Why is rank a thing?
I don't mean my initial question in the 'why is it in the game?' sense, but rather 'what do I get for ranking up, other than bragging rights?'
I'll be forward about it: I couldn't care less around ranking up. if I'm playing killer and having a difficult match, and I camp to get a kill, don't come at me with, 'enjoy your depip'. I went down a rank, cool- I'm still gonna watch this wiggly bastard die. And even if I do manage to rank up, I'm just like, 'oh...that's cool...here I go killin' again.'
I don't understand the appeal of the ranked system- to me, it's such a hollow reason to play the game. All it does is offer an illusory reason for players to be toxic. Do competitive players really need a rank system to let them know they're doing good at the game?

Problem is ranking system still don’t mean your good, I see the rank system as how much you play the game it has nothing to do with skill level anymore, I personally always stay at red ranks there is no incentive to do so I just cant de rank XD I believe I heard something about them adding bloodpoints or something when you hit rank 1 don’t kno if it was legit information

I‘m honestly sick of bloodpoints. A bloodpoint reward would be better than nothing but it‘s just a lazy solution.

Ahah, & don’t quote me on it I think that’s what they may do

Um, well, you just somewhat accurately described what the Devs said that rank actually is, back when they announced the MMR system. So, really really good guess? Like, so on the spot that I think the real quote involved the term "personal victory."

the original concept was to match people of equal skill level, this was quickly deemed nonsense by the community and finally after a long time the devs also came to realize this, hence the MMR system is...well apperently is coming.
But I have been trying to tell people since the dawn of time that rank does not matter, nobody seems to understand is, there is nothing you can do in this game that negatively impacts your progress.
Throw a match, go stand in the basement, you still get points for it, you dont get minus points, so you lose a rank? now what? do you get less points on the lower ranks? nope, are certain cosmetics or maps or add ons rank-locked? nope, rank does not matter at all.

You don't want to see a full a 4 man SWF going against a rank 20 who just started playing the game. Similarly, you wouldn't want to see a 2000hr killer go against survivors that don't even know what scratch marks are yet.
As a survivor main I personally don't want 3 other survivors crouching in corners all game, missing skillchecks, dying within 5 seconds of being found etc. If that was the case 99% of the time, I'd probably quit or only play 4 man SWF. I want competent survivors at my rank... which is what the current ranking system aims to suffice. (Although it's not doing a very good job at it... thank goodness I normally play with a friend).
