Is this the best that cross-play matchmaking has to offer?
I miss the MMR. It wasn't perfect, but it was better than this.

Matchmaking never worked.
Also, you were playing against a probably PC killer, that's a difference if you are on console.
If we take into account that ranking up as killer is harder than survivor due to the broken matchmaking, to be a rank 1 killer you need to be good at it.

The MMR seemed to be just starting to work properly for me when they pulled the plug, feels bad.

I miss MMR, the only time it seemed i had issues with a lesser opponent was if the 1st killer matched up dodged. Playing as killer also seemed right after so many matches I actually played some killers i had never played before.

For me too. I play more survivor than I do killer, but when rank disparity is equal to or greater than ten levels, then the matchmaking is nothing but a joke.

Being able to test out a killer you've never played with before was the MMR's biggest advantage. Now that that's gone I'm too reluctant to try a killer I've never tried before.

I asked for this back when this forum opened. I thought it was a good incentive to have killers at different ranks. Without it why would i buy yet another killer that looks like it takes massive skill to play?

I only play the game casually so I wouldn't know, but everyone pretty much universally agrees that it's a lot harder to get to rank one as a killer than it is a survivor.

As was pointed out by one of the devs somewhere (and by many people as well) rank isn't really a measure of skill, it's a measure of how much time you played in the past month. It's easy to get to rank 1 if you play enough, and have more fairly good games with at least 1 pip (or heck, even a black pip) than really bad ones where you depipped.

“Rank doesn’t matter” is more about saying you’re rank 1 means nothing, as you can be not good, average, good, great, or amazing at rank 1. Typically Rank 1s will be better than purple and below

Yes, but it's still not hard to reach rank 1 if you play the game enough, is what I'm saying. But I guess it goes to say that practice makes perfect, and playing enough to pip enough to reach rank 1 should make you a better player in the long run.

In all honesty, the matchmaker was like that for 10 months before MMR was tried, and therefore long before crossplay. They went back to the rank-as-matchmaker system, so here we are again.
Look, it's fairly obvious at this point that BHVR doesn't know how to make a "fair" matchmaker for an asymmetrical game. I don't even have hopes for the next version of MMR when they kick it live at some point.

Many of us in the community knew that matchmaking was a mess, and while it does suck that the MMR is currently turned off, I thought surely having access to every console plus PC would be able to streamline the ranks more. Apparently I was wrong.

That was why the word fair was in quotes. No matchmaker is fair 100% of the time. Not even MMR systems. The issue with BHVR is that far, far too many times their matchmaker isn't even close.

for me games were like this with MMR, most of the time even worse. Had to play with team mates and killer who just started to play dbd (0-10 hours). Games are better now (for me at least), but definitely not fair all the time :(

I have said this some time ago, but I don't mind repeating it.
To me, ranks definitely showcase your skill level. BUT, there are 2 major problems with the system:
- 20 ranks are not enough. We would need like 10 or 20 more.
- The matchmaking system is completely broken. With or without MMR. We can't expect ranks to faithfully showcase the ability level of a player, if brown/yellow killers are paired with red rank survivors. From my own experience climbing as killer, since I was rank 20, I usually got paired with red rank survivors. I was playing like...80% of my time against red ranks no matter my rank. Hence, making my climbing much harder comparing it to a survivor. If killers are getting high level survivors, obviously, this means that high rank survivors are getting low rank killers, hence, climbing up as survivor is easier (not easy, but easier).
And of course, this hasn't been my experience alone, it's widespread between killers.
Why this trend happens? I don't really know, maybe it's due to the lack of low-medium rank survivors so killers usually get high rank survivors? I don't know.
But from my own view, If we had more ranks, and you got paired with people at least in your same color, ranks would matter a lot more.

no, no, just no, that's false, ranks obviously give some indication of skill, saying it doesn't means you are just as clueless as the devs, you are probably parroting their words without even knowing what you are saying.
a red rank is clearly better at the game than a green rank, very clearly, the devs mean it in a sense of boosting and vet players not playing for awhile, in thos instances the ranks are somewhat meaningless and no, you cannot get to rank 1 if you play enough, if you're a immersed blendette you will NEVER get to rank 1, no matter how much you play, i'm a red rank surv, i don't want to play with green and yellow ranks, they suck in comparision to me, tbh same with purples, they seem to do poorly too, so stop parroting random words you have no idea what you're talking about

The MMR definitely needed tweaking, and I know it wasn't suitable for everyone. But for me it worked out rather well since I play the game casually, and it made tackling a new killer much better then it did when there was no MMR.

So long as rank reset exists, no one will ever be a "true" anything since all anyone has to do is stop playing for a few months and be reset to a rank that doesn't accurately represent your skill.
I just hope the devs don't give up on the MMR because using a matchmaking system based on ranks is the wrong way to go about this. I thought having access to PS4, switch, Xbox, and PC would help to smooth things out a little bit rank-wise, but apparently I was wrong.

The matches I got under the new MMR were fine personally. But I get why it’s temporarily turned off, it was putting top streamers against full teams of brand new survivors. My guess is something was wrong with how they did their initial seeding and/or something was off with specific killers that impacted their ratings. (Tofu said on a stream for instance that his Billy matches were lopsided but other killers were more reasonable.) Hopefully they’ll have the new MMR glitch repaired soon, the rank system is silly.

I hope it's fixed soon too. Every time when I think about firing up a killer match, I'm reminded of how uneven the matches have been for me personally when playing killer, and it makes me turn to survivor instead.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I also consider 1 month rank resets a bad practice. It's a really short time.
Devs don't need to think so much on planning this, just copy the system League of Legends has. And they are actually doing it.
In league of legends they have ranks and hidden MMRs. That's all.
So they are doing here the same, and that's the right way to act.
Even tho, ranks still matter.

Last night I was playing with some friends, and we went up against quite a few newer players. We did have a level 13 in our lobby of survivors, but the rest of us were between the ranks of 5 - 8, so getting a rank 17 killer more than once was ridiculous, especially considering that cross-play is live.
I know it's easy to look at what other games are doing and simply say "copy that", but DBD is unlike any other multiplayer game out there. I don't know what would work best, but matching games based on ranks isn't the way to do it.

I'm not parroting anything.. I'm a red rank survivor, and I only reach it because I play a lot, not because I'm a great survivor. I'm no potato, but not great either. So yes, while it takes skill to remain rank 1 consistently, skill isn't all there is to it, when you need to just do not too badly to gain a single pip and move closer to ranking up. It's easier to rank up than to rank down. You really need to either do super badly or die super early to not at least black pip.
