What happened to this game?
I remember this games community used to be so fun and enjoyable that you had fun even if you lost a progress pip. Now it's nothing but tunneling, noed, potato survivers, and toxic survivors. Did a big majority of the chill player base leave? Every now and then I get good teammates and non toxic killers and survivors, but where did all the fun go? 9 times out of 10 when I manage to get another PC player as a teammate I'll tell them what perks I have and they still won't work together or they'll purposely deni me unhooks despite me having we'll make it. I just try to be a good teammate and be the medic, but I just get people that wanna wait while others do the work or they blame me for the loss even tho I'm the only one trying to unhook when the killer isn't right there. I feel like maybe I need to take a break from this game, but this is what most of the people I play he's with play.

The longer a game sticks around, the sweatier and more horrendous its community becomes. Happens with every game, DbD has been out for 4 years now so it's hardly a surprise

I don't ever remember a time where the community was nice and friendly, but maybe you were here before me. I honestly just ignore people like this, they take the game WAY too seriously. Just laugh at people who blame you for a loss and if you can't handle their babbling then just join another game and don't let it get to you. If you feel you need to take a break from the game go ahead. I have taken a two week break from this game due to just being incredibly unlucky by playing with people who are from mars and their overwhelming laggy games. Also, it sounds like you do alright in the game just being the medic. There are good times though, you will meet a bunch of cool people throughout the game who aren't toxic.

You're either just having a bad day or you've had a ridiculously charmed experience up until now, because this game has never not been full of potatoes and tryhards.

The list of my killer actions :
-I camp (in the hope of having another survivor only)
-I do not tunnel
-I don't kill when I don't need PB, I let everyone out.
-I don't kill SWFs, I show that I'm better than them, except in difficult times.
By surviving my actions:
-I don't tbag, except to joke with the killer and survivor.
-I pick up the survivors (unless the situation prevents me)
-I only disconnect if I have a bug
-The killer can intimidate me to find the other survivor I never talk (lol)!
-When a survivor is on the hock I will save him, even with NOED
-When there is only me and one other survivor left I intentionally call the killer to hock me (usually the patato survivor never finds the Hatch, ARGHHHH).
Ps: trust me, There are a lot of people like that but you don't notice them !

(This is going to be long-winded response, if anyone cares to read it, I applaud you). Im not going to rebuttal these statements.
It is the same thing for every year-1 game. The original friendly player base turns toxic, salty and rude because the game they bought at the start turns into buyer's remorse after the game is changed again. A person will find alot of year 1's and year 2s in a game that become extremely toxic. I hear the common phrase of "DONT YOU KNOW HOW TO PLAY THE GAME?!" from y1s. Just like in Overwatch. Same thing.
I find plenty of Year-1s in that game that literally RAGE in the game and lose their MIND in chat on player's. Overwatch refuses to mute-ban them because they aren't going to upset people that pre-ordered their game. Otherwise it looks bad on the company's part.

Im a year 2-ish here and even I find the changes here to infuriate me. Despite I still like the game, I no longer "love" the game. I use to play this game every day and spend binging sessions doing the game. Now I dont. Just for the fact that the changes have made the game less interesting to play and it feels MORE "concrete".
When I started playing I felt that the killer ranks a person worked towards in this game. Made me feel like I EARNED the rank. Then when they gave Killers the ability to move BBQ and Chili as a perk , then Nurses calling. it made my rank feel obsolete. I felt like killers were given a crutch. Both from a survivor stand point and a killer stand point. Perks that are genuine "Radar perks" are DUMB. A game about hunting DOWN a survivor after you used LOGICAL deduction and searching felt ruined in some aspects. Because killers get to a certain rank and then they complain they cant rank up because of "SURVIVE WITH FRIENDS".
Whether killers like it or not. SWF (Survive with friends) is very important to the game. It keeps people coming!
What doesn't make the game more appealing to players; is the lack of "carrot and stick" in the game. Such as the HATCH being closed now. I beta tested the Hatch closing and I remember more players disconnecting from their matches when the killer stomped the hatch shut. Or they just GAVE UP, early game. I knew it was a problem and I knew why it was happening.
I did get a bit of understanding into the human mind when I took psychology in college and it made sense how video game companies worked. You have to bait the player into the game. You have to give them risks, rewards and objectives to create an immersive experience. With the hatch now being able to be closed. There really isn't an opportunity to play the match if the teams are bad. Because if the team is bad. The exit gates are NOT on opposite sides of the map. There is ZERO reason to try and even play the match at this point. Because the odds were NOT in one's favor from the moment the map was generated.
Changes to hold player interest (my opinion, not my advice).
ELIMINATE HATCH CLOSING - Remove it! If killers want their 4k. NOED should be played and also be EDITED so it trips when the hatch is available.
END GAME COLLAPSE TIMER - If time spent in a match is a burden on the servers. Id say 60 minutes is FAIR for any match. The timer starts and every 15 minutes the creepy bell sounds.
The reasoning behind this is, there can easily be a 2-survivor, 3-gen lock situation.DC rank capping - If players want to experience LESS team mates that DC. It needs to revolve around the Rank system and use that to determine Player quality. That way if someone disconnects from the match. They lose 2 ranks and their rank is capped for 10 matches (ie, they can no longer go past 2 ranks below the rank they were at.
Example. Player is Rank 10. They DC a match. Their rank drops to rank 12. They have to play 10 matches completely and successfully exit the match 10 times . in order to unfreeze their rank. If they DC again. The system drops them continously but they are still capped at rank 12 (HEY, the idea is a work in progress!) The purpose of this is to allow players that want to be ranking up. To do so, and those that are doing bad or just having a bad day. Can chill. While those that want to cause problems can stay in those ranks. While others can bass them.DISTORTION - It needs MUCH love and MUCH attention. Too many killers CRUTCH off of BBQ and NURSES calling. I'm going to get flamed for this, but as a person whom plays killer often. You CAN rank into red ranks WITHOUT Chili, easily. I do it often and its NOT an issue.
Distortion needs to be an ACTIVE perk that works the same as CALM SPIRIT. Basically a "protection card". It should work at blocking WHISPERS and any time a perk that will reveal the player's Aura to the killer. NO more "tokens". Nurses calling can eliminate all of the tokens right away!
Killer's need some SUPPORT to. Afterall. They ARE the star of the show! The iconic killers of this game need the added hollywood drive that gives them "The edge". Im Sorry to say this but if I take out a list and begin a crossing off all of the perks that are NOT VIABLE for the matches I play in. I'd say 7/8 or even 9/10ths of them are NOT usable to win in a RED RANK game or a PURPLE rank match. As they are only "background noise". to SWF.
Perks that could really use some LOVE are going to need to be work-arounds with HEX totems. IF they are being cleansed. They shouldn't be as easily eliminated from the playing field. After the killer loses that HEX totem. The ability for the killer is GONE forever.
Killers complain about MAP CONTROL and not being able to catch survivors as easily. Should we really consider "FIRE UP" to be a revised so it gives the killer momentum as objectives are being completed? (Faster killer speed, and faster action speeds?)BBQ and nurses only giving ONE audible notification? per-situation it would proc?

I agree with that rank capping idea, but they would need to make it a so many times thing otherwise if you DC from just poor connection or the internet going out for a sec you'd get locked.

We also have tendency to remember a lot more bad things that happen rather then good
I play as fair as I can as killer (I know that survivors have bad games as well)
I do try as survivor but sometimes I can't get away from the killer ( Or do 2-3 gens and die on first hook or just die on first hook anyways)
