I counter Ruin/Undying single handedly
I roll up to every game with Detective’s Hunch and Inner Strength. And you’d better believe I end up cleansing every single totem by the end of the game.
I almost feel bad for Killers that run hexes against me because they’re just giving me more points and my build more value. Most people think Ruin/Undying is crazy overpowered... I just think it’s extra bloodpoints lol

Curious what you think of other players -- do you think other survivors are adapting this playstyle? Like do you notice your teammates also doing totems now?

You should run soul guard as well, to take advantage of the hex if it's still up.

Most people on my teams in red ranks don’t really cleanse totems reliably. They might get one or two dull totems if they run into them randomly.
But barely anybody else runs perks to locate totems and I’m usually the one who gets the hexes.
Ironically, despite the meta, I see Inner Strength more often than Detective’s, so I don’t think most people are really adapting

You're the reason Undying, Ruin & NoED are fine.

I had no idea NOED was still fine and now I want to run it.

Sounds like a good strategy! I might try Detective's / Inner Strength sometime; do you find time to do gens or do you find yourself running across the map just getting the totems?

Detective’s makes totem hunting a breeze honestly. Because you’re not actually checking for the totems since you already know where they are.
If there aren’t any active hexes just plan your routes around them, they tend to be somewhat near gens so if you’re smart you can just pick up totems on your way to get unhooks and gens when you have time. Also, Inner Strength makes the time investment well worth it.
If you’re dealing with Ruin, start the game working on a gen and once it pops use Detectives to go on a cleansing spree. Spending 2-3 minutes getting rid of a Killer’s perk slots is totally worth it most of the time. Your early/mid game might start slow but your late game will fly by because the Killer has no gen defense

The point is hopefully youve done enough damage (getting hooks/pallets) before its gone. Nobody expects it to stay up the whole game and nobody cares how many points you get. The truth is if survivors split up to work gens these perks do nothing.

Leave our totems you monster :'(
(Not my drawing btw)

I've been using detective's hunch even before ruin undying meta. People overlook good and interesting perks in favour of meta perks.

Common misconception. Ruin will seriously end the game if the Survivors try to power through it and let it survive.
All the Killer has to do is create one messy situation that draws everyone off gens to completely reset all the progress. Get one Survivor hooked and another slugged. And the last two won't be able to afford to finish their gens and essentially forfeit all their progress

True. Obviously its better to get rid of it.

Really the best way to counter the ruin/undying meta is to do dull totems before you do any hex totom.
There is a 50 50 chance that the hex tottom you find is ruin or undying. Thats way to big of a risk in my opinion. If you take out the dull totem first you take away the opportunity for ruin to be transferred over to them.

Not all heroes wear capes, sir coconut, lol.
I'm gonna run DH and inner strength again to counter this combo.

Good for you to adapting to the game
May you find good luck

The total amount of totems you end up cleansing would be the same as when you go for the Hex totems and they always happen to be Ruin. At least by cleansing the Hex, you at least have a chance of decreasing this number by taking out Undying.
I'm not saying you should ignore the dulls and only go for Hexes, just that the idea of only going for dulls is a flawed strategy. Just cleanse every totem you see, dull or lit.

Literally same but small game. I tend to have most totems gone by the first/second gen.

I've just whacked on Soul Guard every game. That perk is so underrated and I've made so many plays of getting up in killer's face and being invulnerable for 8 seconds. It's helped from anything to getting unhooks vs campers to getting out of the gate, and since people expect it to have been Unbreakable (for some reason??) they don't think you can do it again and again and again.
Because in solo nobody but me seems to be able to do a gen in the first place to trigger DH and as fun as that perk is, trust me I've used it a lot, I'd rather whack on SG.

Really this works best because people will most likely ignore dull totems and find hex totoms instead. Sure the amount of totems you do is the same but with other places for ruin to go that means it stays in the game longer.
I feel I should test this out in a custom game to really confirm it.

I would even say that Detective's Hunch is a must for solo queue. There is nothing more frustrating than dying to NOED because your teammates are all leaving and not searching for the totem.

And this current meta of survivors immediately cleansing every totem they see is why I'm running Haunted Grounds, or even Haunted Grounds + Retribution. (Haunted Grounds + Retribution is kind of a dirty combo because not only are all the survivors Exposed for 60 seconds but Retribution shows you their auras for the first 10 seconds which pretty much guarantees you'll get at least one down in that time.)

Shhh, don't let it be meta like Spine Chill and resilience recently were just because some streamer said it was good.
What's even more OP is you get to see all of the interactables on demand once you have any map equipped. Only problem is it's useless if your team is a potato who didnt finish a single gen.
I do that a lot however there's always one or two totems left even if I cleanse most of it due to the team not cleaning any totems at all. It is really good in a clutch if you manage to guess which dull totem becomes NOED if the last gen finishes

Totems are one of those things that when everybody focusses on them they are gone in an instant.
A totem counter would be nice though

undying+ruin is only a problem because survivors cant run ds, unbreakable, soulguard and dead hard combo anymore, they have to switch one of the perks for totem detection one
0 -
I mean it still has value since you're spending time travelling around the map and doing totems and therefore not doing gens. If the killer gets a hook there'll be only one person doing a gen which he can go pressure if he has tinkerer or another information perk.
Detective's hunch also requires gens to be done.
1 -
The fact that you need a specific perk/map to counter a broken build is just not right. If it happens that you don't pick/have detective's hunch, then you could end up having to search for/cleanse 5 totems just to get rid of ruin and by then the game could be long over if the killer is half decent. Not to mention you need to do gens for the perk to work, a skilled killer with mobility will probably give you a hard time doing so.
We all know on some level that undying is getting nerfed, it just eliminates most of the "risk factor" of hex perks. Remember when it was about "high risk high reward" ?

The biggest counter is to join killers. :^)
