What do people think about de-pipping as a DC punishment?
It seems that the most popular cause for a DC is to avoid de-pipping. You can clearly see when someone DC because they are not having a good game.
So having de-pip as a punishment would hopefully prevent that. As the player would ideally try to play on an earn enough to black pip.
Possible counter-arguments in advance...
1. "I shouldn't be punished when I DC because I dont like the killer/map" - yes, you should be punished. This game isn't just about you.
2. "I shouldn't be punished because my internet cuts out" - ok, this would be unfortunate. However, it shouldn't be that common that it really makes much difference to your rank anyway. If your internet cuts out all the time... well, that's just something you need to learn to deal with and you probably have bigger things to worry about than de-pipping.

I don't know if they changed it but its always done that as far back as when I first started. You always lost 2 pips. I don't think anyone gives a crap about their rank, really. 90% of DCs are to "outplay" the killer in a "haha you dont get the hook im not salty lelelele" kind of way.

Some people would just DC to purposely de-pip, go to higher ranks and then they would smurf, that's the real issue

The best way to punish DCers, IMO, would be to force them all into the same lobbies. Everyone else gets normal trials, the DCers get to (not) play together.

No one who's decent at the game or has played it for a while cares about pips. Furthermore, when the MMR actually gets implemented, pips and rank will be taken out of the game, which would make this sort of punishment completely irrelevant.

Is it? Seems more like the majority of players DC because they either got angry with an in-game situation (such as getting caught first, playing against a certain killer/survivor, or getting a certain map) or because they had game/internet issues (such as poor latency or a power outage).
You're already supposed to lose 2 pips when you DC, unless they changed something about that for some reason. I guess I'm not sure these days, I don't disconnect very often nor do I really care about pips/rank anymore.
Of course remember that some players may consider exploiting such a simple and quick de-pip system in order to de-rank to play against less experienced players (likely with the intent to bully them).
I don't think expanding upon anything like this will be necessary or healthy for the game. Instead it would be far better if the timed matchmaking ban penalties were brought back, preferably in a way where they cannot be unfairly given to other players who did not DC from a match.

That's why people suggest putting them in a separate queue with other ppl that DC/lag out frequently. That separate queue will also have less priority so faster queue times for ppl who don't DC.

yeah they actually removed that penality at one point because people would DC games on purpose just to depip and get easier matches.
as far as im aware its back though? dunno, its not really a punishment if you ask me. not only can it be undone very fast, some actually even want exactly that.

They would then just afk or suicide out of the next game if they have no BP to gain at all. Now if you really mean until their next survivor escape that would just drive people away from the game especially if they are new.

If you disconnect you should get a message at the end mocking you.
Like:
"YOU LOSE! COMPLETE AND TOTAL FAILURE!"
I mean killers get "Entity Displeased" if they have a mildly bad game. I think it'd be fair to tell DCers they lose. And if you actually get a crash you won't see the message cause the game will have to reload from the start.

Rank and pips are meaningless
I just played a match where I ran a huntress for Six Minutes and then all three of my "teammates" all instantly died.
Rank in theory should be sign of skill, not time played, and clearly MMR isn't going to work. Its why I only play SWF, you can't trust other players to have any braincells.

it's only one now. was 4 then 2 now 1. even with 4 it is a reward not a punishment for people.
blood points aren't an issue. people will play killer to get them. so really there isn't much you can do to punish people with blood point limitations.

This is probably the best option.
Force DCers to play a certain amount of time within consecutive matches without DCing in order for them to get out of “DC jail.”
This way, (using a actual time clock, as opposed to just a specific number of matches to get out) if other players DC in-match, it doesn’t credit the other players in the match who don’t DC to get out sooner. They all must individually reach the magic number of hours in-match before they are released back into “normal trials.”
Just need to have enough killer DCers to accommodate the number of survivor DCers, although, that’s the other downside to the DC prison... the lobby times could be fairly long depending on high/low rate of DC.

Everytime my internet cuts out I save the clip. I want to keep some sort evidence that I just didn't dc.

In dota 2, if you dc two times in a row you go to low priority. Low priority consists of 2 to 5 matches (depending on your behavior score) where you only get matched up with people that dc'ed as well. Not only your queues take longer, but you also get to play with people that trust me you don't want in your team. I'd love to see something similar in dbd.

Issue with this is I honestly can't say I get many teammates that don't make me hate playing survivor, so what's the difference. Also in low priority, don't you have to WIN 5 games without DCing in order to get out, and not just play through them?

Only 'la crème de la crème' would play at low, so if you already hate playing survivor with normal teammates you can imagine how bad it can be in low. Dota is a 5v5 game, so winning makes more sense. In dbd, it could be about pipping. Five games where you have to pip. That seems alright to me.

I play a ton of Overwatch, and trust me, 5 wins in a row doesn't make sense, especially for just how long games of Dota are; they can be up to an hour (sometimes more) so the fact is that sticking to a game where you're playing with people you really don't like, 5 times in a row, regardless of win/loss, would be fair.
True, in DBD it is pretty easy to pip, so it could work.

Oh I see. I did not understand you in the first place. You don't like how low priority works for dota. Well I must disagree. Low priority sucks, but it is intended to be that way. I do believe it works just fine. Dota is a game that can afford to punish their players without losing them, that's the key. Of course it's just my opinion, but this opinion is coming from a person that has played this game for way too much time, and is well above 7k mmr. So we could establish I understand the game quite a bit.

You do depip if you DC. You infact used to double depip when you DC, but this was presumably removed because people DC'd because they actually wanted to depip.

I think a "pattern" of disconnects should result in a Ban once we can make sure Hackers can't transfer their Ban to innocent people. In the meantime, I think those with a pattern of disconnecting should be routed to a different Que full of people that, you guessed it, have a pattern of disconnecting. They deserve each other. I don't care how slow or unfun waiting in that Que will be. After managing to NOT disconnect from a certain number of games there, they get routed back to us.

I actually think they should bring back the 'Timeout' penalty for DCing. It worked pretty well from my point of view....I saw way less DCing when that was in play.
