A question for those hating on Deathslinger...

I certainly agree with you, but can I also say that deathslinger is insanely hard to go against and increasingly frustrating. You do every single m18 juke but it's ever so hard to juke the shot, because it's "effortless" for the slinger to start aiming. Giving a survivor no time to react before. BAM, the surviver is hit, no time to rouge because there is no charge up time.
Devs. If your reading please, please make a small 3 sec charge up time, but not just that give like a little hint that he's charging up.
Just like for billy and for bubba.
It's just not fun, and yeah I know it's part of the game, but sometimes somethings are just impossible.
But this is not the same as perk builds those are people being smart finding builds.
I know this is off the topic but I feel like I need to say something. Poeple are always complaining about perk builds. I say, ITS PART OF THE GAME! This is a type of game where you want to find these things to help YOU LIVE. And I know you want to make sure everyone has fun. But this is a survival game, where you work as a team to survive. So DS+UB, it's a good freaking build, it's stops tunneling, and yeah I know it's annoying in the end game but. That's the play, it helps you survive. UnD+Ruin fantastic build, it helps slow down gen rushing, which BTW I see complaining about," ohh I'm quitting dbd because every game I get gen rushed. :(". Calm down people, use these "toxic" builds and stop it.
My point is, stop complaining, it's a game, people play the game, you can't control what people want to bring in a game.
Next is SWF, holy crap, can a person play with their friends, I know it's annoying I been matched with a SWF group, hello guys I recall I got a 3k.
My last point is just have fun. Playing the game, look past those frustrating minutes, and go again... Freaking tea bag if it brings you what little joy. Stop caring about what others are bringing in or what there feeling, just try (your) to have as much fun as (you) can.
Okay I'm going to shut up now.

All in all I think one issue is that while the maps are random-ish, they are not dynamic. I think a lot of people would hate Caleb less if the maps would adjust to which killer is played against, to encourage either side to use the abilities to full potential.
similar with other killers.

the thing about slinger is that the survivors skill is moot if the slinger is good enough. Its physically impossible to dodge his speargun if he's close (which will happen eventually, since the killer is faster than survivors) so it leads to braindead gameplay of predropping every pallet, which isn't fun for either side.
also, there are plenty of killers that change the survivors playstyle in chase but are fun to go against, like Huntress, Bubba, Billy, Demo, Blight, Pig, and Nurse.
1 -
I never have thoughts like this. I just play the game and have fun. I'm surprised to hear that people don't seem to like a diversity amongst the killers. I mainly play survivor and I enjoy the challenges of every killer.

Nurse has the counterplay of watching and learning. Eventually if you're good, you won't be able to be hit because you know what theyre going to do. As one of the best console nurses(I can say this because most console nurses are trash, and being good at nurse makes you a top tier one on console 😆) the better the nurse is, the longer i can run them. Slingers shot is not possible to react to, meaning that you cant counter him.
1 -
To answer your question better, I know exactly how nurse works, like most killers, including slinger. Slingers shot isn't reactable, meaning that he has no counterplay. Nurse, however, has queues to tell you what she's doing. She holds up her arm while charging a blink, and makes a sigh and clenches her fist when its charged. From there, she'll go 20 meters, but she can release it before this point. She can go from 1 to 32 meters with two blinks, and i know this. I see where she's facing, and how long she charged the blink, and have a very good idea what's going to happen, meaning that if a nurse is against me, an open field is a literal infinite. Once I learn how she blinks when you break line of sight, I will never get hit, unless she is VERY unpredictable, which is rare.
Slinger has no counterplay, since it goes in a straight line, but isn't reactable. You have to constantly juke for a shot he might not make. He can zone you without any effort, and then youre dead in 2 seconds. Combine this with save and monitor, like most people, and theres nothing you can do to win.

I like killers changing the traditional looping but only if it's only done correctly.
Example is Plague. She changes traditional gameplay by giving having the fountains. The make your choice aspect is also really cool. The dodging corrupt part is what I love. Also Nurse I do find to be different in terms of looping but fun to vs.
Deathslinger is different to these two.

Your logic is sound but there is 1 problem with it. You're basing this counterplay on the idea that nurse makes a mistake. Let me explain.
Nurse's blink charge time as you probably knows allows her to make short blinks (around 8m) extremely fast to the point where you have less then 1s to react to them. Meaning that you are very likely to juke her first long blink which nurse uses to get to the genereal area around you, then the second short one for the perfect hit. This can't be avoided no matter what smart play you do (unless you have DH) since nurse can easily react to changes in your movement as long as you're in her LOS, so if you juke any nurse in the open or while she had time to blink to your general are with her fisrt blink and thus has LOS with her second one, it's her who's misusing her power, not you outplaying her (meaning you do have a lot of impact on difficulty of her blink but the outcome is still decided by her imput far more then yours as long as she had LOS on you at least for her fisrt blink).
What is usually the case is that survivors manage to gain enough distance or have enough LOS blockers forcing nurse to predict their movement on the first blink making the second one very inaccurate or even also a prediction blink. These are the ones you can mindgame (assuming the nurse play always perfectly) unlike those where she has enough LOS which are 100% her mistake if she misses them.
If her power was as much under the control of survivors as you make it seem she wouldn't be the most powerfull killer ind DBD since her release until now and probably forever. Main thing holding her back and creating the idea that she has counterplay (while in LOS) is the inability of players to user her to 100% of her potencial. This is the same with slinger who does the same thing, if you're in his LOS and slinger plays perfectly, you're as good as dead since he's in control of the outcome just like nurse is. Main difference beiing that slinger has much more limits and is far slower overall causing his power to be somewhat easier to use (and much much easier to fake) making surviors realise they can't juke god tier slinger just like it's impossible to juke god tier nurse while they have LOS.
Luckily, it's pretty much impossible to play each of these two killer to their 100% potencial so chances of running into someone who is able to play them extrmely well and never miss blinks/shots 90% of the time is just as rare as SWF death squad. Meaning, balancing these killers around 1% and calling them out on lack of counterplay is just as fair as not removing SWF due to existence of tournament level death squeads that can't be countered + are extremely unfair. Both are extreme edge cases which we shouldn't balance the game around.

Meh I'm kinda done with the Deathslinger chase talk. I run spine chill and iron will a lot now. His chase is BS and miserable so don't give him one, that's all you can do. This whole "juking his shot" nonsense is just not a thing. The only way you counter him is stealth let's just leave it at that.
0 -
Actually that wouldn't be that bad, kind of like how the sniper works in tf2. Would be much better than a straight up ADS slowdown as a nerf.
Although personally I think he is fine as he is.

Deathslinger is one of or the worst killer in dead by daylight. Don’t get me wrong, I like to go against good killer, and in general deathslinger is maybe a C- or D-tier, but the fact that you can’t dodge his shot (only he missed) is just frustrating. Every CS noob with 20hours dbd can down the best survivors in a few seconds with deathslinger and that shows something is going wrong. A 100%-down in 10 seconds can’t be the goal of a killer design/power! It’s totally fine that killers have different counterplays and survivors have to change their playstyle, but the important thing is: there must be a counterplay!
0 -
An open field vs most nurses is death, but I can read her playstyle once I get hit. From there, I won't get hit again. She's only the strongest killer because people don't know how to counter her, because she doesn't have a solid counter. Her counter is there, just flexible.
0 -
How exactly do you read nurse's playstyle ? If she's good and needs to predict you she'll switch it up, once she'll go directly where she thinks you are, if that doesn't work she'll go to the last spot she saw you for a double blink and stuff like that. No good nurse has consistenct playstyle where she make the same thing over and over. You can read a bad nurse's playstyle who does the same thing constantly, good nurses don't play like that.
And as I said, in the open you have a little to no influence over her getting a hit or not if she's used correctly. Main counterplay vs nurse is her beiing bad, either going for unsafe blinks or misjudging distances on her power.
That's like me saying as hard core slinger main that I know optimal timings and spots for slinger to shoot thus I can read his playstyle and never get his which is not true. Good killers switch up their tactics so reading one consistently is as good as some would say "guessing" what they'll do next.
1 -
I told you its flexible. But in all of my matches against nurse, at a certain point they can't hit me. Doing the opposite of something isn't unpredictable either, and I expect people to do that. Eventually I'll reach a god mode where they can't hit me, and I lose them on fatigue every time.
0 -
Huh, neat. I've never seen anyone who could ascend and avoid perfectly even good nurses, it sounds admirable. I have 2 questions.
Do you stream or make survivor videos ? I'd love to see your gameplay so that I can improve.
And, would it be too much of a bother to ask for a few round vs my nurse. I'm a really horrible nurse (since I don't really play her) but I would like to see your gameplay vs her.
1 -
"shake up the gameplay"? You mean trying to dodge literally insta shots, with no ADS time? And even if you do, he'll just m1 you? Seems like there's a lot I can do against this killers, definitely the issue is I don't want to change my playstyle from having a chance in a chase to lose lose chases.
0 -
there is actually a sound effect that plays when he is aiming at you and they recently made it allot louder so you can hear it in chase but the issue is most deathsingers instantly shoot after they AdS so the sound effect end before the survivor hears it
0 -
when did they make it louder? I've not noticed it changed but its been a while since I've faced him
0 -
last patch i believe. it was not in the patch notes but i could never hear it before in a chase over the music but now i can.
0 -
Then yeah I don't think Ive faced a slinger since then, and I agree in some situations you couldn't hear it though I found I could hear it fine in chase but less so when working on a mostly finished gen
0 -
Sure. My dbd name us ShinobiSlayer360. Weird, I know, but I didnt know what to do for a name. I do stream on twitch, but I forgot the username and password, meaning i need a new account lol. So If you want friend request me and I'll do what you want.

Great thank you. If we eventually see each other online I'd love to have a few chases against you. My user name is same as here, Kebek.

For me its a lot of reasons why i hate deathslinger, first of all his whole visual design is just boring overdone and doesn't fit into the game, second his gameplay is incredibly boring for both sides. As a survivor theres nothing u can do but HOPE he misses a shot, even if u somehow get behind an object after he speared u (cuz that moonwalking thing when shooting a survivor is just utter bs if u ask me) then he still gets to injure u even tho u managed to get behind an object, it doesn't matter if u hide behind smth or not he gets a free injure on top of that its a deep wound, other issues are his terror radius literally not being there then he just shoots u from nowhere etc. As for playing him its just boring to me because i like the chase interaction on both sides its where the skill in the game is its not in gens or injuring ppl, its the chase, and slinger completely deletes the whole chase part from the game, i've played a lot of shooters and my aim is pretty good and for the only killer in the game that requires any kind of aim if u are good with it survivors have nothing to do against it. He is not op in the slightest he is just the most boring killers visually and gameplay wise. Overall chains of hate was a huge failure of a chapter
0 -
yea he needs a nerf to his opression in chase and a buff to map pressure as compensation
0 -
If a survivor is downed that fast, they aren’t good. Just holding forward after getting hit pretty much ensures that you are going to waste another 40 seconds minimum, more if he used the gun and has to reload.
1 -
I just think ds needs a bigger terror radius. If he has monitor, you're basically dead.
0 -
I'd rather go for blocking certain killers from M&A as a whole. Caleb isn't the only killer with a smaller TR, but he's slower than the others.
0 -
Nice. By the way, if we see each other, theres around a 75% chance I'll be killer. I dont really play survivor anymore.
0 -
All low terror radius killers are 4.4 besides tier 1 and 2 michael.
0 -
Well I wanted to see you how you play survivor against nurse as you described. I'm not really a good nurse but I want to see your movement against her since you seem very confident you can evade any nurse if you get enough time to learn her playstyle.
0 -
If you start blocking killers from using perks due to synergy you're gonna open up a whole can of worms.
0 -
I am. Although the worse a nurse is, the harder it is for me. Good nurses are much more predictable 😆. I can assume that they'll blink to corners, which saves time while learning their playstyle. But yeah, I'm not a survivor main. I only play survivor with my friends, because I hate solo. If you run into me as a survivor, you'll lose unless we are meming. We're all really good and typically win without sweating. If you see me with Pro Gamurr, you want to dodge, because chances are we're running head-on. We go on comms and use head on with a flashlight, and trust me, you do not want to go against that.
0 -
Tbh I've had like 3 nurse game today after not playing like for 3 months and my blink precision is so bad. But I had fun, even when everyone escaped almost every time. It'd be interesting to see you play anyway, even if I can't land single hit on you.
Also I don't dodge almost ever. I welcome challenges from any team I face, if I lose, so be it. At least it's more fun to get destroyed by good SWF then constantly get rank 1 solo potatoes teams who die in first 4 min, that's pretty boring. I don't want to pry but a few matches vs your team would be also really fun to play. I probably won't win even one if you're as good as you claim but it'd be learning experience so we can do that too if we somehow all randomly play at the same time eventually.
Edit - Also I wanted to ask, should we play at the same time how shall we write ? I think I saw you play on console so responding through ingame chat would probably be difficult for you. I would suggest discord (Kebek#6507) but if you have any other option I would like to know it.

Id love to play with you, but please run a mori or something so you have a fair chance. We aren't just a challenge, we are a loss. Id feel really bad going against you if my friends are running their usual builds and you don't have a mori. They play SHAMELESS, and I'm the only empathetic one there. They'll all be sweating, guaranteed, and I'll just feel bad. So please, if you see me in a lobby, play shameless. Its the only way you'll have a chance, because even if you play fair, they won't.
0 -
Well if we meet randomly through MM I will never notice since I 90% of the time am alt tabbed out of game not looking at the survivors I'm getting.
And as for me, a mori game isn't half as satisfying to win for me, that's why my mori collection only grows even higher, right now it's at 1425 ebony mories (with a few tombstones counted as well). Playing fair is imao pretty subjective, my way of playing fair is doing any strategy that helps me win, be it tunneling, camping, whatever fits current situation.
As I said, I welcome any team that goes against me and any way they play (as long as they follow the official rules ofc). Losing only means I still have room to improve my gameplay. No need to feel bad for playing your best to win.

Deathslinger is not OP, nor does he need nerfs.
However, to say he shakes up chase gameplay is wrong, you and I both know it. A killer that shakes up chase gameplay is Nurse, who you mindgame more than you loop, like every other killer.
Your chance in a chase against Slinger is based on his skill. If he's good, you're going down. There is no dodging, there is no amazing mindgame you can do. He will shoot you, and if not, he will zone you.
The game is not a 1v1, and so I don't think this is OP like everybody else, but it's also not that interactive on the survivor side. You can't say that it is. Play against or watch a good Slinger play, and you'll see.
I also think he's fun as hell to play so lol
0 -
Holy ######### thats a lot of moris. I do hope that i meet you someday.
0 -
Oni is easy to bully, provided you have teammates that actually do gens, which again, is in survivor control. Not hard to deny his power when you throw the pallet early.
Blight, I'm not sure about him yet, he's loopable, but seems fairly strong.
0 -
You get 4 good loopers on comms and there's not much killer can do. But that's the whole point, survivors want to be able to control the loops, so they wont focus on gens, hence the whining.
0 -
I said this in another post, but as Deathslinger, you never think, "oh, wow, that survivor really showed off his/her skill there". You think, "oof, I missed," or, "it's a shame there are these obstacles here. Nothing I can do about that."
That thought process should in and of itself tell you what's very, very wrong with The Deathslinger.
0 -
I think the only problem with deathslinger in my opinion is that when your shot by the spear you bearly have any resistance to being reeled in. So regardless of what you do your still getting reeled in without any hope of escaping given if there is not a clear obstruction in the way to get away.
