Hatch mechanics

Hi all,
PS4 player here, I've always been a survivor main since the release on PS4 but decided to give freddy a go after a six month break.

Been playing again for about two weeks and having great fun.

The reason for the post is that I just had one of the best games I ever have been involved in, basically lasted 30 minutes or so with 3 possible gens left they needed one but made the error of leaving them together.

Man did these survivors play well to try to get one between the three remaining.

To cut a long story short I got a 3k because I slugged one to the floor and was trapped with no hooks but managed to get the last to the basement the one on the floor bleed out and I was not expecting delivering.

Anyway I managed to pull him into the dream world and hit him before the Hatch which I thought would put them in the dying state as he was injured from being on hook but no he went straight down the Hatch?

So what's that all about?

Not at all bothered about the kill just want to understand.
The way they played I would of been happy with a 1k so much fun lol.

Many thanks.

Wait? You have played since ps4 release and you were a survivor main, but you don't know the hatch mechanic?

But you need to interrupt him when he jumps by grabbing him.

Sorry but if I have ever been injured then hit I fall to floor in the dying state.
If I have gone for the Hatch when I'm not injured I can escape if the killer hits me before the Hatch.

Just asking why if the survivors is injured and I hit them right at the Hatch they escape and not go down to the dying state?

If you do a short melee, not a lunge as they are jumping in you will grab them out of the hatch. Also survivors can jump out the hatch in the downed state. As well as with the pigs reverse bear trap on.

OK so does that mean not fully press the hit button or press quickly?
    Sorry for sounding dumb.
And I know you can crawl out in the dying state but didn't understand if he's injured and hobbling to the Hatch and I hit him and here the noises and everything for a hit he didn't go down.

Just want to understand better for next time is all but appreciate your input.

So a lunge is when you hold the attack button, and to grab an injured survivor that is a) crawling through a window/over a pallet b) pull them out of the hatch... You must use the short attack where you just tap your attack button. (you can pull healthy survivors out of the hatch too, but not through windows and such) If you hit him as he was going through the hatch he will continue to go through the hatch, if they dont they will go down and can instantly jump in before your attack cooldown is over. Hope that answered your question.

Thanks for the answer much appreciated :)
