It's not holding the game hostage, it's tactically waiting for hatch.

The exact same thing just happened to me, but with 2 toxic nea's and they escaped through the hatch after about an hour (or so it felt like).
This is truely the most painful experience you can have with killer.

He actually is running a tracking perk (TT), it just doesn't track survivors doing nothing.

This is why I feel like a realm stagnation collapse should be added in.
At or after the 15 min mark the game will do checks every X minutes where if there is no significant progression on either side's(No hooks/knocked into the dying state no real generator progression(Regressed generator progress is ignored aka ruin can't force this)) objective it will force a stagnation collapse which will force a 4 min timer for survivors to get out or die.
During this collapse the hatch is blocked off and the survivors will still need to finish generators to open the exit gates.

Right as it was getting climactic it cut out, like a eerie, sped-up, footage reel from a old handheld video camera that had an unexpected dead battery.
Wish we couldโve seen the finale!

Really wish the devs would do something to prevent this from happening. Everytime this happens the go-to response I see is "should have brought whispers :)".
