So how come there's no putrid serum this year?
They've done it every year until now, and I want to know why.
And if you're going to say "just wait until the event starts". dataminers have looked for the serum in the files, and it wasn't there.
So how come they only took the serum out this year?

You mean the serum from flowers? That event was a mess of people commiting suicide and not doing gens
2 -
No. The actual event currency you could earn for the past two years. You could earn it from the rift last year, and use it to get 2 skins for free.
And this year it's missing, for whatever reason.

last year's event had the serum's in the free area of the rift. I don't know much about this year till tomorrow because I don't trust other people datamining at all.

Blight took it all when he joined the Killer roster.
20 -
I think last year the serum currency only appeared when the rift opened, despite the cosmetics releasing earlier. I am still hoping this is the case this year!

That selfish goblin, doesn't he know I want some entity meth?!
6 -
OMG, don't even bring that junkie up to me....😢
2 -
Potentially because we have licensed blighted cosmetics for what is the first time. The license holders might have forced BHVR into selling it real money wise. Thats just a theory though so I’m probably just stupid.

Still doesn't excuse them not having it available for the original killers
9 -
Oh definitely not, they should definitely give it to original killers. It just might be the logic BHVR went with.

I've heard that said so many times and to tell you the truth in retrospect, the problems that people bring up about the first event (suicides to get into next match quicker and not doing gens) were completely overhyped and exaggerated. This is one of the few things in DBD History that I remain firm that the community gave bad and poor feedback on, as it resulted in one of the most underwhelming events the following year during arguably DBD's most important month of the year. The distinct lack of anything fun or unique from the following withering blight (the event being reduced to a "do reskinned generators" like the first few lunar new year or Summer BBQ events) was far more problematic than anything from its predecessor.

I hope so too I like to earn 1 or 2 sets of skins like the last 2 years.
just ghostface he don't matter it also one piece another reason it shouldn't matter.
hopefully they do it for the original killers and survivors

I thought they were going to go back to secondary objectives since they added them to the 4th anniversary. But i guess they wanted to be safe instead of potentially entertaining.

^ this.
From my experience, the matches were fine during the 2018-event. The only annoying thing was that Killer queues were really, really terrible until they made Serum available for both roles (at first it was 30 Serums per Role, they changed it to 60 overall), but thats it.
And the 2019-Event was quite disappointing, because the Offering only provided Bonus-BPs (and even 1k less per Gen/Hook than the year before). And if an event Offering just gives 3k BPs per Gen or Hook, they can better make a Double-BP Event.
But sadly, the opinion that the matches were bad at the 2018-event (which was not true from my experience), probably removed the option of having it again.

I've been wanting to experience the original hallowed blight for a long time. It sounds like such an awesome concept that added to the lore on top of the gameplay. But alas, complaints were blown out of proportion.
1 -
Exactly! The only real noteworthy problem about the event were the seriously long killer queue times and the intense grind for the serum, both of which were actually fixed during the middle of the event with a single smart change. The ability to earn serum from both roles alleviated the how long the grind was and allowed you to play your preferred role doing it, and significantly improved killer queue times dramatically.
At the end of the day the most important thing for an event to do in order to succeed as an event is to change up the pace of gameplay from the normal tried and tested gameplay that we always experience more than 80% of the year. If it doesn't do anything to notable to shift the pace of the game (IE: Doing Reskinned Generators) it is hardly worth actually playing because it's not exactly an event. All that does is give you glorified "targets" to hit out of your objectives and that's absolutely no different from what we do on a regular basis.
The Hallowed Blight and Lunar New Year Moonrise event were my favorite events for this reason, the Visceral Cankers from the former which added a unique gameplay element and created an atmosphere in Dead By Daylight that the entity was undergoing it's yearly "purge" of the blight, and especially the Lunar Lanterns that you had to capture and carry out as you escape were some of the best and most memorable events from Dead By Daylight's history.

I really hope we still get event currency this year, Getting the outfits was my favorite part of the event.
Problem is I can totally see them removing putrid serum and then giving the bullcrap excuse "just use the rift if you want free cosmetics"
3 -
In case you haven’t noticed the game is becoming exponentially more expensive while only increasing in quality slightly.
2 -
Profit son, profit.
Everybody is excited for the Halloween outfits -> Players want as many new outfits as possbile -> They don't have enough shards to buy all they want -> They use auric cells to get the rest -> Money comes in.
It does makes sense and definitely is a smart move from BHVR, in my opinion.
2 -
But because he was the one making the vials (I would assume he's the only one able to do that) that does actually make sense? I could be completely wrong, I found that hilarious when I initially read it.

It will be like the Moonlight Event earlier this year all over again if you ask me.
They created the Cosmetics for Jeff and Susie and were weren't able to unlock any.
It's sad because so many other games give players the incentive to earn something during events and DBD is getting slowly out of "Earn amazing skins" to "Buy these skins for money" in these events.
2 -
Because the Rift is there for you to earn your free cosmetics instead.
0 -
Nah, the Rift didn't hinder them to include the Halloween Currency last year, so that argument is weak.
2 -
Rift costs money
1 -
Not all of it. There are plenty of free rewards in the rift.

Theyre usually reskins of preexisting cosmetics, community created cosmetics or preexisting reskins of preexisting cosmetics from the mobile version
2 -
To add to your comment.
The last two tomes included Mobile Reskins of BASE Skins.
Also as if BHVR put the David Blight Outfit in the Free Track
3 -
Maybe. But that's not relevant to the point of them being free.
And who is to say event specific cosmetics would be any better anyway.
The designers are clearly struggling to keep up with the business model.
0 -
Event Specific Cosmetics are in this case better, because they were created for an actual EVENT.
So having them hide behind a paywall without having the chance to atleast get one skins is kind of dumb.
Also if the designers are CLEARLY (tell me where you've seen this and how are they struggling) struggling to keep up with.
How about to let community influence on ideas or working on already existing themes.
Off the Top of my head, they could create more of the Circus based Outfits for the other characters, more 80's inspired skins and so on, I could give you a whole list of cosmetic ideas.
2 -
If they dropped the rift, and just did 2 free event cosmetics you can be sure they would be the same cosmetics that they plan on using in the new rift.
They obviously design a certain number of cosmetics with the intention they can be earned without paying. The method they allow you to earn them is irrelevant. Rift or event, its all the same. Do something = get free cosmetic.
With regards to designers struggling, you have already answered it yourself. It's easy to come up with loads of great ideas, and they do have plenty of great cosmetics. But they also have plenty of obviously rehashed designs that they need to get done quickly to fill the quota.
Dbd isn't a game well suited to this business model of cosmetics. Skins are really all they have. Look at the keyrings for example, they are useless as nobody sees them anyway - not survivors ones at least. But the are desperate to have something to put in those rifts in order to sell the pass.

It's an interesting thought. Though it wouldn't explain how Felix is auric cell only. If he can be made to only be auric cell only, surely the same could be done for Ghostface.
The devs want to help new players but this just punishes them. Players with more hours are more likely to be able to buy the skins for free (shards). New players/casual players unfortunately will only be able to buy 1/2 of the pieces from a set.
1 -
I think they're fine with the way they create the cosmetics.
They don't put many out in-between big patches.
The thing with skins and the rift is, it didn't hinder them last year to give out 2 Event Skins plus all the stuff from the rift.
Also it's not quite the same, for example in my opinion I'd like the Feng and Felix Blight skins so much and I'd rather have one of them in the rift instead of David. Without the rift, we'd be able to earn 1 or 2 of the cosmetics we'd atleast want and it has nothing to do with having to pay for the rift or not.
So why would it be such a big thing to repeat this year?
BUT to end the discussion, let's wait till the event starts and we'll see if we can earn atleast one skin with any kind of event currency

I completely forgot about the terrible queues.

Last year was a crossover period. They probably already had the event planned long before the first rift was released. It would probably have been more effort NOT to have done the event last year.
