Buffing some teachables | The Trapper

Welcome to my new series where I try to buff weaker Killer perks! Starting with The Trapper's perks.


Unnerving Presence

Your presence alone instils great fear.

Survivors within your Terror Radius have a 20% greater chance of triggering Skill Checks when repairing or healing.

Triggered Skill Checks' success zones are reduced by 40/50/60% and Great Skill Checks don't give any bonus progression.


Brutal Strength

Your great strength allows you to shred through your prey's defences.

Destroy dropped pallets, breakable walls and damage generators 15/20/25% faster.


Agitation

You get excited in anticipation of hooking your prey.

While carrying a Survivor, your movement speed is increased to 4.4 m/s and your pick up speed is increased by 5/10/15%.

    Unnerving Presence: Pretty good buff, but it'd still be kinda niche (If you wanna make it meta cause good skillchecks to have a small regression :P). The great skill check part is a nice touch.

    Brutal Strength: Already a pretty good perk, but I don't see why an extra 5% would hurt.

    Agitation: This'd be a great change. The pick up speed is my favourite part of Fire Up and I'd love it if another perk actually changed it. I'd make it a 20% increase personally. I'd run Agitation so much more often, it's already a really good time-saving perk and these changes would make it even better.

    Not gonna lie, Brutal Strength and Agitation are already very good perks. I'm not sure they need buffs. That pickup speed buff and maybe a matching hooking speed buff on Agitation would be much more welcome over on Iron Grasp. Seriously... that perk needs some help.

    Now, as for Unnerving Presence. I had typed up a large paragraph about how the current one can help Survivors. Then I reread your suggestion and you got rid of the Great Skill Check bonus. So... yeah, I like it. Good buff. Still could help Autodidactic, but like no one runs that, so its fine.

    Unnerving presence is bad, but this is a good buff.

    I feel like brutal strength could be buffed to 30%.

    The agitation buff would be a bit nice to have.

    Overall I like your suggestions however I feel that even if the effects were good they do not belong on the perks. The main issue is these perks are either outdated in concept with the current game or they need other perks to assist them even being used. Below is just a few observations and opinions.

    Unnerving Presence needs a survivor within your Terror Radius to trigger however most of the time once a survivor sees the UI icon pop up they either stop working on the objective, leave the area or ignore it. While it's true the value increase would help the perk it's still purely RNG and most of the time if you're approaching a survivor on a generator you're shooing them off of the objective. Agitation is an old perk that increases Terror Radius while carrying a survivor and in my view it was designed like this because of Unnerving Presence. I feel an overall rework on Unnerving Presence would be better than just value changes.

    While I'm fine with buffing the numbers I feel that the effect should either linger when a survivor leaves your terror radius (As with all Terror Radius perks personally) or Unnerving Presence should proc on a cooldown the moment a survivor enters your Terror Radius and then function normally as is. What I mean by proc is the moment you approach a survivor bringing them into your terror radius a skillcheck should proc if they're working on a generator or healing someone.

    Regarding your suggestion specifically I don't agree with Unnerving Presence disallowing progression with Great Skill Checks. I feel that's ignoring the main issue with the perk and it's unnecessary.

    Regarding Agitation I don't agree with giving it faster pick up speed. If anything that's a trait better suited to Iron Grasp but I don't like the idea of perks doing many things because it waters down the perk. However I'm on the fence about this because of how BHVR designs perks. Unnerving and Agitation (And to an extent Distressing) go hand in hand as does Fire Up and Blood Warden. I would prefer perks not needing to combo with other perks in order to be useful personally.

    Brutal Strength is fine imo, especially since pallet breaking speed was buffed back then.

    Agitation change I really like, I don´t see the point of an increased TR while using this perk.

    Regarding Unnerving Presence, I don´t think the removal of bonus progression would be neccessary. In my opinion the chances of triggering a skillcheck should be a little bit higher than currently, but the only change I feel it could really use is the removal of the HUD warning, it´s a massive detriment and limits the value of the perk mostly to Doctor players.

    I mentioned it above in my post but likely at the time the additional Terror Radius buff on Agitation was to combo with Unnerving Presence is my honest guess. BHVR would have to clarify on this honestly.

    I guess you´re right. A relic of old, so to say, when players had still sometimes difficulties hitting skill checks.
