Tips for a newbie killer?

Alright, I'm not a "newbie" killer, but I'm still rank 20 (literally only play killer to do dailies) and I'm thinking maybe I can poke my head into that role a little more. Do you guys have some general tips for beginner killers?

EDIT: Killers that pique my interest: Spirit, Doc, Plague, Nurse

I think killer is easier to start with compared to survivor. You can actually explore the maps as killer without pressure (and occasionally find someone on accident too)

So there's 7 generators on the map right? Use those as a general guideline (protip: Survivors generally spawn away from you) and just walk around the map until you find a survivor. It's pretty rare that it's worth it to vault a window, so just go around it. Breaking pallets generally makes the area more dangerous for the survivor.

You'll catch someone, but I wouldn't recommend hanging around the hook. Go back to patrols. If you're near-ish when the save happens, go after the unhooked person. Why? The injured person has to go heal so they'll be off generators for a while, and it avoids some obnoxious perks that come into play that way.

Take down the new survivor, rinse and repeat until you break their team and they die or they escape. Don't worry about it if they all escape. It happens to the best killers out there. What you should worry about is bloodpoints though. Always be doing something that generates bloodpoints. That's how you buy better equipment for your killers.

Don't be too worried about playing the "right" way. You'll hear a ton of moaning on this forum and elsewhere about tunneling and camping, but don't give it a second thought. Don't tunnel or camp just to be an ######### and ruin a survivor's experience, but it's often in your strategic interest to do a little of both. You don't win games by hooking everyone twice before killing anyone. My advice would be to juggle back and forth between the first 2 survivors you hook until they are out of the game. If you just tunnel one you run the risk of getting eaten alive by decisive strike and borrowed time. Once there are only 2 survivors left the game is pretty much over. Slug one and go find the other.

Just remember that you are going to get teabagged and BMed regardless of whether you play 'honorably' or not. Don't let it get you down.

Pretty old but still valid tutorial vid from Scott:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8u0jRxN2kQ

It shows how to chase survivors around basic tiles.

Other thing is to hug obstacle tighly when chasing a survivor. Survivors most of the time slide off them to make it faster to run around so you should do that too but it takes practice.

One addenum: Nurse is the best killer in the game but also hardest to learn. It usually is 4K or No K with her and he plays completely differently to every other killer. Spirit is 2nd best and she's easier to handle. Doc is standard m1 killer with some extras mixed in and Plague has very powerful ability to down people quickly.

Overall I'd suggest focusing on Plague or spirit out of these you picked. They are very strong killers and very rewarding.

Started playing a few days ago.

My advice right now would be...don't. Apparently the devs have completely removed killer matchmaking, meaning that this was about my day and was not even in the top 5 most unfair matchups.

Keep in mind that at least 3/4 of my games have at least 2-3 players working together over Discord. The only reason I'm playing right now is that I sank a few bucks into this game recently, as once I do burn out, I'm not sure I'll have the will to return.

I'd enjoy survivor for now and come back once they've added matchmaking - apparently it's a month or two?

    Play who you enjoy.

I also prefer the hunt aspect of playing killer, as opposed to the killing part. Don't get too caught up in just killing off the survivors.

I'm thinking the opposite, killer is harder than survivor to play at the beginning. But I think it's easier to improve as killer than survivor.

There is 8 generators on a map, that left 3 generators when survivors has to do the last. So you have to defend 3 generators from the start. You care about others generators but when I play killer I know which generators I want to be done and which one I don't want to be done. But sometimes I don't patrol Gens and just chase survivors, I works sometimes.

My big advice for playing killer : just play as the way you want! Personnaly I don't care to kill all survivors, I like to let one go, so I don't care about generators too, I'm just practicing and have fun by chasing survivors. With a gameplay like that I reached purple ranks very easy and I don't play killer very often..

What killer are you? Strategic or fun killer?

Fun killer is the way to go btw. Some people listen for survivor sounds. For generators making noises.

Don't camp unless it is tactically wise to do so. It is best to hook and go search and destroy. Don't worry about them unhooking. That means they are available to down and hook again. Don't get me wrong, camping, tunneling, slugging, and the Mori all have their place, but they are special use tools. Get the basics of search and destroy down. Learn to patrol your Generators and go for a 3-Gen early because mid-late game it will pay dividends. Don't worry about losing matches while NEW. Learn your basics, take risks, and experiment. Just don't down one person and sit there till they sacrifice. You get no decent practice doing that.

The best tip I could offer is learn when to drop a chase. There will be SWF teams where one person is designated to be the looper. Their job is to lure you away from generators. If you find yourself in a chase for more than 10 seconds, or they're leading you away from generators, drop it and go back to the generators!
