The matchmaking nighmare
Just a little suggestion to tighten the matchmaking requirements. Me being a rank 7 killer player should not be going up against all rank ones or vise versa. Some games I go up against grey and yellow ranks. If I am facing all rank 1s, I'm going to get destroyed, if I am going against survivors that do not know how to use pallets, then they are going to get destroyed. I know a lot of people complain about this, but I think this should be at the top or the dev's to-do list, or people that are just staring this game will uninstall when they are playing a sweaty nurse or similar. I know I almost did.

I'm a level 16-18 killer who only plays for an extremely rare daily challenges and the rift challenges. I get purple ranks in 99% of my games, along with frequent SWFs, where 2 people are running BT, a flashlight or two, and someone has For The People. Red ranks in my games are not uncommon either. I'm not even trying to get kills or improve, I just want to get my challenges done and get out. It's a miserable experience.

I imagine it's difficult to balance the matchmaking, especially since it would increase queue times. So, what do people want? Long queues and fair matches? Or quick matches and short queues?
I'm willing to bet the foremost issue is there aren't enough killers and it seems as if gamers are getting turned off from the killer role. I could be wrong, of course, I don't know the hard numbers.

As a relatively newbie killer (rank 17, less than 100 hours all up and I started as pure Survivor) it seems a bit of a vicious circle. Bad matchmaking discourages new killers which means less new killers which means longer queues which means worse matchmaking....

^ Yup, this. The devs prioritize getting players into matches over those matches being any fun. So, if queues are too long, the rank requirements get more and more lenient until you've got red rank survivors against a rank 17 killer. This means new killers get absolutely stomped and fewer new killers stick around. Fewer killers means longer queues... vicious, vicious cycle.
This is conjecture, and there's definitely more to it than just scaring away new killers, but that has to be part of it.
