Why some Survivors get tunneled
At the beginning of the match, most Killers do "competence check" chases with different Survivors. The goal is to try to interrupt early gen progress and spread pressure before committing. During these early chases, Killers generally get a feel for the stronger loopers and the weaker ones.
If a good Killer is hard committing to you early on, they've picked you out as a weak link and plan on soft (or hard) tunneling you to make an early kill. It makes sense to prioritize Survivors based on skill level and also just by their overall hook progress. The obvious Rank 1s tend to get left in their chases and die on first or second hook. The obvious lower skill Survivors go the opposite way, the Killers commit and three hook them ASAP.
And that's why some Survivors get tunneled.

Honestly, I don't think like this.
I'll only consider tunnelling if its my only way to pull a game back (meaning the survivors are very very good) OR if the survivors DS me unfairly (59 second stun where I didn't tunnel you at all) OR bring a key.
Pretty much the only situations where I'll do it. If you're a strong or weak link, I could care less lol.

I personally only use this strategy when I can tell the team is competent. If the whole team is decent and I know it's going to be a well fought game. I'm going to need more pressure than just ending chases quickly. I'll make notes of every survivor during the game and of hook stages. Typically the least experienced survivors are dead on hook first. I'll kill them off at 2 gens if gens aren't flying and the opportunity arises. If gens are flying and that person isn't dead on hook I will tunnel them to get them out of the game. But I will never hard tunnel someone. In those games it will lead to 1 kill at most especially if they are on coms. But I see your point.

There is such a thing as being too good.
It's one of the more common swfs in low ranks that there is a strong looper trying to boost people by being a bodyguard/decoy.
I will generally ignore them, and find weaker links to kill instead of do what they plan.

I think that if the skill is so different between survivors, then we have a matchmaking problem (that's not a surprise, actually). And it's really not fun at all. As killer, most matches I don't really have to "sweat" to get a 3k... and I play really bad. But then again, I never went above green ranks.
But I don't know, I don't care about killing that much too. I good game for me is one with lots of scare jumps or one that I can get one or other chase right.
As tunneling may be efficient, it's just not fun. And I hate it when it happens to me as survivor (yes, I also play real bad as survivor... maybe I'm often the weakest link).

That’s the only thing to do. If it feels like a Survivor wants to be chased, its usually not a good idea. They totally might be the bodyguard trying to take the pressure off the weak links

I tunnel survivors sometimes because they just keep jumping in front of my weapon. Really. No other reason.
