The second iteration of 2v8 is now LIVE - find out more information here: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/kb/articles/480-2v8-developer-update

New Player - Quitting before I begin.

I really like the idea of this game - I get to play freddy or myers from my fav movies. They even have a Silent Hill killer!

I load into the game with my killer and thats where the game ends. Why do they call them killers when the "Survivors" literally run at you and have zero fear?

This is how a game goes for a new player - I realize that you guys don't really care about new players and take your marching orders from whatever twitch steamer, with thousands of hours tells you; but take notice.

STEP 1 = Locate a Generator you hear ticking and Chase Survivor

a) Pick which Survivor to chase while knowing the others will be right back on the gen when you start chasing.

b) Survivor uses Sprint/Lithe to widen the gap

c) Survivor jumps through a window and hits pallet after pallet after pallet - The tiles are so close that there is no way to catch up. (All this time they are teabagging Michael Myers or The Executioner? Where is the terror?!)

d) Survivor 360's you or dodges your attack

HIT!!! HOORAYYY (We go a hit, now we only need 1 more!! Oh it looks like they have done a few generators...)

Chase Survivor

a) Survivor uses Dead Hard to widen the gap

b) Get hit with multiple pallets

c) Survivor 360's you or dodges your attack

HIT (Got you!! You fool, you think you can stand up to likes of Freddy Krueger?!)

STEP 2 = Take survivor to Hook

Ok, I got my meat, time to age it on a hook, but oh no the...

a) Survivor Wiggles free by the time to get to hook

b) Hook is destroyed by another Survivor

c) You are body blocked by Survivor

d) You get pallet to the face and drop your Survivor

e) You are blinded by another Survivor's flashlight

((If any of the above happens, don't worry friend! Simply go back to STEP 1))

SURVIVOR IS HOOKED SUCCESS!!

But my goodness, there is no generators left! Well at least I got that guy who was so annoying with the teabagging - I can't believe it took so long to get him but I did!!

Normally, this is where I would say try to find another survivor in the time left, but there is no need good sir! Why not? Because they have been buzzing around the guy i just hooked liked flies. But how can this be? I AM A KILLER

No im not.

The guy gets unhooked as people bodyblock, use borrowed time, abuse the unhook animation. They run of to a gate which has been 99% - laughing as they leave.

Rinse and repeat.

Before people start saying "get better" or "chase someone else" - when someone has Object of Obsession and as soon as the game starts runs at you, knowing that they can abuse the killer, something is wrong. If you are telling new players to "get better", when they are chasing someone for 5 gens , its insulting.

=================================

Again, devs probly only care about those thousands of hours players who have established themselves in their ears.

How can we fix it?

I have though about different things like, stamina bars for survivors that will empty after X min. This means that they are slowed as they are out of breath and once this does happen, it would be after say 2 or 3 mins - enough to make the chase worthwhile for the teammates doing the gens.

All Perks for the Killers/Survivors you own are available at max rank from the start. They can only be used once and they cannot be used again until you have used every other perk. (Willing to say 90%80%). This means that people are forced to mix it up and use all the perks. It means killers dont always have hex ruin - survivors dont always have DS.

Chase Time effects how fast you die on hook. If you chase someone for 10 mins, they should be going straight into second hook or have an increased rate of struggle; you could even put skill checks instead of hammering space bar.

===========

I really hope someone see's this as I only ever see long term players telling new people to "get better", rather than admitting new killers don't have much fun.

Imagine I say Call of Duty is only for higher level players because I'm bad at the game. No, it's MY FAULT that I'm bad at the game. I get practice until I'm better. I used to be bad at DBD.

    So, git gud.

I'm really not gonna pretend this game isn't survivor sided but I honestly doubt they'd make all your suggested changes. For the time being you should just try watching youtubers or streamers play killer. Most of the time they're pretty good at explaining the game and it'll help you get better. I recommend you watch Otzdarva, he's a really good killer and if you try to pick up some of his tricks I guarantee you won't get bullied as easily. I agree though this game is a nightmare for new killers

Im sorry but please dont compare some FPS to an Asymmetrical game such as DBD. Cheers!

Ok, so... firstly I must admit that I'm surprised you're running into that kind of thing right off the bat. One thing I will strongly recommend is that while you're learning, avoid playing after ~7 PM EST. I'm not exactly sure why, but whenever I play after that time, I run into much better Survivors. Killer queue times are instant then... but... you're more likely to run into Survivors you aren't capable of taking down.

Secondly, as far as balance goes... this game has a big problem that the set of perks that killers start with for free are... mostly terrible. If you want advice as to which of the starting perks are actually good and which free killer perks to get unlocked asap... I can help with that.

Thirdly, which killer are you attempting to play? Depending on who it is, I may be able to give you some tips.

Edit: Fourthly, I would very very strongly recommend never playing on a killer who's below level 15. Having all 4 of your perk slots available helps so much. If you don't have one that high yet, play Survivor and throw blood points at a killer until you do.

I have found that Orzdarva is a Survivor shill - He said the other day about how Mori's needed a nerf. Sure if you are a big time streamer with thousands of hours in the game. He has lost touch with new players and is just focusing on abusing and min/maxing. New killers needed Mori to stand a chance or to even the odds against redrank SWF. If I see someone with a key - I brought a mori. A group of flashlights? Mori. 4 toolboxes? you guessed it MORI. Now I have nothing.

I don't understand what you mean when you say that Otz is a "survivor shill", he plays mostly killer. Just because he said an overpowered offering was overpowered and needed nerfing doesn't mean he's "shilling".

In regards to what Firebrand said about killers starting out with bad perks, there's a really good perk on the Shrine of Secrets right now called "Pop Goes the Weasel", it's for sure worth the 2000 iri shards if you have them. Pop is really good for defending gens.

Mori's did need a nerf, at high ranks if someone brought a mori the game would usually be over before it began. It just fed into the toxicity of the game. Otzdarva is still against keys and SWF making this game borderline unplayable for new killers, and he has tons of guides to help combat that. If you really wanna play this game for fun I recommend you play survivor because killer will almost always be sweaty. If you really want to have the easiest time possible and still play killer try using meta perks and play killers like spirit. Spirit can make most people just forget how to play and she gets tons of DC's. Just look up a spirit guide and you're basically good to go.

I've heard the complaints about profiles with single digit posts loudly announcing they they're leaving DBD, but this is ridiculous!

"I managed to outrun Freddy Kruegar for the full game because he is new" - How is this ever ok? Can you imagine explaining this game to someone who is new to computer games? They would not understand how Michael Myres is a laughing stock of the tbagging yoyos.

Spirit has a really high learning curve and to be honest - It would not matter. Most survivors just dont leave scratch marks or walk backwards. Its really impossible trying to fool any redrank, so why try? People refer to mindgames like they are achievable against these guys when it just is not.

Otz is so good at the game that he does not need things that new killers do - By telling devs "you should do this" - sure it makes games funner for the 3k hours guy - but the new guy, who does not have any shards and is buying all the new conent? he will just uninstall and play something else.

Now would matchmaking that ACTUALLY works help? Sure, a little. I have played a game called dota for about 15 years and if you have proper matchmaking, you will still get "smurf" accounts or people who purposely lose rank to club seals - but it will make those a rarity instead of every second game.

Pop goes the weasel is punishing for newer players like myself. It can regress a gen sure but - that survivor you chased of the gen has covered distance from it surely. Not to mention the time wasted going to find a gen to get your perksworth. If they miss a skillcheck, the gen just regresses and you cant use it too!

He plays killer so much that he cant see the woods for the trees. People will never get to his level and rightly so, they have lives outside of games. Do you actually know how long it would take to unlock every killer perk in the game?

I post mostly on steam forums but felt urged to take the leap in hopes that a useful set of eyes will see it.

I'm agreeing with you, red rank survivors being able to bully new killers because of matchmaking isn't okay, and basic mind games don't always work on a try hard SWF, but Spirit basically ignores the basics of chasing with her power. Her skill ceiling really isn't that high and that's why people hate her.

When Otz is asking the devs for changes it's usually to make the game better for everyone, and he really does take new players into account.

Just pick up Spirit and try using her good perks like sloppy butcher or stridor. As a red rank survivor myself I guarantee you it is very hard trying to outplay even mediocre Spirits with those perks.

Clearly, you are still new and just got unlucky with the trash "mmr" system we currently have. It becomes more manageable with experience, don't give up on this game just yet.

I will give it a go but im on the ropes man, I just want to have fun with my fav killers from movies :(

I completely get it man, I got this game because I love horror and was excited to see so many horror icons in one game. Maybe one day you'll be able to have fun playing those killers but for now you should probably stick to the easy stuff until you get better.

Or maybe you can settle for playing survivor horror icons like Laurie or Ash. Just do what you think will be the most fun.

Unfortunately, the game isn't well balanced for low or high level game play. It's balanced for mid levels (~Green ranks)

The game is, at its core, a time management simulator where you, the killer, need to make enough appearances before the movie is over.

In your example, you can just hit the survivor once and let them go. If the survivors don't respect you and jump right back on the gen? Defend the gen and give them all a slap. They'll fear you more if they're injured.

You're approaching the game with the wrong attitude. It's a PvP game where inevitably you'll find players better than you. You don't want to hear "git gud" but that's literally the solution. Remember that every good player was once a noob and had to endure and learn.

My advice to learn faster is to play both sides. Observing how others play a role teaches you a lot. There are also a lot of "educational" streamers out there (like OhTofu, Otzdarva and I heard FunGoose) that can help a lot.

    Otz is a killer main...

He has thousands more hours than you, and has the skill to defeat survivors without using Moris as a crutch. "Survivor shill" right buddy.
