How does Hatch work

I had a Ghostface guarding the hatch, I snuck up behind him, go the prompt, jumped in the air to go through the hatch and he slammed it shut. Is this another lag issue or is that how it is supposed to work; even if the survivor gets to the hatch, the killer gets one more opportunity to shut it before you make it out?

I would like it to work like whoever escapes before it closes gets out, not the killer's actions after the action trump the survivor's actions.

Killer gets priority if you both attempt to use it at the same time

If you get the hatch your whole team is dead. The killer has got 3 kills. Would you care to explain how the killer needs a bone throne to him when he has already won?

He had not started the shutting animation. The killer was being a jerk and looking forward to shutting it when I found it. I caught him off guard, snuck up behind him. He did not see me until I jumped in the air to escape. My animation had already started. He closed it after I was already leaving, so his action canceled my earlier one.

The reason this change was made is because of hatch standoffs. I'm assuming you are relatively new to the game. Before this, if the killer swung, the Survivor could escape. If the Survivor tried to escape, the Killer would grab them. Both sides would literally just stand there staring at each other for up to 4 hours straight, it had happened multiple times.

If you saw him standing there, then you made a mistake, a missplay. The correct action was to GO DO GENS. If the Killer camps the hatch, the gens are free to complete. If he closes the hatch, the Gates get powered and you can open them. You literally played into the Killer's hands and you expect it to go any different?

If you did this before the change, he would have just grabbed you midjump and you would have died anyway. Literally nothing changed.

OK. This is what happens when you rely on the hatch. It's entirely your own fault.

It's the same order of priorisation as before the hatch changes, when the killer could grab a survivor out of their escape animation, if in close range.

And this seems only logical when the psycho killer gets in range they should be able to interfere with the escape up to a certain point.

The old mechanic was ridiculous when a survivor could stand at arm's length at the hatch and the killer could only infure/down them and then the survivor would escape during the hit recovery, when a killer would just grab his prey standing still in front of them.

Pretty new, I've been playing for only three years.

I had done three Generators, my team did 0. The hatch spawned between two close exit gates forming a triangle. I had carried the team. I am surprised you take the Killer's side, unless you are a killer main. The killer found the hatch and camped it since he was in easy reach of the two exit gates. He should have closed the hatch or hunted for me. Instead he camped all three routes of escape. I think camping the hatch by a killer is as toxic as tea bagging at the exit. Just play the game and don't try to add strife to your opponent's game.

Not a killer main whatsoever. The fact that people immediately turn to this argument when someone disagrees with them will always remain one of this community's greatest mysteries.

It's your own fault for not doing gens while he camped. You fell for the bait he set up and lost. That's all this is. Even if the exit gates were close together, you have a whole 3 minutes to open them during the collapse. Difficult, but not impossible.

Playing the game using intended mechanics is not toxic. Just because you don't like the tactic he used doesn't mean it's toxic. This term is so overused it's lost its actual meaning.
