's just a chill, casual game. Win some, lose some.

It happens. I've been playing Overwatch since 2016. Nowdays, even after breaks, I can't seem to play more than a day or two before I am over it. And I don't mean for hours a day or two, I mean maybe two or three matches a night. Is it because the game got bad? No. I'm just bored with it after four years.
I'll be logging in on Tuesday with the Friends & Family group to get the 9-wins for the Orisa summer event exclusive skin (final skin for this damned event). But after those 9-wins, I probably won't touch it again except here and there and will just keep playing DbD. And they'll be back in WoW except for the occasional night of Overwatch once every couple of weeks.
See, due to killer queues on PC, especially as a low ranked killer, I barely played DbD since buying it in 2018. Survivor just doesn't hold me as a main game play. Now with cross-play, I can actually get killer matches.

i enjoy it because I'm on the power side.
When i play survivor i always do it with friends, because solo is objectively unplayable. We are all pretty good survivors, so we can do basically whatever we want. we dominate.
as killer is the same thing. i am quite good, to the point where i rarely lose, and when i lose its almost never because survivors crush me.
I'm not at the mercy of other players. i dominate. i do whatever i want.
This may seem a childish answer but its the mere truth, if i were on the weak side i would never play a ridicoulusly umbalanced game as much as i do now.

Well, the game is good, the idea behind it was good. It was just very very poorly realized. I feel like no, actually I know I could balance the game way better than BHVR does. That said, the thing is this game started a new genre. And when something gets started from a product, like things being called "soulslike" and "Diablo clones", you know people liked that stuff. But yes, this game still has the longest way to go in the industry.
