Starting my DBD journey over, and I've noticed some things.
So, I've played on PS4 for the past 2 years. But, my PS4 bit the dust and doesn't work anymore (F), so yesterday a friend of mine got me an early Christmas present and bought me DbD on Steam. I got the silent hill edition along with a few extra DLC's blah blah blah, I've noticed some things.
- For one, hot damn the tutorial is terrible. Particularly the killer one. I understand that they can't have a tutorial for every killer (they should really just add a practice mode) but, the tutorial taught me how to: Swing, lunge, damage things, pick up & hook. Nothing else. The literal last thing it said was "Oh, btw every killer has a unique power! Here's 25,000 BP, go screw yourself!" They really, really need to update these. There was nothing about vaulting, nothing about breakable walls, nothing about Hex Totems or totems in general. The survivor one was a bit better, but only because it taught more of the basics. Healing, injured state, repairing gens. I don't think it ever actually taught me how to throw a pallet. Again, I've been playing this game for two years so I know how, but these tutorials are not new player friendly - especially in the loop-centric meta we have now.
- Secondly... Hoo boy, matchmaking. I played only two games so far, and already it's terrible. It shouldn't be bad for low-rank players who've had the game for awhile, much less people who just bought the game.
My first game was as Wraith, on Shelter Woods.
I got a 4k (and a DC for some reason) but only because I've played this game for so long. I had 1 perk going up against a person more than twice my current rank. Again, yes - I won, but only because I've been playing this game for awhile. A new player would have no chance.
My second game was Survivor on Pale Rose. Speaking of new players, I am 99% sure this huntress was new. She didn't even know how to break the pallet at first, she kept swingingat it. She only used her hatchets twice. Once when chasing me. She hit a tree. And again when the rank 20 with urban evasion was teabagging her at the exit gate. Oh, also, why is this new player going against a red rank?
Other than that... Well, the game runs better. It's a lot easier to lunge with a mouse. Also, everything is so loud. Particularly Wraith. I love that Bing Bong Boi, but he really needs a lozenge.

You know what's funny, I still see people defending the tutorial thing...

The only thing i can say is SWF

At this point, it would be better if their "tutorial" was just a link to some youtuber explaining the basics of the game.
That's where everyone learns how to play anyways.

I never realized just how bad it was. It's terrible. If it taught more, like how to counter looping or just loops in general, I have a feeling we'd have at least a bit less bloodlust gamers.

totally agree about the killer tutorial. They need to at least have a practice mode for killer powers, maybe when you ready up as killer it takes you to practice while searching for a lobby, since low rank killer wait time is always huge.
Good on you for offering friendly advice to the new killer.

It was at least somewhat obvious she was having a tough time. I didn't try to loop her too hard (I mean, even if I wanted to I'm really not used to the survivor controls, I kept bumping into everything) and I was tempted to just let her kill me but I probably need to get away from the lower ranks.

Really? I'm honestly not being sarcastic and saying you are wrong, i may have missed something as im not here 24/7, but every time the tutorial is mentioned, the general consensus tends to be that its about as useful as a chocolate tea kettle.

The tutorial is in dire need of a rework. I adopted steam after playing on switch for months so I feel your point. When you are not truly new it is painfully clear. DBD is learned the hard way and that is bad enough but if you don't realize why something happened without using google it is unacceptible. Things like going down from deepwound, trying to leave with an active RBT, staring back at Myers; I've seen that multiple times below green ranks. Even now while I'm back in red ranks on both sides I sometimes see these mistakes since I get paired with a green rank.
There is nothing about the status effects in the tutorial. Nothing about the killer powers, nothing about perks. I've been accused of hacking because they knew nothing about killer instinct.

Maybe we see different posts, but I've definitely had people try to justify the state of the tutorial before.

Wow, that must be a hard sell, because it really is pants...
