Thoughts on a large ship map?
Imagine a future update bringing us a Killer (and a Survivor) with a sailor/navy background, along with a realm that literally takes place on a large ship surrounded by the Entity's ocean with infinite depths to the water. Half of the ship would be out in the open, the other half would be an indoors area roughly as big as the house in Thompson House. It would also be possible to go below the ground a level, which connects both indoors and outdoors areas with hallways and fun loops. Of course, it wouldn't be an easy thing to make, and something tells me many Killers wouldn't like the map the way I described it because of so many areas being available, but it would look awesome nonetheless. Could be roughly as big as The Game, but wider.
The current rift has a naval-based Doctor skin, which would be really fitting on a map like that. I personally think it would be really cool and it could also be the map with the only unique exit of escaping by motorboat. You exit the same way as before, through two large gates which could be in the area below to avoid confusion, leading to a total of 8 motorboats (4 per exit) that the Survivor takes upon successfully escaping, not letting the Killer further beyond the area, as we already know it.
Would a map like this be fun and possible to make? What are your thoughts?

ARRRR i like ships, but not in DbD. Indoor = yikes.

An interesting idea but what about back water swamp

Okay as much as I disliked the game, if they managed to combine The Dark Pictures and DBD (like, Little Hope is releasing and holy ######### it looks awesome) I can't tell you how ######### stoked I would be!

If executed well then sure itd be great, but I feel it would be very easy for it to be a map with either too strong loops or too many dead zones. I really like the unique escape idea though.

I could see it work! If it's a pirate ship, the top deck might be like Autohaven, whilst the lower decks like The Game.
A more modern ship may work better, due to a more balanced setup: The top deck will have smaller buildings to hope in and out of, whilst lower decks will have larger rooms. It'll feel more balanced.

I really like the idea of a ship actually on water but I don't know about an entire map based on just a single ship.
I think something more like a ship graveyard with multiple different sized ships that you could run between via planks and the exit gates could connect to land on opposite sides which would be pretty neat I think.
Killer could be a Ghost Pirate or something. Either way, I like the idea but it's also about how it'd be handled. Something like this seems like it could be a really cool map or a really really bad one.

Now a ship map is a water level I can support. Think it would be a great idea.

That would be great. Maybe one ship like the one from RE7.

I think it would have to be a docked ship with a open dock area. We've seen time and time again that dbd isn't balanced for small corridors. The killer needs the opportunity to cut off a survivor which they don't have on indoors maps. Not to mention Trapper is basically a eunech right now with all the maps that directly counter him.

A ship map would be awesome but how would you go about with exit gates? What happens when a survivor walks out of the gates do they just jump in the ocean or what?
With a ship map it would be cool if there was a slight sway to the screen to represent a ship on the ocean sailing away.

Ooh, a ghost cruise ship map would be pretty sweet! There’s a few decent horror movies with that exact setting. (I think Triangle is my favorite in that genre.)

Man of Medan was actually a pretty good game, I disliked some of the characters (namely Alex) but it was solid. It just didn’t live up to the hype Until Dawn had.

I explained that. Both exit gates could be in the below indoors levels of the ship(s?), with each exit having 4 motorboats there. A map like this would obviously need a unique way the Survivors make their exit, in this case being motorboats. When in a regular map the Survivor escapes, they run off into the distance, but in this map they hop in one of the 4 motorboats and drive off immediately, The Entity not allowing the Killer to go after them, obviously.

I just wasn't the fan of "it's all hallucinations" because as soon as you figure that out everything just loses its scare. Whilst in Little Hope, at least from what I've seen, it looks legitimately supernatural and actually terrifying.

The idea is very cool, but how would the exits look like?

gentlemen... get ready... Monstrum chapter!
i can already see it before my eyes! A new chapter with 3 monsters for once! that would be awesome :D. And the map Monstrum has would work great with this guys idea!

A ship doesn't necessarily have to be completely indoors. I think it's a cool idea and opportunity for a map that could create both the vibe of indoor maps which is a bit more chaotic and the outdoor maps which are more open. You could also create more unique loops with it too.

I thought of this with a pirate killer idea i had.
A 2 or 3 level pirate ship that had crashed into the rocks. With a rocky beach area also. No sounds in the ship but wood creaking and splashing foot steps. Maybe areas of the floor that break away when someone walks over them.
I think it would he awesome if done properly.
Outside of the map could be storming with lightning and thunder

How many decks do you envision for such a vessel?

Let me be clear to some of y'all. While pirate ships are cool and all, I was suggesting one of those very large motherships. Not necessarily with "weapons" on it and whatnot, just a very large ship with containers on it and stuff, think the cargo ship from Call of Duty 4. Okay, maybe minus the containers, to make for easier loops. But yeah, just wanted to make that clear. ^^

Understandable and I didn’t like that aspect either because nothing was really scary about Man of Medan once you found out that aspect of the game, but most people didn’t know that during their first playthrough.
I had to play the game MANY times because I got the platinum so I kinda had to enjoy it to play it through that many times.

the issue i have is map size, i feel inorder to make a ship interesting and well detailed itd mean a very big ship. navy based ships are also all very narrow corridors except a few rooms such as the dinning room etc. and if you go for a cruiser style well look at resident evil revelations, theyre damn huge... imagine pressuring that! plus poor nurse would blink in the ocean with her buggy ass haha

I would prefer a pirate ship map but a ship map would be cool

How about we cut the large part and just go with a ship? I like that.
