BHVR says they dont need a health chapter

Does anyone agree? I feel like everyone would be fine if they skipped a chapter to only fix bugs and clear up some toxicity, maybe even rework some existing mechanics and UI.

I understand they say they effectively doubled their team since 2018 but it really feels like nothing has changed. I am not a company manager but it seems like a no-brainer at this point.

I know that, but is BHVR really struggling that bad? At that point they need to do something like a health chapter.

They don't want a health chapter because everyone says they'd be fine with it... until it happens and all the new features are super bugged and broken and everyone hates on them for not polishing their game.

Imagine if cross play, hit validation and MMR had all dropped in the same patch instead of a chapter. The game would've been unplayable in so many senses of the word the community would've been fuming

The teams working on new content would still continue to work on new content, such a chapter would basically just mean they are skipping a content chapter and nothing more.

instead of asking for a health chapter (which would have no effect in the long run whatsoever, because new bugs that occur after that and so on) ask for expanded QA team and processes generally and not only for 1 chapter.

There is no point in a health chapter.

    Why you ask?

Because they will probably just introduce even more bugs. Even if they did fix a plethora of bugs, they will just be re-introduced in the following patch/chapter.

Nothing actually gets fixed, just band-aided.

Man BHVR really got themselves a rep on bugs=more bugs, its sad but true. Bad coding who knows?

I’m really curious on what QA they do to miss so many endless bugs, or if they think the fix later mentality is really good for the game

you really gonna tell me the DS bug on half the killers, the hook bug, or endless sound issues slipped the net?

Yes, but how will they retain new players and make them buy new DLCs when they see the game is riddled with bugs?

Making a health chapter would be a very good investment as more players would stay and buy auric cells/dlcs and would make the playerbase very happy. I see no downsides

Yep. Even if it was for the betterment of the game, they'd not do it due to lost revenue. Which sucks. God knows the game needs an Operation Health.

Considering how bad the new-player experience is in Dead by Daylight, I wholeheartedly believe that they hope that new players buy a few DLCs and skins in the few hours they play, before they burn out and leave.

They do need a health chapter, but god forbid if they take some ideas from other games that went better thanks to health focus instead of money, it's actual long term benefit in the end.

But whatever, let's get some more buggy mess after buggy mess because they "know better".

Funny how many of you have already figured out the answer.

A business needs to keep running. And putting everything on hold doesn't guarantee results. It only amounts to a net loss.

It's like running a restaurant. Closing it for a day would be catastrophic. It's loss in revenue and diminishing interest in their product.

Btw Operation Health on RS Siege fixed nothing and it still runs like dog #########. Community is awful too. Lmao.

    ^This

Years ago they posted a Statistic showing that Rank 20 survivor have a survival rate of less then 2 survivor and rank 1 have a survival rate of a bit more then 3.

And for years they added Perks to solve these core Problems (which does not work cuz new survivor dont have these perks while rank 1 survivor have to many).

They removed old ruin to help new players but the reworked ruin destroys rank 20 even more while red ranks are not affected cuz they never stop touching gens. Now we get undying which again hurts rank 20 even more and make the situation worse while it barely affects red ranks for said reason (undying ruin is strong in reds if you bring a high mobility killer).

They rly have to change the core system (repair speed based on ranks + number of swf member) to help these rank 20 end games faster and slow down red rank games. The Goal should be to have a Gameplay similar to Rank 10.

They doubled their team from what....10 to 20?

Did they publicly announce this? This is ridiculous the game is in a terrible state.

Isn't that the Midchapter already? We get Balance Changes and Bug Fixes on Mid Chapters. The Game needs new content, otherwise People will get bored and leave the Game because of lack of new content.

They never said they dont need a health chapter. Their team is big enough now to do content AND health updates at the same time. There are different teams dedicatet for each thing like balance, bug fixes, outfits and content etc.

Inform yourself before you talk trash like that.

Is that why they took so long to even get a hotfix out for 4.2.1? Because their team is so big they could afford to wait a week or two? Let's face it, their team is probably either the worst coders I have ever seen or their team still isn't big enough for this game

  • Pawcelot
    Pawcelot Member Posts: 985

The problem with that is that they've had updates where they only added cosmetics and stuff broke. Having one team add stuff while another try and fix things won't work in Dead by Daylight because the code is a pasta bolognese.

They could just add a half-assed killer and survivor with no map and the majority of the update would consist of health and bug fixes, but then people are going to be upset that the killer and survivor were half-assed. 😂

    Just watch the 60 seconds:

    https://www.twitch.tv/videos/737094054?t=0h27m32s

Question in the Q&A: "Have you guys ever considered dedicating a chapter just for game health".

They have discussed "dedicating a chapter just for game health", but the team is big enough to work on chapters (content) + "game health features" (not sure if that would include bugfixes) at the same time.

    So what does it mean?

If a health chapter has been discussed internally, but there's no health chapter yet, and the "Product Manager" emphasises how the team has grown to handle both at the same time (content + health), it's clear that there won't be a dedicated health chapter until they decide otherwise (remember he said that they discussed it internally?).

They don't need to explicitly say that they don't need a health chapter.

Also, no need to be rude.

  • Thats just not true. Operation Health helped R6 a lot, everyone who is truely invested in the game will tell you that. The problem why many people still have the opinion, that it fixed nothing, is, because they don´t understand, what Operation Health was for. It was never it´s job to fix the bugs that the players werde experiencing at that time. It was designed to change the whole infrastructre of the game. To make bugfixing in the future easier.

For DBD it should be the same. A Health-Chapter should not fix bugs like the "stuck in the hill"-bugs. A health chapter should give them the time and room to reorganize theire whole infrastructure. Be able to change parts of the code, because nobody is inventing new stuff based on that code at the same time into the game. The playerbase would not see most of the stuff, they could do in a Health-Chapter, but it would help the game in the next years.

maybe a health chapter after a set rift at which point you can go back to work on old rifts to gain what you missed (for an entry fee of auric cells)

that way they get money we get bugs fixed and I get the things I missed out on when my computer died

If they would overhaul the scematics they're using for developement atm they would highly contribute to the games health. But hey that would take time and money.

Truly, how does DBD release such game-breaking and exploitable bugs every update? I've played/play a lot of games that go through regular updates and nothing like this happens.

Is it carelessness? Small staff? They go through PTB and yet major bugs will still hit live. I can understand minor bugs slipping through the cracks but how do they not catch bugged DS or unreachable totems? Or a survivor making no sound and the inability to hook? Just how?

Then they take the longest possible time to push out fixes. Some bugs are still around after years, no?

  • HollowsGrief
    HollowsGrief Member Posts: 1,497

Sounds broken for almost a year now, they get progressively worse every single update without any of the past issues being resolved. Also I'm pretty sure they "fixed" the bug where survivors make no sound in the dying state like 6 times now and it still is broken for me. Gonna be honest, all these bugs are making me reconsider buying any future chapters or rifts. And lets not even talk about how IW has been bugged for the last 3ish years.

It’s the obvious cosmetic bugs that baffle me how they get through QA.

If anyone played 1 single game with Oni, using the Minotaur skin, and activated his power just once; they would not have been able to miss the graphical bug, same with classic Ghostface cosmetic when it launched.

So the question is do they really not even play 1 game long enough to use the killer power once; or do they and see the bug and release it anyway, charging money for something that isn’t fixed for a week or so after release?

Neither option is very good and both have many easy options to either avoid or at least improve public perception.

It looks really bad and it sucks that they have that reputation of breaking things when they try to add or fix something, or things never being as good as they seem.

And that's all going to be dumped on one part of the team. It won't be the art team untangling the spaghetti code. It won't be the sound guys. It's all being heaped onto the code monkeys. And you're asking everyone else to take a vacation. It simply won't happen.

And that's quite the anecdote that it used to be awfuller. I'm just randomly going to throw in a vote kick for you. Aaaaand you're gone. Time to get spawn killed or win automatically because friendly fire is funny.

The same company that knowingly releases patches riddled with bugs is obviously not going to think they need a health chapter. They're totally fine with the bugs in the first place as long as they don't affect the bottom line.
