Asking to know other survivors ranks in the lobby
What’s the word on asking other survivors ranks in the lobby? Is it ok? Bad etiquette?
Seems like behavior are quietly testing out their new matchmaking system again as I’m getting a lot of 17-19 rank team mates, I’m rank 4 and it’s putting me against rank 1 killers.
In my opinion it generally makes for a bad experience for survivors and killer.

Can someone please move this to general discussion, not sure how it ended up here!

There used to be a feature where you could see the ranks of the survivors who you were in a lobby with, I've no idea why they removed it.

To prevent the massive amount of lobby dodging. Ppl who, at least believe they are gods in the game, dodged when they saw something else than r1 basically....

Because it was a Bug. And so it got fixed (not every Bug is really bad for the game, but a Bug is a Bug and you dont know what consequences that Bug might bring).
I would also not have had anything against it being in the game, not for lobbydodging, but to see how much I have to try to win the game. E.g. if I see that someone brought his Rank 18-Friend, I would know that I wont have time to do Chests or Totems and just stick on Gens.
But, aside from being a Bug, it was also removed so that lobbydodging does not increase. And I get behind that.

I personally think they turned on mmr silently in the background to test it some more with out saying anything. I suddenly have started getting matches with groups ranging from literally rank 1 to rank 20 in all my matches as killer and survivor.
As for your question I think it doesn't really matter until they fix the ranking and rank reset system as the ranks are skewed incorrectly anyway.

Another night of complete mayhem for me, I was doing a steam achievement (put 125 helmets on with pig) the majority were rank 15 or lower and didn’t have a clue what to do, not one even attempted to boop my snoot :(

Back when there was a bug and we could see each other's ranks in the lobbies, I loved it. I have no desire to play with a level 17 Claudette who is going to do nothing the entire game. Then again that's not much different from most red rank Claudias, so....

Does rank really matter? I've had so many red rank survivors do next to nothing and have had rank 17-18 do a ton. Rank isn't really a thing i'm super concerned about in anyway. If I had someone ask it in the pre-game lobby i would probably not really answer or give a joke answer.

I mean, Rank is definitely more of an indicator at how often you play/achieve the game's pipping requirements than of actual skill. Not every Rank 1 is a demigod, not every Rank 10 is a blind goober.
But at the same time, you're not really going to get that many actual Rank 20s who are really experienced and amazing players coming back from long breaks. It'd be nice if the game at least had separate matchmaking specifically for people who are so low Rank that they can't depip, instead of just letting them verse Red Ranks running meta builds.

That would be exploited like crazy. Most red ranks i've played with and against have been really bad. Rank means nothing because reset doesn't really reset much other than 1 color rank. So yea time factors in a little bit, but honestly its easier to safety pip than depip anymore. Even in red rank.

How would a separate matchmaking system for people in Ranks 20 - 17, so that they can't face Red Ranks, be exploitable? I feel like we're talking about different things.

It was in the game for a while but once again "wah we dont want players quitting because of their teammates ranks. So instead we'll force them into an utterly unenjoyable crap shoot of a match".

How dare you ask me what my rank is?!
I'll have you know my uncle works at BHVR!

It certainly does matter, I don’t see the one in DBD as skill based, more progression / time spent playing. I’ve had had random reds that have been about as much use as a chocolate teapot, and 17-18 that work hard but that’s quite rare from what I’ve seen.
I couldn’t care less how skilled someone is, all that matters is they actually try and from my experience the much lower ranks just don’t understand the game fully and need to be grouped with similar players so that they can go on their learning journey together.
It pains me to watch a hooked survivor go into the struggle phase or even die early on because nobody even attempted the save, I feel this way when both as a killer and survivor.
