The counter to Undying + any hex perk
I am seeing posts complaining about Undying/Ruin/Tinkerer, and I am gonna share you all the counter
(FUN FACT: if this is a meta build now, that means devs made Jeff's perk "Distortion" meta now as it hard counters Undying)
When a totem resets, Undying stays in the same position, so you want to find atleast 2 dull totems before cleansing any hex perks if this build is in use. Upon finding the 2 dulls, cleanse the hex you found (Make sure you activated Ruin first) and after cleansing, check the 2 dull totems you found and if one of the 2 dulls is lit, that means Undying is on the map somewhere so now you have to go and search for Undying, upon finding it cleanse undying and go back and cleanse Ruin, now both Undying and Ruin are out of play
Summed Up Version
- Check a gen for Ruin
- Find 2 dull totems
- Find a hex and cleanse it
- Check the 2 dull totems to see if they are lit
4A. If one of them is lit, continue to step 5
4B. If none of them are lit, check a generator for ruin, if its still up look for both Ruin and Undying (As now know the location of 2 dulls and cleansed 1 hex, leaving 2 hexes remaining) and Cleanse both of the totems, after doing this check the two dulls to see if you cleansed Ruin first or not
5.Leave the new Ruin spawn alone and search for the Undying and cleanse it, then return back to ruin and cleanse that
(Explanation for the Fun Fact: Undying detects auras for 4/5/6 seconds when getting near a totem while Distortion hides your aura and scratch marks for 6/8/10 seconds, so if you find a totem your aura will be hidden from the killer, making Distortion become a mini smallgame, allowing easier cleansing and discovery of totems)

Yeah.. except you will lose 2 of your 3 stacks of distortion while cleansing one totem. Really useful indeed.

Yes, and you have a chance of the first totem you cleanse being Undying as well
2 stacks of distortion takes out either Undying or you'll already have the totem cleansed by the time the next hex is cleansed

I'm not sure. Undying shows auras near all totems, even the dull ones. And the probability that the first totem you see is undying is 20%.
Not really worth it in my opinion. You are practically playing with 3 perks for the rest of the match after cleansing any totem. Maybe if distortion had ways of regaining stacks, then it would be an alright idea..

Soul guard is the real big brain counter to all this because the ruin, undying, tinkerer meta that has begun and people throwing it on killers with alot of snowball potential that like to slug, I saw a really interesting build that was kinda broken the other day DS, soul guard, we'll make it, and second wind

first of all, if you think that distortion is meta, then you don't know what meta is.
secondly, the counter it's RNG, period. Nothing more, find undying first, then ruin. It can literally happen in the first 30 seconds of the game, it's just luck. Or being in a SwF to scout every totems stealthy, basically a similar stalling to the one with corrupt, only smarter to counter the aura reading. But if you've a strong enough team to be so coordinated with totems cleansing, then you might as well power up through ruin.

Not true. Distortion does not consume multiple tokens on a single totem cleanse. It's a weird interaction. One Distortion token per cleanse. 100% verified with my team

The reason this happens is because Undying only reveals your aura for a second time if you leave and re-enter the 2m zone. You could stay in that zone for a minute and a half and it'd still only use 1 distortion token. Not suggested because then your AFK crows hit 3 but still.

Like half my matches my undying gets broken within 2mins of the match.. I honestly don't understand why people cry whenever anything actually good comes to the game.

I guess thats because Undying shows the aura for a few seconds instead of all the time when you are near the totem. As long as you stay close enough to the totem, it shouldn't trigger the aura reveal again.

Just do totems. For my games honestly 9 times out of 10 Undying goes first.

You will waste all stacks when you will get in a chase and run past totems or circle in a bad place. Also, you can waste all stacks outside of chase about the same way. For example, you want to avoid BBQ and save a stack, you run to a locker, but a totem is on the other side. RIP Distortion. x)
Its only BBQ counter or you need to "rush totems", lol.

Until Distortion gets a feature where you can get your totems back, or turns into a perk that simply constantly hides your aura if it's from an aura reading killer perk, it's not going to be placed into my builds.

I would if I had it. Seems like a decent perk. I'm hoping it shows up on the shrine soon because I hate the Undying/Ruin combo when playing solo.

Protip: if you randomly use up a token without the killer hooking someone, without healing in their TR, and without you running OoO like an idiot... you just found a free totem to cleanse! You even get to not be seen while doing it as an added bonus!

Its especially solid with a map, since it auto scribes everything in range to the map when it procs. It was already pretty decent before, but its exceptionally strong in the current meta. Trading 1 survivor perk to get rid of 2+ killer ones?

Hm, to an extent you're right. Undying's revealing effect lasts 4/5/6 seconds, while Distortion's anti-reveal effect lasts 6/8/10, so yes, this could work. In my opinion, still, Distortion should last...forever, or at least have a token recovery mechanic.

If you want distortion to last forever, you don't really understand power dynamic balance very well. Imagine running OoO but never having the downside to it? It's already an exploitable portable UAV wallhack as it is, but completely removing its downside?

To be honest, Hex: Undying/Ruin is the best thing they could do (after they "changed" old ruin obv).
It actually means less camping, more chases and more hooks - i.e. potential more points/fun for everybody. If you think about it.
And i say this as a solo. Thing is, there's is still RNG when survs find Undying first. After this, it's just Ruin.
Also i'm using Inner Strength + Dectives Hunch anyway in most of my builds. Or just bring a map. And know when to do totems, and when not. The killer might be fast, but he can only be at on place at any time...

Funny, you just described literally every hex perk for killers, along with NOED, Blood Warden, Remember Me, Corrupt Intervention, Rancor, and Enduring/Spirit Fury after the first use against competent survivors

You need to get rid of exploitability before nerfing something that exists to be a bandaid for exploitable game design. Its part of the reason people were so butthurt about the ruin nerf a while back: Gen speeds are STILL a problem, and its been nearly a year since the bandaid fix got nerfed into a different, less effective bandaid fix. that they are now trying to put another bandaid over with ANOTHER perk, that survioors now want a bandaid to fix for their side. Thhis is why these changes mean nothing without addressing the actual core problems that cause them in the first place.

Distortion is a wasted perk slot, especially in this meta. Instead, consider a map, detectives hunch, soul guard, small game. Or if they’re running tinkerer, have 2-3 people stick together on gens at all times and tinkerer will only alert the killer a gen is about to be done with nothing the killer can do about it.
Distortion needs a huge buff so that it’s actually useable but in return it needs to not work with Object.

I only played killer - Can you actually tell what kind of totem you're breaking?
Because if so, that's just stupid and more of a reason to not come back to this game.
This got the Sea Of Thieves treatment where it's a great game but really crappy people can ruin the fun of it all.

So let's review this real quick.
The counter to Undying + Any Hex is to:
*Blow 1 Perk Slot
*Check for hex debuffs
*Search the entire map for every lit totem
*Remember those totem locations and individually cleanse them until the + Hex has been taken care of.
This is not a counter, this is literally what you have to do anyway, minus blowing a perk slot.

When I face truly good survivors at Rank 1, Hex Undying and Ruin are usually cleansed within 1 1/2 to 2 mins of the match starting. Does it by me a decent amount of time? Sure, but Corrupt Intervention can have similar effect while taking up only 1 perk slot. Against casual survivors, they get completely overwhelmed by the Hexs though.
Personally I like to run Undying on Freddy with Huntress's Lullaby, Overcharge and Unerving Presence with a Dress addon. Meme build for sure, but getting PgtW level of regression on missed skill checks when they wake themselves up is pretty nutty.

I had a game where in the first minute and a half, 4 hex totems were cleansed. (Still won though xD )
I find survivors don't like to fail skillchecks just to wake up; I know I won't do it vs Freddy since it gives away my position and wastes efficiency.

Dude, that's not how it's supposed to work.
You're supposed to run 4 survivor meta perks, then just come here to complain about killers that run their own perks where the easy and obvious counter is bringing a non-meta perk, like "bUt WhY sHoUlD i SwItCh FoR aN oP KiLlEr PeRk ThAt'S oNlY iN 10% oF mY gAmEs!!1!?"
