Question for PC players
So I'm an xbox player and have been curious about something since crossplay has happened.
Do PC survivors have/know about the chest search killing a survivor whose struggling on the hook? Back a year ago when I started playing this would happen and once I found out this happened I was careful not to interact with chests while someone is struggling just in case. And for the most part it seemed like most xbox survivor's started doing the same because a month or so in this didn't really happen anymore. However since crossplay I've seen instances where this is popping up again. I can confirm at least three times where this for sure was the case because I was the survivor struggling and could see the person searching a chest which then ultimately lead to my death. Four other times where I believe this is what happened but can't confirm.
So my question is, does this happen to PC survivors? Or other console's? Was I right to assume this was something that happens to everyone or was this an exclusively xbox problem? If it is then maybe this thread can shine light on this issue once more so that our fellow fog dwellers stop killing each other for a flashlight xD

It's always possible someone struggling sees your aura, notices you're searching a chest rather than doing just about anything else at this point, and says: "Screw this, next game." ;)
Jokes aside, I've never heard of this happening before. I'm PC player.

This is something I've never heard of either and I can't for the life of me see why someone searching a chest would have any effect on the survivor who was struggling on hook?!

It could be because it somehow causes an FPS drop/stutter, therefore meaning the game didn't receive an input in time and kills the survivor???
Edit: this kinda looks sarcastic reading back on it but it's legit not I swear

Console player here can confirm. Doing some actions halts the game which can be enough time to make the struggling person die on hook. Its been like this for a while.

I play on Xbox and AFAIK it only happens on our platform. Also Sloppy hits will cause your game to literally freeze for a full second, and Doc can do a thing I won't mention that lags the game. All on Xbox for sure.
PC players definitely don't know about this. None of this stuff happens on PC.
If you play on PC and equip Sloppy against cross platform players you are a bad person.
Also, since they updated chests I don't think this bug can happen anymore. It's a new animation and the item is already in the chest when you open it. There's not lag spike when you open it like there was before. I haven't tried to do it while someone was in phase 2 though, so I can't be sure.

I know it's not sarcastic @GoodBoyKaru no worries about that. I can't see though how someone else searching a chest would affect your inputs to the struggle, even if it dropped their fps (the person who was looting the chest) it should have no effect on the person on the hooks game.
I've got a couple of people who play on Xbox so I'm checking with them as well to see if they've heard about it because I know it's not a bug report that I've ever seen etc.

Well then hopefully some PC survivors will see this and take care moving forward. I haven't noticed it happening since the new chests have been added but either way I figured this might shed some light. Who knows how many DC that people get angry about are actually just ignorance to this problem.

I have never experienced the open-a-chest - survivor-dies-on-hook-bug on PC, but sloppy makes my game freeze too, so that's not a Xbox only issue.

This issue has been told by multiple forum members multiple times on the console optimization threads...

It's because the game would hitch to spawn the item in the chest, which affects EVERY player in the game including killer. If a survivor is on the hook it will interrupt their inputs and they die. I've seen it like 100 times, and everyone I play with knows to not search a chest if someone is on a hook in stage 2.
@ill_Boston_lli is someone I play with all the time and he can confirm it happens. I can forward any of my friends to you as well.
If your friends say it doesn't happen then chances are they don't know about it.
Sadly I'm not even sure if I could prove it to you now because the chest search animation is changed and the game doesn't hitch when opening a chest now.
Also bloodlust makes killer's game freeze for a second the same as Sloppy.
All this stuff has been in the game for a long time. I know I've submitted bug reports of some things but they never get fixed.
EDIT: Here is a thread I made back in January about it. It got moved to bug reports and was never technically addressed.

PC here and have never seen this happen, or experienced it while I am struggling. But if someone died while someone else was in a chest I probably assumed they gave up and let the entity take them because some jerk was butt-up in a chest instead of working to save them, which is always disheartening to see. But as a specific glitch I have no knowledge of it.

I already know for sure it exists, have had a happen to me and seen it plenty of times. I just wasn't sure if it was a problem for pc and by the looks of it, seeing how not a single pc player seems aware, that answers my question.
As far as bloodlust and sloppy, I don't really expect a killer to switch these tactics for this issue because it really should be something the Devs give some attention to. However on the subject of chest searching, PC Survivors here that just learned about this bug should go forward with this in mind and not search them if someone is struggling. At least I til someone can confirm whether the new chests cause the same issue.

PC and I have definitely never heard of this.

This just proves the disconnect between console and pc. How many other bugs there are that are console only

I never get this. Sometimes I'll search the chest next to you before unhooking in case it has a med kit that I can heal you faster with. That way I can, well, heal you faster without searching the chest after the killer is notified and probably coming back.

I can confirm that searching a chest DOES in fact affect all players in the game. It happens more often than not actually. Sure it shouldn't affect every but it DOES.

won't happen on pc its more of a console issue.

That's great but it definitely does happen and I've seen it a number of times. If I remember right, in the last when this was circulating around forums, they said it mostly happens when a flashlight is what spawns inside the chest? But either way I think it be good for someone to make some kind of effort to spread the word. I'm also curious if there are any quirks or bugs like this that affect the PC players but not console.

I can definetely say that this is happening on PS4 too.

It's kinda funny that you can always tell as a killer when a survivor gets an item from a chest due to that FPS drop.

I have brought it up in a few posts myself

No doubt I have evidence of these fps drops in many of my YT vids. I'll go through them when I get a chance
