I wish I knew if my teammates were playing self care so I can avoid the lobby
I normally solo queue as a survivor or I play with one of my friends. The games that I don't escape are normally with teammates who play self care. I hate that perk so much. The only advantage is that you can heal yourself, but just use a medkit? A yellow medkit with bandages and medical scissors is fine because you get 2 heals out of it, but you should only use it if you can't find a teammate to heal you.
What I also find with self care players is that they prioritise healing them self over anything else in the match and so it wastes time and limits how much gets done. Even worse, people really self care against sloppy butcher, thanatophobia and killer with power add-ons that give you the mangled effect. I wish the devs limited it so you could only use self care a limited number of times, like 2 times, because it wastes too much time.
There are so many times when me and a random person are left in a game, the last gen is close, the killer comes over and downs me, and the random is just self caring instead of going for the gen. I think when everyone started out on dbd they thought self care was good, and only the good players realise that self care actually does more bad than good.
May I also include that the other day I had a teammate who was playing decisive strike, self care, inner strength and adrenaline 😂

I 100% agree, its a selfish perk that discourages team play.

Self care is a very good perk when it's used correctly. If someone is misusing it to heal in a corner vs sloppy, thana legion then it's not fault of SC but the person using it. It's as gen efficient as someone healing you (2 people healing 16s = 32s overall versus 1 person healing 32s) and you still spare the time of finding a teammate.

Yup. Gotta love it when you're doing a gen with empathy and you see three people across the map rubbing themselves for half a minute only to do it again once you're hanging on a hook and first phase slowly turns to second phase.
When I play killer I love it when survivors bring self care though. Makes my job so much easier.
1 -
Yeah if I see two people self caring in corners at the same time while I'm on hook, I'm out of that b*tch lol
2 -
Self care and inner strength? 🙄 hot damn
2 -
What? Are YOU going to heal me from across the map then?
I like being healthy, as in two health states. I also hate being limited on a majority of resources, so med-kits and Inner Strength are out. People don't always heal off hook and sometimes the killer comes back immediately.
As for that last guy healing up, that'll be because they are getting ready for the hatch race, since you still have a number of generators to complete and you're down to the last 2 survivors.

I always say, self care is not the worst perk but it promotes players making really bad decisions.
There is time to self care but some just wait so much time.
I remember running sloppy, nurses and thana at the same time as ghostface, it was so much fun seeing survivors self care for a long time just for me to hit them again and make them waste like 40 seconds of not doing anything just playing their air guitar.

In my exp 50% people saying "self-care" they're actually using a medkit, which isn't that bad.
But i get what the OP means. Once i unhooked a surv with We will make it. He run away to heal in front of my face against Thana and Sloppy.
To correspondend the meme i DCt in front of him (which is even worse, i know).

This is why I think SC should be base kit. It would help solo a lot by opening up a perk slot for something like Botany or We'll Make It. It won't do much for SWF since they usually know how to play as efficiently as possible and wouldn't rely on SC much anyways.

If I see multiple team mates Self Caring in stupid situations I just let go on hook to be honest. People can defend the perk but everyone knows that people who complain about Self Care aren’t complaining about the people who use it well, but the people who use it to screw over their team, which is approximately 95% of SC users.

The perk isn't bad.
The player using the perk at the wrong time or inappropriately in certain scenarios is bad.
Killer has Sloppy Butcher or Nurse's Calling? Probably better to use a medkit or another Survivor to reduce the time required unless absolutely necessary.
Someone on Hook and Self Care would make them hit the next stage? go unhook them first.
A Generator is close to being finished? Probably worth the risk staying Injured to complete it before the Killer passes by.
It's Legion. (This one is pretty self explanatory)
It's Plague. (Also self explanatory)

It would be nice to be able to see what teammates are bringing. Not to dodge but just have that info that swf get anyway.
1 -
Or at least let the people using perks they want ? Nobody has to be like you
0 -
I would like that, i could dodge people with no mither then. Thats the games i usual die in, because most people who bring it don´t know how to play.
Also, should i start dodging survivors with flashlights? a lot of the time they just run behind the killer to then get no flashlight save anyway, so you are down one player if they waste their time like that.
The thing i find far the worst are survivors that are allergic to gens, because they are "boring", leading to games where a) at least one player isn't doing gens no matter what, or b) i am doing 3+ gens all alone, while the rest hooktrades, and i end up with the least bp for actually doing the objective.
But maybe i make a new thread about that topic.

There are several things to consider:
1) The player being the issue, not the perk. The perk works anytime with varying degrees of efficiency, but the player must decide whether or not it's suitable to use self-care in the current situation.
2) It's the only free self-healing perk. Players strongly recommend Inner Strength, but unless you buy Nancy or the Shrine of Secrets is in your favour, you are not getting that perk without a cost.
3) Self-caring has the same fixed time/player cost as getting healed from other Survivors. It's mathematically better to sometimes heal on the spot and not waste time looking for other team-mates.
However, despite your negative attitude to Self-care, being able to see your ally's Perks in the lobby would help close the Solo/SWF gap and enable more coordinated plays. Perk balance would be better and easier to adjust if the above was applied.

I love self care dead hard combo, you get healed to 99%, so killer will more likely chase you, you can use dead hard earlier, or just rub yourself just before the killer hits you, so you have a free sprint burst. Not to mention that it can combo nicely with 32 charges medkit (lower usage of charges) and bottled time... didnt tested it with syringe properly, but in a few games results were very good.

If you want to see your teammates' perks then you can play dbd mobile. PCs and consoles are not worthy of QoL. /kappa
Regarding self-care, you just made an overgeneralization. It's a decent perk that can simply be used wrong.
1 -
Yeah but that's all I seem to run into, people who self care at bad times. But quite honestly I can't think of a good time for self care other than when you're nearly healed but your heal got interrupted so you can finish the heal, or if you're the last person alive near the exit gate and need to take a hit to get out. But the majority of players are so reliant on it, and the people at the end of the game who have done the least in the match typically have self care in their build.

Playing their air guitar 😂 I always say they're tickling their bellies

i use it as im a solo and i dont trust my teamates
0 -
I use it solo because time and time again my teammates have shown that they aren't trustworthy.

Have fun, it is nearly used as much as DS (around 40-45% of players in each game).
0 -
I loathe self care players!! 90% of the time because as u mentioned and thana they self care on sloppy in the corner of a map, and just leave u chillin on the hook, however self care i've only really seen 10% use it correctly, imo it's just as situational as DS..
1. Endgame self care if the others have opened the gate, got u off a hook and ditched without healin u, use it then to get urself out if possible.
2. A heal might get interrupted, and the one healin u scarpers like a deer at a slight heartbeat... U'll be able to do the rest urself

That's why I had to vent about it because it's so common. When I solo queue there is always at least 1 person that has self care. I encounter way too many people who self care instead of doing a generator or getting an unhook and it just favours the killer.

ikr its not the perk thatd bad its jerks that use it are bad like i died today on my second hool to a doc whos chasing somone else persons in front of me selfcaring while docs slugged the other person
0 -
Yeah I mentioned those 2 reasons a bit further up in the comments, and those are most definitely the only reasons to use it. I'm rarely surprised to see when someone is playing self care, normally it's an explanation 😂
0 -
But then what I find is that the people who prioritise healing themself or getting an unhook are too scared to be injured
0 -
i dont mind taking a beating heck oftern ive taken a hit to distract a killer and then escaped and used sc to heal up and pull aggro
0 -
Oh did u, sorry, i just read the main message. I've had so many solo games a person will actually be near me self carin, I'm on the hook, the killer isn't near, I've went second phase.... instead of just comin to get me, and it would be quicker to heal each other up, but nope.... ngl when i started dbd i used self care, but i would always save ma team mate.
There's other perks ppl could use to get a heal say if they don't have a medkit, bond, inner strength.. i don't blame the perk, i blame ppl makin bad choices on how it's used as do u.
Ppl might not have Nancy so that'll be inner strength out the question for them, but surely everyone would have Dwights perks as teachables by now (bond)
0 -
Yeah, when I started out on dbd I also used self care, when I got to purple ranks I couldn't reach red ranks and it was because of self care wasting too much time for me in games. Inner strength or medkits are better, I prefer medkits, and normally I never have to heal myself more than twice in a game so the limited charges don't bother me. Also the time it takes to self care is the equivalent of half a generator so I just play iron will, and do a generator until I see a teammate.
0 -
Self Care is good if u have a medkit or botany with botany is not bad at all you get healed even faster than with a friend (22.5 secs aprox) since it will take several seconds to find a teammate (unless you can find a teamamte in less than 5 seconds wich most likely wont happen) i like to be healthy but i never run self care alone always with a medkit or id rather just not run self care and only a medkit when i play with friends i do use self care when i play alone tho wich almsot never happens anyway, you ccant rely on your boosted fellow teammates after all but yes is an insanely bad perk by its own it rewards the killer so much and so little to survivors especailly with sloppy 40 seconds wasted.
0 -
The problem is that most self care user always heal when they get the chance even if jumping on a gen would be a better choice.
0 -
Yeah I agree, by having the perk in your build you have the ability to be fully healed which is why they heal at any given opportunity instead of going on a gen.
0 -
Aye it does waste alot of time, and as u say by the time u self care it's equivalent to half a gen, i get ppl make mistakes and use it wrong, but in red ranks doin that is a piss take, ppl self carin next to each other instead of healin each other, but is what it is, i run bonds or inner strength if i've swallowed all of medkits.
Aye iron will is so underrated, very good perk to run.

Given survivor que times I dont think more reasons to lobby dodge are a good idea. Play in SWF. That eliminates most annoyances.
0 -
Even if "those" players weren't using self care, you would still hate them. Bad players are bad no matter what perks they are running.
Med kits might be better, but if they run them at the wrong time it is still just as bad as self care.
0 -
People always try to justify Self-Care when there's all these Altruistic perks that can provide time or strategic advantages that I and other survivors can never use because randoms love to either run for 30 seconds before they let you heal them, or just self-care and prevent the heal altogether. This is why we hate you.

Ughh! Selfish-Care :P
“May I also include that the other day I had a teammate who was playing decisive strike, self care, inner strength and adrenaline 😂”
Yeah, I’ve seen that kinda silliness where they also bring in a Purple medkit with gel dressings and a anti hemorrhagic syringe! smh
My least fav, as I also mostly solo que, is the NoMitherers with their Iron Will that try and sneak around the whole match from the killer, who ironically, too often in these cases, is oni
