A Nerf vs. Buff discussion
"The ultimate goal of nerfing and buffing isnt to balance, but to make a game that is fun to play and watch"
"Focusing on balancing too much can ruin a game"
This is the best video I have ever seen on the Nerf vs. BUFF discussion and uses many examples to demonstrate why it is so challenging to do.
More often it is smarter to BUFF, but coding wise it is easier to nerf.
I think this explains the constant teeter totter that this game is always on quite well

This would also explain why Overwatch is in such a bad spot. Both Dead By Daylight and Overwatch are focusing too much on balance and not what is fun. It's why the ultra-rare addons have been garbage recently: they're afraid of making something too powerful. It's like Demo. He's not strong at all, but everyone likes him cuz he's fun. Fun > balance, 100% of the time. A video game is supposed to be fun, not balanced.

Agree and disagree, what's fun for one side: Using DS aggressively or double stunning with DS or Pallets into Head On is incredibly frustrating for the other side, same can be said about Mori's or the "OP" killers like Spirit and Freddy. So in cases like that balance is necessary. Yes fun is ultimately more important but when things don't have consistent counter play they need to be balanced to create fun for both sides.

Oh, yeah. That's a given. Fun > balance 100% of the time, for BOTH sides.
I mean, Spirit is fine tho. I love versing a good Spirit. And no one likes stuns.
Fun should never be for only 1 side unless it's PvE, in which case go wild lmao

If something is fun but extremely weak or too strong people wont play it or against it, there has to be some level of balance incorporated into things or it is no longer fun.
like i enjoy playing as victor but because i get frustrated with how unviable he is and all the bugs i don't want to play him.

Right so the point of the video would be to buff Charlotte and victor instead of nerfing suvivors for being strong against victor

exactly, if they do anything tho it would be to reduce the time you have to crush victor by at least 1 second. 3 seconds is so damn long that one miss against good survivors results in you getting crushed, its ruthless.

Wait isn't balance also directly linked to fun?Its no fun making an greatly unbalanced game towards one side because one side would be miserable playing while the other side is having the most fun winning. A game should try to have the maximum amount of fun to everyone if possible.

I know this is a little off topic but Charlotte and Victor are fine as is if not straight OP for two reasons.
1. Facecamping with Victor
2. Injuring everyone and snowballing with Victor
You do either of these and you'll be quite deadly although its not fun at all to play against.

So, how exactly is playing against Hag fun? How is getting 3 moris in a row fun? How is not getting a single kill thanks to the sweaty SWF group with 2 keys you just gone against fun?
Overwatch's case has been analysed for years and it's really similar to DbD tbh. Players giving feedback and showcasing how many characters are underwhelming, but the vast majority will complain about how 1 character is overwhelming and BOOM, nerfed. Just look at the twins, they were classified as underwhelming and camping machines in the PTB and they werent buffed. Coup De Grace was said to be borderline useless so they nerfed it to just make it garbage :D The true balance relies on giving both nerfs and buffs

When did I say any of that was fun lol

apologies, i misunderstood. What's the point of this thread then? English is my 3rd language and I slightly struggle when comprehending texts

Its ok to look at the world and not understand it.
They prefer to nerf and rework things in DBD for balance instead of buffing things that are weak to deal with things that are strong.

1. There are multiple killer reworks happening right now and on a weekly basis someone makes a post asking for a killer nerf.
2. I play all killers, except the 4 I dont have.
3. They also just nerfed flashlights.
4. People need to realize asking for too many nerfs can hurt the game overall.
Anymore conceited questions you want to ask?

Bruh hag is my second favorite killer to go up against, right after nurse. They change up your gameplay, so they're more fun.

could you please elaborate on how to play against her i literally only come out alive if she's a potato hag

my recent survivor queue times on both pc and ps5 (haven't played much on either platform in recent months but played enough to get back to purple on ps5 while pc hangs around rank 14 iirc so have a feel between some ranges) tell me that killers must not be having alot of fun lately, or must be fearing they won't (on this game I don't blame them) so aren't playing killer enough to keep my queue times from sometimes approaching some of the lengths I had to wait for about the first week or so right after crossplay. I've been seeing rainbows again all the time on both platforms, both roles even, which doesn't tell me anything good about the amount of killers in all rank groups queueing up when I play.

I play against hag like i play nurse. You need to observe your opponent to see what they'll do. If they teleport instantly, double back the second you trigger a trap, and if they are actually good and DONT always do that, wait a couple seconds and THEN double back. It wont make you immortal, but you'll have a much longer chase. Also, if you didn't know this, crouch to the hook if you're going to unhook people.
