Freddy Frustration (power + add-on rework)

Freddy is frustrating to play against and his add-ons suck. Let's fix this.

Rope and Chain add-ons

Starting off with the hot topic. These add-ons are frustrating for Survivor and a little upsetting for Freddy.

For Survivors, the frustration with these add-ons comes from being stacked with other slowdown perks such as Thanatophobia or Dying Light. The time it takes to do objectives is extended far longer then it ever should be. It feels like you barely make any progress, only for Freddy to then reset that miniscule amount of progress with Pop Goes the Weasel. If you have ever faced this build, you would understand why so many Survivors give up against it.

Things aren't perfect for Freddy either. For anyone that doesn't know the numbers,

  • Outdoor Rope = 2%
  • Jump Rope = 4%
  • Swing Chains = 8% (2% / sleeping survivor)

the most you can get from add-ons alone is Swing Chains + Jump Rope with all 4 Survivors asleep. Even with this you only get an Action Speed slow equivalent to tier 1 Thanatopobia with all Survivors injured, which is a meager 12%. These add-ons were nerfed to the point where you need to stack them in order to get any value.

The Rope and Chain add-ons are in a very bad spot. If we nerf them even further to help Survivors, that would upset Freddy players due to their already weak numbers. If we buffed them so they are worth using without stacking slowdowns, Freddys would continue to stack them like before the nerf. I believe the best option is to completely change their effects while sticking to the theme of slowdown. This is what I've come up with so far:

Outdoor Rope

Sturdy outdoor rope, handy to tie up anything.

  • Survivors take longer to perform the Wake Up action. (From 4, 8, 12, 16 seconds to 8, 16 seconds)
Jump Rope

A long Double Dutch jump rope, stained with many years of use.

While Survivors are in the Dream World:

  • Applies a moderate(-5%) Action Speed penalty to Vaulting actions.
Swing Chains

Rusty, but sturdy chains used to securely attach a swing seat.

  • Can't think of a good slowdown for this. One of the ideas was to cause asleep survivors to be effected by Hindered, but Swing Chains + Jump Rope would just return to being a frustrating combo again.


Sleep Cycles

Survivors go to sleep way too quickly. Freddy's passive sleep effect is more oppressive than I think it was intended to be. Survivors often avoid waking up because it's seen as a waste of time, and I don't think they are entirely incorrect. While being awake is the best way to counter Freddy, it doesn't last very long. Although Alarm Clocks extend your awake time by 30 seconds, this is not always worth the trip. Especially if there are no generators near your clock, or you are on a large map like Red Forest.

The time it takes to fall asleep passively should always be 1:30. Alarm Clocks won't become useless, as failing a Skill Check regresses progress as well as creates a Loud Noise Notification, and Wake Up requires another Survivor which may not be available.

If this sounds bad to all you Freddy mains out there, I have a few things to add. Survivors will still fall asleep immediately when hit, that shouldn't change. I have also reworked these add-ons because Haemorrhage sucks.

Cat Block

  • Slightly(-10 seconds) decreases the time it takes for Survivors to fall asleep.
"Z" Block

A deeply scratched and burnt wooden block which's only recognisable feature is the letter "Z".

  • Moderately(-20 seconds) decreases the time it takes for Survivors to fall asleep.


Shirt and Dress add-ons

Wool Shirt, Green Dress, and Blue Dress increase the regression penalty when failing a Skill Check.

  1. Failing a Skill Check wakes them up, which means these only work once
  2. Good Survivors won't fail Skill Checks
  3. Exist to counter purposefully failing Skill Checks to wake up, which most Survivors don't even do

If you want to fix these issues you can pair them with an Ultra Rare, but...

Red Paint Brush
  • Survivors can see you are using this.
  • Good Survivors still won't fail Skill Checks
Black Box
  • Can attempt to screw over 1 single Survivor
  • Hopefully they aren't good at Skill Checks

These add-ons' reliance on the Survivors failing Skill Checks, coupled with the fact that they only work on Survivors who are asleep, means that these are not worth using outside of a Difficult Skill Checks build. Not entirely sure if these should be changed, because some people enjoy using those kinds of builds. Outside of this the add-ons are garbage.


Extra Stuff

Wool Shirt and Garden Rake are the only add-ons in their families that don't have aura reveal. They are commons though, so I'm not sure if they should have it. If they did it would probably be 2 seconds for both.

Kid's Drawing is terrible, but every Killer needs an add-on like this it seems.

Midwich doesn't have a single empty pallet location for use with Dream Pallets. Just another reason why it's the worst map in terms of gameplay.
