Let's say something nice about the Devs and DBD

I created this post because I think the Devs and this game needs some love and see we, players, can show a positive attitude. Why do I think that? Because each time I go on the forum, I only see people complaining, but I don't see a lot of discussions saying Thank

You guy are going to say that the game is full of bug and that the events aren't good as expected compared to those we had on 2018. Or maybe, why is this guy spreading love lmao

Because whatever how many people will complain, everyone knows that we'll keep playing at this game

So I think they deserve a big "Thank You"

Thank for having created the best game I know,

Thank to create such an amazing content, to do weekly lives and keep us informed.

Thank for keeping the fun in DBD

Thank for those amazing Community Managers & Moderator to be present on the forum (I mean, who doesn't like talking to them)

    Well, they're not Yandere Dev.

Agreed. I am sure the devs are good people. But the changes they have made and the issues they have ignored and continue to ignore (such as DS) has made most people incredibly frustrated. Just look at this chapter, it is a cluster of loads of bugs as well as an unfinished killer that is also bugged. Right now, appraisal is the last thing the devs need, they need critical feedback that they actually listen to community and core issues with the game. But you know what? They haven't, just look at the QnA stream they just had. They just ignored DS for the most part and of course dodged questions regarding this chapter; we can tell because there was not a single question about the negative impact of the new chapter. I don't mean to sound like those people on the forums, but they really do need to fix this game.

Krampus trapper was supposed to fix all the bugs. Did it not work for you? I've noticed hits through windows have been completely legit and dead hard works as intended now.

Not necessary to say man, he's aware the game has bugs, but if it was even half as bad as the complaints make it out to be, it wouldn't have the massive fan base that it does.

There is a constant stream of entitled complaining that im sure the devs and mods are sick of. Ya know, they've made good money. They could easily just stop supporting the game and work on a new development. I bet y'all would complain about that too. 70% of the people on this forum DO complain unfairly, not for "lulz" but because they can't come to terms with their own shortcomings and look for anything to shirk their losses on.

Its great when people report bugs, im happy that it happens because that's how the game gets better. But most complaints are "xyz bug / subpar release / balancing issue / quality of life issue has ruined the game. Im quitting/I'm owed something/the developers need to drop everything and bend to my whims". I'm so sick of seeing it.

If someone wants to s#!t on the dev team in this way, I say: "They made a game you love, otherwise quit and fade into obscurity quietly" But they don't, they keep playing, because its a fantastic game. Any game that has been out this long with this much new content added is going to have some constant fine tuning to do. Theres so many intricate moving parts with variations on how they were initially coded based on release date. I can only imagine how difficult it is to rework things, even if they were using UE's visual scripting.

Its a hard job. They deserve a break and a thank you every now and again.

They probably are nice and great people, but they've shown us countless times that they can be incompetent at fixing their own game and even directly insulting to us, the consumer's, by releasing content locked behind money to not even work.

There is no excuse to release content that doesn't even work and have the audacity to expect customers to buy it and even love it.

Praising them is just stupid, sorry OP.

    Blight is a good boi.

Seriously, great job with Blight. One of the most fun Killers in the game, and one of the most fun characters to play in a game. Bouncing and bashing could be its own genre of game and I'd probably love it. In the meantime, you gave us BouncyBoi.

    Zaytex Member Posts: 841

The fair side of the community will give them a break and a "thank you" once they listen to suggestions and release content that isn't broken.

You're basically saying "Hey guys, I know the developers have ignored our feedback, and have committed back to back atrocities countless times recently, and then just released a chapter you need to pay for but can't actually play, but let's give them a break and say thank you for them even trying, right?".

    No.

They're a multi-millionaire company now. If the developers are THIS incompetent, then they need to be replaced so content is actually playable on release, one little bug or so is fine, but 100+ is just pure incompetence, especially when the PTB clearly told them that they were there.

The game works just fine. There's plenty of functionality. You guys enjoy your pity party or take the code and fix it for them.

    "Game works just fine"

You mean how 5 out of the 6 new perks don't even work? Or how you can pull Victor out and have a pretty good chance of him being stuck in the ground?

HELL, the very first game I played in this chapter was on Ormond as Blight, and my power was bugged, so I couldn't use his rush at all.

But yeah the game's working fine right? Better give them some more money right?

Yeah I couldn't agree more. As others have said I'm sure the devs are good hard-working people, but whoever calls the shots over what gets implemented and what doesn't, needs to be fired. It's been over 4 years and heavily requested features like optimization, practice mode, quality matchmaking, etc, continues to fall on deaf ears. Not to mention the game still runs like it's in beta.

We're not hating on the devs because it's the "cool" thing to do, we're doing it because we want this game to be better. Not only does it deserve it, but so does the community.

Great job BHVR, you guys seriously rock.

Ignore the haters, they just think building a massive game like this is like building a Sims house. I see you and how you do the very best you can with the available resources and time while still releasing content on schedule (cause lets be honest, they'd complain about that just as much as bugs in a new release)

I really hope to work with all/some of you one day (I keep thinking about sending in my resume and portfolio, bit always chicken out because im self trained and live in the states)

@MandyTalk @Peanits , seriously, great job, great game, great company. Love the whole thing to death. Feel free to pass along the message to the crew

I will say I love the look of the updated Ormond map very much. I have misgivings about the tile changes but it is closer to that "mythical" balanced notion tossed about here.

Feel like you can say this about legit every single game i play but... well actually the Bloons TD6 devs are pretty great but anyway

The art team is great, the devs are nice people, but man do they do some dumb crap, but also 80% of the hate they get is so stupid and those illegitimate critizisms are not deserved.

  • chieften333
    chieften333 Member Posts: 1,554

Well the hate they've been getting is pretty well deserved right now. Considering they green lighted a patch that has, by many accounts, created hundreds of bugs ( I'm not joking, I made a list, and there are about 148 bugs that came out with this chapter)

While yes, they did say they are aware of the numerous bugs and looking into fixing them. The fact that this patch even made it out of internal testing is astounding. Then they give us 300,000 bloodpoints, which is nice and all, but it just feels insulting after the miserable state of this update.

As someone who is studying basic gaming stuff I can see how easy it is for bugs to exist and how sometimes completely unrelated things break ex Billy legion but that dosent excuse their business decisions even though I dont have any degree in business

It seems like bad marketing or business in general selling an incomplete product to consumers

But they are good at what they do like how many games have freddy, bubba, demo, ph, ghost face, ash, bill, in one game where they all work and dont seem out of place

  • Exerath1992
    Exerath1992 Member Posts: 1,035

Im not saying you guys are crazy or don't see actual issues. Sometimes the bugs get pretty bad. But they are uuuusually fixed pretty quickly.

My main point is that most people hating on the devs don't understand the intricacies of a game like this and how easily bugs crop up, and how hard it is to release new content without unbalancing things.

Here's a challenge, name one game that has all of the following:

-is maintained by an indie game company

    -has been out 4+ years

-releases content 4 times a year that has to interact with every aspect of the existing game, usually in unique ways

-doesn't have any bugs come out along with new releases.

    I'll wait

Lol, I'm not a mod, I just love this game and am a solo UE game developer who understands the plight. Im not sucking up, I just truly believe they deserve props.

As a former programmer, now in infosec, I know how difficult devs job can be on an average day. Most people don't realize that with every new bit of content released their job only gets harder. It's like juggling and every time a new killer or perk is added is like adding another ball to the already going loop.

I am thankful for the graphics update, which made a lot of maps more playable. I can only imagine how difficult such an overhaul must have been, even if just from a logistical point of view. Also, many of us keep forgetting we are still gettng new content for free, something that was unheard of 10, 15 years ago.

Im not at all trying to defend this aweful patch.

Im mainly talking about other patches, for example the doctor rework, the popular opinion there seemed to actually be that doctor was getting nerfed and it just astonished me,

they nerf Oni and say we will find the middleground in the next hotfix and people were soooo mad and they followed through.

Man people still complain that nurse got nerfed or that spirit/freddy got addons slightly nerfed.

The biggest one though was the ruin change which imo was good because that destroyed new players and was completely useless against good ones. And now that undying is out its in a much healthier spot.

I feel you on the business decision issues. I personally think updates should be more spaced out to ensure quality. But that's not the devs fault, that's the companies business decisions fault. They wanna make that money, artistic integrity be damned.

I think people forget what devs actually do. They are responsible for releasing the product their studio requests from them. The devs did an amazing job releasing this game. It's one of the most fun and interesting games on the market, which is why people get so upset over it. You can see the love put into this game initially, but unfortunately the studio itself has different priorities. I guarantee you if the studio put more recourses towards this game's problems the devs would release an amazing product.

The game is still fun, despite all the sheet going on right now.

Just ignore the Fire in the background, it's for visual purposes.

Heck no on rust, there's not 20+ unique powers or hundreds of perks that all have to interact with each other flawlessly. Rust isn't nearly as complex with interactions. Sure, theres a billion things you can do, but its very different on how things interact. I haven't played depth so can't speak on that.

You know the devs are the ones that make the game, but they don't get to choose their own timeline, nor their priorities. The people at the top make them push out things too fast sometimes, but the devs do a great job with the constant time crunch and limited resources.

In regards to the discourse surrounding the Binding of Kin bugs, here's my two cents:

Yes, it's very easy to wind up with a ton of bugs when you're doing things like making a new character in a game that's this unique or completely reworking several maps from more or less the ground up while keeping their basic framework around. These bugs existing isn't what the issue is. The issue is that they literally have public testing servers that exist for the express purpose of finding bugs and oversights and massive balance issues before new content hits live servers.

The Binding of Kin PTB launched a couple weeks ago, and several bugs were found. Most of the perks didn't work properly, there were all sorts of issues with totem locations in the new maps, the Twins were kind of buggy, and the build seemed very unstable overall. Then they said they'd fix the bugs, but they never did a second PTB build because the first PTB was literally a couple weeks before the chapter was set to release, and they knew that everything would get thrown off if they pushed the release of the new chapter back.

So what did they do? They pushed a version of the game to live servers that was even buggier than the beta version of the same exact update. Legitimately, it would've been better if they just put the PTB onto live servers.

Now, I don't think this was out of them being utterly incompetent or anything. It's more likely that they were scrambling to hit a deadline that they knew they had to hit or there would be hell to pay. This finally brings me to the point I want to make, out of all this: I believe BHVR is trying to juggle too many things at once. Here is a list of things they want to do all at the same time:

    • Create new survivors and killers every 3 months, and make 3 new perks for each character
    • Create new maps
    • Completely rework old maps to bring them up to snuff
    • Create new cosmetics
    • Create new rifts
    • Create new tomes
    • Make good seasonal events
    • Attempt to balance a combined total of 22 killers, 164 perks, and somewhere around 440 addons (plus one killer, six perks, and 20 addons with every new chapter)
    • Tweak killers who feel outdated or out of tune, sometimes to the point of giving them completely new powers
    • Fix the hundreds of bugs the game has, plus the thousands of new ones that crop up as they fix the old ones and make more content
    • Optimize the game

You can see why things are kind of perpetually a mess in this game. Personally, I think the healthiest thing for DbD would be to take some time to slow down on the creation of new content and just focus purely on getting the current content under control. It feels like the game is growing faster than they can keep up with, and I'm sure hiring more people to work for them would only help so much. There's too much for them to keep track of all at once, and they can only get around to making big changes to a couple of killers and a handful of perks every few months during the mid-chapters. This doesn't feel sustainable.

They have some pretty creative concepts for perks and killer powers, which is a nice thing (even if executed poorly at least it's not same old same old.)

Right, they should definately skip the next release and get all their QOL, graphical, and balance changes completed. Still a lot to do in 3 months (since they'll have to use the following 3 months for new content). Then get a b*t©#!n licensed killer and take it in. Something iconic like pinhead. Maybe a dark souls boss like slave knight Gael, soul of cinder, pontiff sulyvahn, the pursuer, capra demon, gundyr, etc. or a wicked bloodborne boss.

I really do appreciate your positive attitude I'm quite a positive piggy around these parts... But...

This should of been chapter should of been delayed and the anger coming from the community is rightly well placed as well.

Should they personally attack the devs no they shouldn't. But they have every right to be angry at a chapter full of bugs and voice their concerns.
