After a hiatus from hillbilly I've come back to him, what in the absolute [BAD WORD] are his addons?
As the title says I came back to billy after maining blight for a while. I was aware his addons were pretty bad, but after reading their descriptions... just why? Some of them are at least ok, with some actually being good. but who thought in any world that the rest would be useful?
Black grease- moderately accelerates chainsaw cooling rate when a flashlight is shining on you.
( who shines a flashlight on you long enough for this to be have any sort of use?)
Tuned carburetor- moderately decreases chainsaw charge time, but makes you a 4.4 killer.
( all they had to do was make his charge time addons not stack, but now you have to actively hobble yourself to get benefit from charge time )
Mothers helpers- slightly reduces chainsaw charge for 30 seconds when stunned by a pallet
( it's... ok? But most of the time the timer will be halfway over by the time you get back to the survivor. They could add an extra 10 - 15 seconds to make it more useful. But you have to get yourself stunned for it to work, again you have to actively hobble yourself to get use out of charge time )
Beyond those a decent amount are related to stealth for some reason. Some of them work well but they also rely on survivors not having spine chill. My guess as to why they made them stealth based was to put it in line with his lore. Which is cool and all, but addons should be made to be useful, not just to fit in with lore.
Also did they mess with his steering? It felt fine before his update, but now it feels a lot more constrained, even when using steering addons.

The devs tried reeeeeeeeeally hard to think of addons that didn't just give straight numbers buffs and didn't think hard enough.
In a couple situations, at least.
Leafy mash plus muffler's goofy fun, but what the h e l l is that black grease?

I personally find that Billy is definitely one of the killers that doesn't really need addons. And if you use some of them in conjunction it is really nasty. Also his steering got more constrained from both the feel and the look of him.

I still remember when the devs said that they liked where hillbilly was as a killer. Then proceeded to add needless resource management on top of giving his addons a kick in the nuts for good measure.
Then in a later statement they changed their stance completely. Saying hillbilly needed to be changed to be more fair. ( for the instasaw addons it was understandable, but the rest is still absolute bullcrap to me )

He got Nursed, sir/madam - He got Nursed.

Tuned Carborator really did get done dirty, but in defense of the two, the Oni at least doesn't have access to his power at all times like the Hillbilly does.

I have had success running mother's helpers with spirit fury and enduring.
Can be pretty funny when the pallet explodes in their face and you're already revving your chainsaw.

Oh I know, don't worry.
I've experienced the joy of scalped topknot + crutch firsthand.

Most of billy addons are garbage, believe it or not some of the best ones are brown and yellow, I know engravings are amazing too but depends on how good you are.
I love using one brown addon that makes it so it takes longer to overheat and engravings.
Yes steering got messed up, feels harder to play as, stealthy billy is not the style that I like, worse animations, the annoying roar etc.
Billy got nursed but at least nurse is still very strong, billy now feels like a chore to use since you need to keep an eye on the overheat, rev bar, and survivor.

They destroy killers when they give them such ######### add-ons. That's why nobody plays Hillbilly or Demogorgon. They have like 2 good add-ons and that's it. Hillbilly has more than that, but those would be the cooldown add-ons which shouldn't even be a thing because overheat is an unnecessary and poorly thought-out mechanic that nobody asked for.

Worst part is that on PTB billy was unplayable, then it was perfect then they said no, people are still having fun using him!!! None of that in my game!!! I was a billy main and I now know how Nurse mains felt.

Carburettor actually gives you more reduction. It's 20% whereas spark plug was 18%
I'm not necessarily fond of the change but I understand why they did it. The ptb made everyone overheat too much then launch had no one overheat. The current overheating is hard to overheat but not impossible which is where they originally intended it to be be.

Yeah, the ones that nerfs base speed and affect overheating are all trash, its pretty sad. But the stealth ones can be good. They don't help when he's actively chainsaw sprinting because of his "rebel yell", but the one that hides chainsaw sounds outside your TR are great. When I run tinkerer or insidious its PERFECT if you precharge and feather the power before you come around a corner while you have undetectable, so you can catch them off guard the second you see them

I also like the one that lets you charge through pallets. If you're going after an injured survivor using your chainsaw is usually somewhat pointless but when a cheeky injured survivor pre-drops a pallet and you go right through it and down them... *chefs kiss*

I mean, Oni's supposed to be kinda busted IN his power. The entire counterplay to the killer is to play well and not feed him early game so he doesn't get his power. I don't really think his actual power being really damn good is a bad thing. If your team feeds, separate and hide.
I'm saying this from a survivor's perspective btw. Any time myself or my team plays safe in the early game, wasting a lot of his time getting hits, he has so much less wiggle room to snowball. You just have to be good at looping and understand that greeding ######### and being risky can lead to your entire team being downed way too early in the game. Even if Oni has Topknot, this is what makes him fun to play against. You actually have to be good.

I remember trying to do crack Billy with his new add-ons. Didn't go well. I thought it would be fine but you're also 5% slower whilst revving the saw, so using the chainsaw for the curve mindgames around loops is almost impossible because you're so damn slow while revving. You should just run both engravings, it's not worth it at all.
Also I've been watching some old DbD clips and compilations and it's still so painful to see how much of a joke he looks like now in comparison to the Billy we had a year ago. I'm sort of used to the way he looks and animates now but it's still objectively worse than what we had before, and whatever they did to him was such a colossal ######### up that they refuse to ever address. But whatever, were stuck with it now I guess.

Not looping a Blood Fury Oni, looping an early game Oni that has no power yet. Delaying his time as much as possible while sticking on gens as he tries to get his first hit is very effective. It's STILL possible to snowball because of his strength, but you give him so much less room to do so and give your team a lot more time to recover after being hit with a good Blood Fury (which you CAN still hide out if needed). This is in no way me saying Oni is a bad killer, I love playing him and I love playing against him as he's very challenging and strong, but that's why he's a well-designed, top-tier killer even with Topknot.
I mean, even in Blood Fury, it definitely has counterplay (but then it's a lot more map dependent and much tougher), but the structures that work against him become a lot more limited (as you said, long walls are much more playable for him with Topknot).

It was still better after the PTB since billy got another nerf which is the one we have now.
Basically went: normal billy, PTB billy, good Billy and the current version of Billy.
I just hate double engravings now, the past nerfed Billy was still great with them now it's very punishing.
