How to use a key and not seem toxic?
I have so many keys... I just want to use them without becoming an easy target, because I guess a lot of people hate when survivors bring one? What I usually do is use it so I can see my teammates and stay near them in case I get injured, but I want to make sure I’m not ruining the experience for any killers. Also, is it best to wait until there are a few sacrifices to leave? I usually wait until a gate is open or if me and one other teammate are the last ones.

There’s not much someone can do to not look toxic when they bring a key, as the sight of it in lobby will make them a target for the Killer 80% of the time.
I guess you can wait until the Killer gets a reasonable amount of hooks and/or sacrifices? I’ve seen people do that, or even complete all gens and open the gates, before they open hatch.
In SWF, I usually leave the key in a chest to avoid being a target, as well as to avoid Franklin’s Demise, if the Killer brings it.
But then again, who says the Killer themselves won’t bring a Mori when they see a key in lobby?
This probably isn’t the answer you’re looking for, but it all just depends on the situation.

Just use the key - it is not toxic?
Is using noed toxic? No
Is using DS toxic? No
The only ######### in this game that is toxic is acting like a dick during the match, or the post game chat. Using something in the game cannot be toxic.

That's good to know! I just wish it wasn't like this lol. I used it to open the hatch once and I felt so bad about it, but at the end of the day a competitive game is just that-- competitive. I'll take your advice (especially since I prefer more useful items, but before I prestige again I want to use up what I have) and start switching them out after looting chests! Thank you :)

Don't worry about it, there's nothing toxic about using keys or moris. The devs have them in the game because they hope that people will use them.

I agree. I have friends who find perks to be toxic and I don't get it, because it's all part of the game to be strategic and use perks to your advantage. It's ok to get upset, too, but to text people about it is so rude to me. I would rather just take the loss and move on, but still wish them a good game. One time I had killer wait for me to open the gate and then down me to use a mori. I wasn't even mad about it, I laughed and went on to the next game lol :)

I actually don’t take in a key with the intention of using it on the hatch (because I usually never find it anyway).
I usually use it as a replacement for bond with either of the tokens or the unique wedding ring.

Very true, haha! I guess I'll take everyone's advice so far and just use it fairly. And I agree that it's actually not as terrible to get mori'd or have survivors leave early through hatch. At least not anymore, it was frustrating in the beginning before I even knew how to repair a gen properly lmao :)!

Finding the hatch isn't my go to either, since I'm more likely to just run into the killer lol. Also, I've only been playing for about 5 months, what is 'bond?' Maybe I should level up the character with said perk and use it instead of taking a key!

Bond is one Dwight’s perks. It reveals the auras of any survivors within a 36m range of you at all times, unless afflicted with aura blindness. It’s very useful.
There are tokens for the key, and the unique wedding ring for keys that let you track survivor auras as well.
