Survivors, if you could change keys how would you change them for the sake of balance?

Member Posts: 2,187

I saw @Harrington's post on killer's opinions on keys, so it gave me this idea to ask anyone who has intelligent experience with the survivor role on what they think would be a good change (balance wise) to keys.

How would you change keys?

    Here's what I would do:

Don't touch keys. Leave them with the same functions they have now.

Instead, make the hatch only spawn when only 1 player is remaining. That still gives keys a good use for a single escape, but it also gets rid of the main frustration where multiple survivors get an easy escape

Yes. What I'm saying is that should be the only reason the hatch ever spawns. The hatch should never spawn when more than 1 player is alive.

MAYBE let the Skeleton Key let one person escape.

But overall, I would be pretty happy if Keys function for Aura Read and get buffed in that aspect (so that the purple and green Key have more Usage). Blood Amber can be nerfed or have a really high consumption rate.

But I think it would be neat if Maps are for environmental Aura Read and Key are for Player Aura Read.

If Keys still have a function to open the Hatch (for one person, with animation, whatever), the Add Ons to keep the Key should be removed/changed.

Skeleton keys: allow two survivors to escape, then hatch closes right behind them.

purple keys: allow one survivor to escape, then hatch closes right behind him.

    green key: still nothing lmao

purple/pink add on for key: allows an additional (or one if put on a green key) survivor to jump into the black lock upon opening. hatch remains open for an additional 15 seconds or until the maximum amount of survivors jump into the hatch.

Dull key allows last survivor to open the hatch once it's been closed by killer. Skeleton key allows 1 survivor to escape through the hatch once all the gens are done + what dull key does

i really can't think of any nerf keys would need. imo they're mostly already balanced since you have to put in a lot of work and sacrifice a teammate to get the hatch. The only thing i can think of is, keys can no longer be obtained from chests, only from bloodwebs.

Except there's an achievement for all 4 survivors to escape through hatch in one game.

I would just delete them and fix generator RNG so they don't spawn exactly in a cluster next to each other.

Anything that circumvents the base mechanics of the game are unhealthy for balance in my opinion.

This would be a serious problem, as changing Achievements on console is an extremely long & painful process with Microsoft and Sony, just ask the devs for details about that. It is part of the reason any change to Moris was comparatively simple but Keys would not be.

Any relevant Rift challenges would also have to be looked at, old ones as well as new.

Dull key: opens hatch in 16 seconds and notifies the killer that hatch is being opened via hatch aura. Only one survivor can escape. Consumed on use.

Skeleton Key: opens hatch in 12 seconds without a notification. Opens hatch for 8 seconds. Consumed on use.

Progress on unlocking hatch is reset if cancelled early. Addons all focus on mind channel.

Make it to where when a survivor starts opening the hatch with a key, their aura is revealed to the killer and the killer's aura is revealed to them. (Basically object) When a survivor starts opening hatch, the killer gets a noise notification.

The hatch takes somewhere around 20-30 seconds to open, so timing when to open hatch is important. If the survivor successfully opens hatch, they will escape the trial. But hatch will close behind them and despawn for the rest of the trial. So that the hatch can really only be used once.

Maybe this is a bit extreme. But I feel that it's fair. It would be a choice you have to make. Either be a team player and stay in the trial, or escape with a key and put the rest of your team in danger.

Add a 10 second animation and give the killer a notification when the hatch is being opened.
