Highlights from today's dev Q&A 2020-09-10
Highlights from the dev Q&A this afternoon for the curious:
Bugs
- Fix is coming out next Tuesday for frame and stuttering issues.
- Looking into bugs including killer heartbeats, Switch and some others
- Discussion of what changed with Blight from the PTB version
Questions
- Characters are getting new textures and improved animations as part of the graphical updates.
- There are two teams working simultaneously on both new content and reviewing and reworking old content (so no "old content only" chapter will happen, it will be new plus changes to old each time.)
- There's no date or anything currently to bring Mobile style bots to other platforms but it's definitely possible.
- Killers are receiving new animations as needed, particularly old killer, for general actions. (Not whole new moris but things like moves and attacks and kicking gens.)
- There are some killer changes planned, in particular they are not quite done with Clown yet....
- Unique voices for legendary skins is something they would like to do but aren't planned yet.
- Almost all maps are eventually getting reworked as part of the graphical update.
- Prestige rewards still a little ways off, nothing to share quite yet....
- A bunch of perk adjustments are planned for the next chapter. In general the mid-chapter patches will have more perk changes than the new chapter patches but they are actively working on perks.
- It is a "big, fat maybe" if a new type of item (other than flashlights, maps, keys, etc) will be added to the game. It's possible to add one but nothing firm if or when it could happen
- Pyramid Head is under balance review. In general they have a relative new formal process in place for reviewing and rebalancing new killers after they are released and Pyramid Head is the first to benefit from it. The results of that review and possible changes should be coming "soon (TM)"
- The new MMR system for matchmaking is definitely coming back sooner rather than later. It's still running behind the scenes collecting additional data and we'll see announcements about it eventually.
- The 1 million Bloodpoint Cap is in place to encourage players to actually spend their points on rewards and then play the game to get more points rather than just sit on a massive amount of points and spending it all at once when a new character comes out. (The fact that it made hackers easier to spot was a side benefit.)
- If you've ever wondered why, for example, you see an ultra-rare Red Mori more than a rare Green Mori in your bloodwebs, it's because the web picks the rarity of a slot first then chooses randomly between all objects of that rarity and there are far more Green objects then Red ones. So even though Red objects as a whole show up less frequently, when it rolls for a Red object there is a decent chance it's a Red Mori because there aren't as many other possible outcomes. But when it rolls a Green Mori there are many, many more green objects it could possible be so the odds of it specifically being the Mori out of those is small. (The same for any particular red item coming up more than any particular green item).
- Hatch placement offerings are not secret because they want both sides to be able to make use of the information on where the hatch will be so players can play around it more.
- Graphics and map updates are expected to come out each midchapter and chapter release (barring unforseen issues)
- Experience offerings like they have on Mobile are not going to be added to systems because they don't fit the progression systems there.
- They plan to tweak the number of add-ons for Huntress to be on par with the standard ratios (two Ultra Rares, four Rares, etc). Not something that will be soon though.
- They would like to be able to bring PTB to consoles but it's very complicated so not something that is currently planned.
- The Never Stop Slashing Legion mask will unfortunately not change facial expressions. They really wanted to do it but it couldn't be done due to technical limitations. 😔
- Both Moris and Keys are being changed at an undisclosed point in the future. There is no date yet but there are plans for both items. (And they can't confirm whether or not the changes will be simultaneous or not.)
- There are no immediate plans to remove Bloodlust but they are keeping an open mind on it.
- They do cosmetic sets in part because it gives the art team more flexibility when designing assets since they don't have to worry as much about whether or not a particular piece is going to be mix-and-matched with other pieces.
- All the graphical updates will take at least a year to entirely complete, it's a large project being done in small parts
- An update on hit validation should be coming soon. This will help with "close calls" on hits.
- They are leaving off the ability to switch killers in the campfire lobby since MMR is something that is coming back soon and they don't want to switch it on and off unless necessary since it would require client updates to change (as opposed to MMR which is something that can be turned back on in the backend.) Also keeping people from swapping killers is helping with the ongoing MMR testing.
- Endgame chat for console is not planned for the moment due to technical complexities involving console chat and keyboards, etc. Same for keyboard and mouse on console.
- Cross progression has a lot coming soon. Basically if you have the same character on two platforms it will essentially give you the highest level version of the character that you have both characters and if you have a character on one system it will copy to the other system.
- Cross-play only between consoles is not something that is planned
- Due to technical issues involving console requirements there are no plans to replace the globe icon with something that tells you which specific console the player is on.
Comments

Obviously its time they add some new Ultra Rare offerings.
Some ideas:
-Bloody Buffet (3x Bloodpoints for all in the trial)
-An offering that guarantees a survivor spawns closest to the killer as possible
-An offering that has the exit gates spawn close together

thank you very much for this! With my work schedule I couldn't watch but i really wanted to.
7 -
Dont know how i feel about people wanting to emoving bloodlust, but im hyped for clown. and i think Keys and Moris need reworks asap.
10 -
Thanks for this. I gave up watching the streams since they spend most of them talking about lore and fan art....
15 -
RIP Pyramid Head and Huntress then.
We all know what their addon reworks and "slight" nerfs are like.
Huntress will have literally nothing useful and PH will be f tier after the changes :|

To go into the Bloodlust thing, I believe the argument is that Bloodlust was originally introduced as a workaround for maps that had literally infinite loops. With an infinite loop a killer literally couldn't catch a survivor there without something like Bloodlust to help them catch up. Since the devs have worked to eliminate actual infinite loops from the game there's now an argument that Bloodlust is no longer needed and might actually be causing some negative issues of its own. (I'm not one of those people, FYI, I'm just relaying what I seem to recall reading from posts about it.) The devs though feel that Bloodlust at this point is fairly well ingrained in the game and is beneficial to newer killers so are reluctant to remove it without a solid reason to do so. But they haven't completed discarded the idea and do discuss it behind the scenes so revamping or removing Bloodlust is not entirely out of the picture.

Hmm, an offering that affects the gate spawns sounds interesting. 🙂
What about an offering that shows you how many dull totems are in play on the HUD? It could be useful for both killers and survivors who have builds that are affected by dull totems. (I'm not thinking it has to be an Ultra Rare, just in general as a game mechanic.)
1 -
yeah idk, but thanks for this post homie!
2 -
FYI They were talking about adding a new red add-on to Huntress so she would have two of them, not about "nerfing" her.
7 -
I’m both excited and nervous about upcoming Clown updates. I most definitely will be angry about a rework, or dramatic change from his current power.
2 -
im assuming your a clown main lol, but i think the effects need to stack kinda like doc
2 -
If it helps they're definitely not talking about nerfing him, that's for sure! They said the buff to his throwing speed that he got in the Silent Hill patch was a first step, basically, so I'm guessing they're looking at maybe a secondary power or something for him. Maybe something like letting him drink from bottles to buff himself up? Who knows?

Exit gates spawning close together? Really? They should never be close together. Once they are powered all the killer has to do is patrol two spots, he shouldn't be able to stand in one place and cover both doors. They already get to see the aura of the doors so they know right where to go.
6 -
I mean as close together as possible. For an Ultra rare, that'd be fine. We need more Ultra Rares so we have less Mori's.
2 -
So they are not going to change any of her other add-ons in any way?
0 -
What is there to play around when knowing where the damn hatch will spawn? All it means is that the killer won't have to search for the hatch. On the flipside, it also makes keys stronger which seems like the dumbest idea ever.
2 -
So much good news in this! I'm most excited for PH to get changed, for MMR and hit detection to actually get up and running, prestige rewards, and the "bunch" of perk adjustments. I'm excited for the mori and key changes too, but I really hope they don't make keys in particular useless.
Bummer about console lobby chat and not replacing the globe icons, though. I'm also not really expecting them to be able to just "fix" the frame and stuttering issues with a casual patch on Tuesday... I wish there was something more meaty in here about optimization.
Maybe with the character texture updates Quentin will finally get a face buff?
2 -
I hope prestige rewards are substantial.
1 -
I don’t know about that. Clown’s in an interesting position in that he could easily be made way too overpowered in a chase by the seemingly smallest buffs.
When used properly to force survivors to run through all of the gas, or trick them into avoiding it, Clown is incredibly oppressive and ends chases insanely fast.
2 -
I’m gonna guess that the removal of the slow during his cooldown was a testing phase. I’m guessing the devs think the same as me: Clown could accidentally become overpowered by the smallest of changes (for players using Clown properly), and they want to avoid that occurring.

So i just purchased and proceeded to P3 pyramid head and he's getting changed like 2 updates after his release.. cool.. sucker'ed me again, good on you guys
i'm sitting here trying to figure out reasons why he needs changing.. maybe if i stretch reality i can make something up
8 -
in what way though? what if we've already P3'd a character? New cosmetics automatically granted? bloodweb changes? i don't think there could be any more vagueness in their statement
1 -
Because survivors complained loud enough and disconnect against him. The same tactics they used for nurse.
7 -
You know what's sad? The ability of PH (switching between M2 and M1 in 0.5 seconds) will most likely change. I would guess from 0.5 to about 2 seconds. This will literally kill him. I am a sad PH main now.
5 -
Relax. They might review him and decide nothing needs to be changed, or just be given the slightest of tweaks.
1 -
My hope with the pyramid head change I really hope they don't nerf his power and compensate with mediocre add-ons.
6 -
Guess I better play PH as much as possible now, just in case his update ruins him.
Glad to see some more love for Clown and nerfs for Keys and Moris on the way.
Hopefully the Tuesday patch also fixes the Killer action button bug and Blight’s POV.
I take it the devs didn’t address how the Hatch offerings promote tactical disconnects? You bring the offering, your buddy then goes to the shack or main building, and then you DC. Solos can just see if the other Survivor is near the building/shack and just DC. It’s quite disappointing how the devs don’t seem to even acknowledge DCing to give Hatch. These offerings are just going to make it worse.
8 -
"Slight" you know nurse was a slight tweak right?
2 -
So was Clowns.
Just chill until there’s some actual substantive news.
5 -
I hope if they remove bloodlust, if it's only after they remove more safe pallets. I think bloodlust only really gets to be nasty when you're failing at playing around an unsafe/fair pallet as killer.
0 -
Removing iri huntress isn’t really a nerf. It’s broken af
1 -
And you know nurse is STILL the strongest killer in the game, right?
2 -
Why he needs changing? I’m a PH main and I’ve been calling for him to be nerfed. In order of importance (high to low)
1) survivors shouldn’t stay tormented after being hooked. It should be hook or cage, tactical decision. Not “hook, hook, baby mori” or “hook, cage, kill”
2) survivors should be able to rid themselves of torment or it goes away passively after X amount of time
3) reduction in range attack add ons
4) he doesn’t need a stealth add on to ride waves of torment
5) needs small penalty for faking his ability
2 -
I really hope that they don't rework him into something weird and wonky. I want his gameplay to revolve around area-denial and gas bottles but he needs something extra to give him that UNF he needs to be competitive.
1 -
I would trade all of it for just the sound. FIX THE SOUND!!! What kind of studio messed up the sound and doesn’t see that as a problem.
3 -
Personally, I think bloodlust should be toned down, maybe scrap tier 3. It should be gone in an ideal world, but that's an endgoal - as the maps gradually get better, bloodlust can be faded out, and I'd probably get rid of tier 3 as we have way less (and soon hopefully literally no) godloops.
0 -
Super excited for potential PH changes, hopefully cancelling M2 into M1 now has a cooldown of 2s instead of an inconsistent 0.5 one that doesn't even work half the time

Complete summary:
Pick one of two:
- Soon, but not really THAT soon.
OR
- That sounds good but it's not on our radar.
Q&A over.
8 -
Yeah when she does not bug out that might be true otherwise you are a killer without a power. They do not think about skipping a chapter for game health, yet I do not have the impression that the bugs become less and less. It is the opposite, nurse fix are demanded since they "slightly" adjusted her. This doubling up on manpower is such a joke.
3 -
Dont dare to touch my pyramid boi!! I dont want he become Behavioured as Nurse.
1 -
Allow me to doubt that you play him.
6 -
I wish we got more lore in the livestreams, there isnt any.

Bloodlust was added as a hotfix back when there still were infinites or very strong God loops, maps have been rebalanced and nerfed, so bloodlust isn't needed anymore. For the game to be truly in a balanced state then it has to eventually reach a point where BL can be removed without hurting killers. It was a quick fix to previous problems, it never was intended as a proper game mechanic.
0 -
It rewards bad killers for being bad. Bloodlust was a bandaid fix because of the impossible infinite loops that were there, but they have been removed and reworked (except on like 2 maps that we all still complain about?) so Bloodlust has no point on staying.
0 -
Thanks for sharing this. There was a lot of good info.
0 -
Did they even Address the sound bugs of survivors not making any sounds?
1 -
I did not even know bloodlust had multiple tier.
0 -
I wouldn't know. She has become so rare to see in game that i only seem to go up against new nurses before they dumpster her for spirit.
Since i use to play base nurse and still randomly dabble with the trash heap we have now, i usually find myself being the only one on the team that is able to sustain a chase for over 60 seconds against her or until they give up.
The other survivors just seem to hold W and be predictable.
2 -
Who said this isn't intentional? They literally just removed repair sounds so you can work on a gen next to the killer and they have no clue unless they count the pistons and face check every generator.
Does that sound like a rational decision in a game like this?
1 -
Hopefully if they nerf pyramid head at all they at least also rework his add-ons... The upper tier are useless. I hope he isn't nerfed but I would take a small nerf for useful add-ons.
