Unless streaming DBD is your job, it's just not worth your time.
This past weekend I played some solo survivor matches and some SWF matches. Interestingly enough, the ranks were all over the board in both the SWF matches and my own solo matches, yet I kept being paired with high ranking killers.
Now I don't play killer much anymore because my low ranking killer (13) keeps getting paired with higher ranking survivors, and playing survivor is a far less frustrating experience. After a full day of working and parenting I don't have a lot of time to play games, and as much as I want to keep playing DBD, I'm constantly met with disappointment and frustration as I no longer have faith that the matchmaking system will ever be fixed. After what I experienced this weekend, I may have to finally throw in the towel.
This is just a small sampling of games that I experienced over the course of 6 hours where the matchmaking was completely imbalanced.

I go against rainbow ranks all the time and I'm a rank1 killer. When they can't match you with a killer of similar rank, the matchmaking will start pairing you up with killers of different ranks. On the flip side, if it's taking you a long time to get a match as killer, you will probably be paired with different ranks as well.

And I can understand that. I can accept a loss just as easily as I can accept a win, but when matchmaking is so imbalanced that I can barely get anything done, that's when I have a problem. Supposedly the MMR was to fix this, but I guess not. I know they deactivated it, but there's no telling when or if it'll be back.

I mean, it's not really your place to decide whether or not it's worth someone else's time. A lot of people have a lot of fun with dbd...ik it's hard to believe but it's true.

Umm, the only thing you should be complaining about with these screenshots are the yellow survivors,
You are within 6 ranks of the killer, so it's actually working as intended. If you can't stand being high rank, I recommend focusing your games on the archives, because it's quite fun to play that way, and for the most part, you'll rank down slowly

Clearly you won't but other people enjoy it. They see it as a form of entertainment and subsequently will pay to support the entertainer. If that's not your thing, congrats, because it's entirely optional.
As someone who didnt, and still doesn't, own a ps4 I had to watch people play Until Dawn. Only recently did I cave, buy a controller, and use a free trial of PSNow to play it (by the way, amazing experience, would recommend). If I was able to, I would've gladly dropped a sub or a couple bits to people on Twitch who were playing it through because it was some pretty class entertainment.

But going back to the whole paying to watch thing, I can't get my mind around why people pay so much money to watch so called ' content creators' I've saw the odd video on YouTube that's funny but I wouldn't pay £4 to subscribe to someone to sit on their game all day. All the younger generations are going to think this is the way forward. Go out, learn a skill to make money that benefits the world, be an electrician, a hospital worker, a shop worker. Sitting playing a game with brain dead followers is not how to build a life. It's like Jersey shore, big brother etc.

Becoming a Streamer or content creator is no different for the "younger generation" than becoming an author or actor who had dreams of making it big was for previous generations. Or the sports star. Some will make it, many won't and they'll eventually find other work.
I've been an author for close to 30 years. I also spent 14 years in the gaming industry. I'd also written for Marvel and worked on Highlander: The Series in the 90s. I had extended family members who talked like you: I would never make it, I'm throwing my life away, et cetera.
Fast-forward, and not only have I been best-selling, but I've had my I.P. licensed by others. I've made a nice living in fiction and games. If I had listened to those extended family members, I'd probably be making a lot less money, working for someone else and making them rich, and wouldn't be able to work from home where I raised my kids, not some daycare provider.
There's no harm in them pursuing their dream. If they happen to be the small percentage that make it, good for them. If they don't, life will force them into other jobs. If they choose to not get other work and make a living for themselves . . . well, unfortunately there are enough of those people in the world already, and it has zero to do with Twitch or YouTube.

Not gonna lie, DBD is not the right game if you don't have a few hours to spend now and then AND are totally happy never winning. Even ignoring the matchmaking and wierdly high skill cap, the grind is so real that I feel like the physical edition comes with a free whetstone.

Thusfar every young person I know, including myself, who streams has the attitude of "This'll be amazing if it works but education is more importnat." I passed my GCSEs with no grades lower than an 8, many with a 9, and currently in college I'm studying Law, Economics, and RS, aiming to be either a Lawyer or Accountant (yeah, you can get into degree-level apprentiships with a 6 or more in maths at GCSE). From what I've heard, they're both pretty respectable careers, and as much as I'd love to become a full-time streamer, if it remains a hobby then I'm not going to complain.
You sound like someone who loves to use minion memes on Facebook, ngl.
Also, I love how you insult people who enjoy paying people for their time by calling them braindead. Damn, you sound really fun at parties!

I say that as a 41 year old, btw. *We* are no longer the arbiter of what is and isn't a valid profession. You can say "go get a skill!" But.... No. These kids don't need to. They are doing what they want how they want when they want.
Us old people would have killed for that. Unless you're one of those people that have to be told what to do. Then sure, go get a job. But I'm not and I fail to see a reason why this isnt a legit profession. Just because you don't like something doesn't make it invalid. Just because something doesn't contribute to society in the way you think it should, doesn't mean it doesn't have merit or worth.
Go get back on your rocking chair grandpa, cuz this isn't our world anymore, it's the kids. We're just living in it.

I did a lot of editing on the scripts and was part of the team that had to keep Duncan's timeline straight for flashbacks, especially in the later seasons when we started showing the dates for them. My first episode with them was in Season 3, Take Back the Night, which also introduced the female Celtic immortal: Ceirdwyn.
My 20-year-old daughter is named for her.
I loved the show, and worked on Seasons 3-5. It's a shame that Stan Kirsch (Ritchie Ryan) committed suicide this past January.

That's really cool man. I'm a fantasy novelist (type Heartbound in author search on Amazon) and I'm completely failing in advertising. When COVID stops being a thing I'm going to try to do book readings and all that jazz. It's not easy being a creative type.

Lol it's okay. We're all meant for different things. I spent from ages 20 to 28 I think just trying to hammer out the storyline and how to do all the things. It's a whole pie. But if you are doing something, believe in me who believes in you.

Wouldn't quite say grampa. Kids addicted to YouTube and watching people play games all day seems odd. Paying people on twitch is even more strange.
But I don't use any sort of social media as I think it effects peoples mental health severely, so could say I'm out of touch

Yeah I'm learning this the hard way. I wish the grind wasn't so bad, but the matchmaking is what makes this game almost unplayable for someone in my shoes.
I can either grin and bare it or move on, and I may have to move on.

Rank isn't used in matchmaking anymore. The current system isn't anything to brag about either, but rank isn't relevant with matchmaking anymore.
Perhaps take a break? I find that the game loses its enjoyability when I play it too much.
I wish there were way more asymmetrical horror games out there, but some time away has brought back that 'magic' of playing this game after a while.

Nope! Not at all. In fact I loved it, knowing what would happen, because I could use all the lore and hints at the start and link it together as I found it. Furthermore, I got the joys of knowing how to save people, so when I wanted to let everyone survive I could. It was still exillerating, because I could still fail the QTEs and the Don't Move Events and everything. It was fantastic!!

@Kilmeran I just want to tell you I resonate completely with your message, you're my hero, and I hope I can get the courage to be like you one day. I let writing turn into a 'hobby' and graduated business school because it was 'the smart thing to do'.
Now, I think the smart thing to do is try to be the best, happiest version of yourself, and you can't do that if you pass on your dreams to adopt one that's socially acceptable. Well thanks, I appreciate that. I was fortunate that I had a father who completely supported me being a writer, and even in my late teenage years made sure I never gave up when the rejection slips came pouring in. I realized I wanted to write at age 12, after reading the Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny. I was also lucky enough to become his friend from 1991 until he died in 1995, and he taught me a lot about the business back then.
Of course, 14 years in the gaming industry and then returning to fiction a couple years ago, that business had changed a lot. Now there was Amazon, traditional publishers were putting out fewer books per year, and many literary agencies now had departments within them dedicated to marketing their clients to Hollywood.
But the thing is to just write. Don't worry if it will sell, or if it's commercial enough. Especially in this Amazon driven world. Just write. I've sold through the traditional publishers, and I've sold on my own through Amazon (what is called a Hybrid Author). The thing with Amazon is to save up some money to produce your first two to three books. And you don't need a ton of money, either.
Why?
Well, for one, commission a unique cover. Your cover will be the first eye-catcher to people browsing. But, the cover does not get the sale. The number one driver of sales for Amazon books is your book's description. Learn how to write copy that hooks people, interests them, and makes them want to see more.
Also learn how to use Amazon's keywords both on your backend and within your description. You have seven lines on the backend that can each contain 50 characters, including spaces. So, for example, if you do something like this on two lines:
metaphysical astral projection occult ESP psychic
romance cyberpunk techno thriller mystery suspense
Your book has the potential to appear in any customer searches that include those words. Such as Occult Thriller, or Occult Mystery Romance, and so forth.
Also note that Amazon also searches your book description and book title for category keywords. That means you have a lot of keyword options to get your book found. And try to never use a keyword more than once. Repeating it doesn't add any additional weight to your book being included in search results.
Obviously, use keywords that somehow relate to what you wrote, or it's a waste.
Another good thing to use, and again it costs a little bit of money, is to make sure you Sponsor your book under books by other authors. Ever notice when you look at books on Amazon, one of the category lines of book covers you'll see is "Sponsored?" That means the author chose that book to sponsor their own book under. You find books in your main genre that are popular, and have your book Sponsored for that page using the Amazon tool. Now, your book appears there. You set your own budget and per appearance rate, and the more you can budget the more impressions you can get.
Does that all mean you'll make money. Nopety-nope-nope. I've had books that sold damned well, books that just sold okay, and books that . . . well . . . for the time it took to write them, commission covers, pay for editing, and all those man-hours, I would have made more working at WalMart for those same hours than I did on that book. It happens.
Same with reviews. You will always get some 1-star to 3-star reviews, especially at Amazon. It's just the nature of the business. Never let it bother you. You will never, ever please everyone.

They implemented mmr it didnt work well due to not having gathered much data, so they disabled it again, its probably coming back but for now it's back to rank based.

Well everyone is different I suppose. Did you play man of medan? I played every play through blind to get the different endings. If I had watched videos or let's plays I wouldn't of bought it. Maybe I was a bit selfish in my original statement then. So if offence was caused then I apologise

Nah man of Medan I skipped also because of a lack of funds, so I watched people play through it. Was still very entertaining (thanks Mark) but imo was a worse game than UD so I didn't get it myself.
