It is dedicated servers. But if you can still abuse VPNs as killer I believe. Tried it once a while back just to see how it worked and ended up hitting survivors through pallets when I shouldn't of been able to.

It was janky though (high lag).

dedicated servers are out which is why the hits are so bad. If it was how it used to sure the hits would be awful but it'd make sense cause you could see the hit.

The way hitreg works is that the KILLER'S GAME tells the server "Hey, I hit someone. Does this count?".

The server then looks over the info present, and tells both parties "Yup. That's a hit.", or "Nope. That's a whiff."

Then what follows next is pretty obvious.

But the key is that it bases this judgement prinarily from the Killer's end, which is why a laggy Killer can still hit you through a pallet despite it being down for at least a second or so.

This is also the reason that Killers frequently get "pallet hits", where you drop a pallet at the exact moment you get hit, even though the Killer was nowhere close to you. It's latency.

i think sometime soon they adding hit validation so its on both ends not only killer.

Yeah, EU server more than half the killers I come across (about two thirds) are using a VPN from all over. (: It's practically unplayable some days lol. They even defined it as cheating but refuse to punish for it.

The devs need to stop being useless on this topic and actually start banning people for using a VPN to cheat, because it's ridiculously common right now. It's not hard to tell, either.

You can't tell if someone is using a VPN (kinda the point of VPNs). Poor connection can also be from other factors. Not possible to ban people for it because of that.

You can. If their location is clearly not in the same continent (their profile is usually the biggest tell for this) as the server they're on, and they were laggy, it's very clear they're using a VPN. It's incredibly easy to pin this down.

The best part is that, because of the proximity of servers to Russian players, a lot of the time it's not actually a bannable offence because Russian players just have a naturally high ping. it's not their fault, or ours, it's just their location to the servers. Then we have to grin and bear it.

I've been playing with my American friend recently and even he agrees that we, in EU, have a problem with high-ping players, be it console or Russians or VPNers. It's actually sad.

I've literally just gotten out of a game with a Billy who chainsawed me around corners. Checked post game, Argentina, admitted to playing knowing he had high ping and tried to get to EU servers. :)

Yeah, with russians it's annoying but they're not cheating. The devs just refuse to give them a good connection so they get boosted up the ranks.

There's no way of telling exactly where they are (that's how VPNs work). Just because they're profile is different doesn't mean there using a VPN. You'd give false bans if you did that.

They can also have their profile in EU when they're in NA if they wanted to.

Server hit validation, when released, will help against this problem. You will never have "perfect hits" because latency is inherent to online networking. Going after VPN users (especially with such a ridiculously stupid method as "look at their profile") is a massive waste of time and resources.

Yeah sorry, I meant the server sided hit validation.

I am already kinda used to get hit 95% of the time when I drop a pallet, stun the killer but still get hit but today I had one match against a Huntress and I swear EVERY hatchet hit from her was pure bs. Best one was when I looped her around the yellow crane on Autohaven. I dropped the pallet at one point (she was behind it), I ran round the crane and ran upstairs and she hit me ONTOP of the crane while standing behind the pallet below.....

Hatchets are physics objects and should already be handled by the server. What's your average ping?
