Questions for Learning and New Players

What's it like to have to have all the good perks locked away from you? How does it feel when you get stomped and made fun of, but have no idea what you could've done to counter or approach the situation? What's it like when you manage to win but still manage to depip without understanding what you did wrong?

These aren't rhetorical either, I'm asking these, and if you're experienced and remember your time as a new player, please answer too.

Well I remeber I was looking up to shrine of secrets if there interesting perk appears. It was before shop and devotion was implemented, so perks was cheaper and we didn't have another way to spend shards. And I leveled up survivors with interesting perks first to unlock it on my main Dwight. I was survivor main back then.

Then I started playing killer, shards earning was changed. And I bought and unlocked all characters and get all teachables even if I didn't really need those.

I felt like I was stomped most because I have weak potato pc with 15-20 fps, and not because I didn't have sertain perks. I had to look down when I run, to get more fps when I needed. And I loved indoor maps because there I had 30 fps, so games felt more comfortable.

Can't answer exactly, but it's SO SAD to play with friends who are new. They have no perks, no clue what's going on because the tutorial sucks, and they're faced with a grind so grindy you'd think DBD was a F2P game (it isn't)

It's absolutely insane how terrible the new player experience is!

  • It's pretty abysmal; but I mean we already understand there are many failed elements to this game. DBD is, at it's core, a poorly developed game. It's just the only one of its niche, so it's more of a "get used to it or play something else" kind of game.

Me starting off in this game was... Odd. I started off trying out each free killer to see which one I enjoyed the most. Huntress and Nurse ended up being the ones I enjoyed... partially because I skipped the killer tutorial so I didn't know how to lunge.

Anyway up until rank 16 things went well. I got newbie Survivors who couldn't dodge and couldn't find my Lullaby or Thrill. Then at rank 16 I started getting greens who could do both and got wrecked and didn't know how to get better.

So... I switched to Nurse. I knew going in that she was very difficult. I got bodied a lot. However I kept going because I'd occasionally pull off really awesome blinks and that was fun enough to keep me going.

Eventually I got my hands on Legion. That went significantly better than Nurse. However this is when I started feeling crunched with not having perks. It wasn't *too* bad because Whispers, Thana, Enduring, and Brutal is decent on Legion... But that requires getting teachables from 3 other killers which I didn't have at the time.

I will say that the killers base set is in dire need of upgrades. If I had gotten Legion earlier than I did, I would have had zero perks to work with.

I thought it was fine when I first started, although that was just after clown was released so it was a while back. Claudette and Meg both have perks suitable enough for beginners to play to some level of effectiveness. Old ruin was bullshit though as a beginner. I also felt that I was supposed to eventually lose as a survivor as I'd never seen any Yoube videos telling me that I was supposed to bully the killer. The inevitability of my eventual demise gave me comfort until I eventually managed my first escape.

I did my research for killer. I levelled up Leatherface and Hag so I had the two best beginner perks for killer. That was sufficient to do well. The first time I chased an Ace into the killer shack, he started pointing at me through the window. I thought I was doing something wrong so I turned around and left.

I started as a survivor with a much more experienced SWF team. Sure, SWF is an easy mode, but the rank differences were quite huge, meaning that I encountered much more skilled killers than I could handle. It was a rough start and I usually died fast. Still lots of fun from the start. Didn't understand much about the perks and usually just picked quite randomly something.

I started to play as killer later (and I'm still new at it) and it was way more brutal. You don't just fail, but often the failure is rubbed in your face with all that tbagging and postgame comments. Very unwelcoming experience indeed. I would have been fine with 0k but is it really necessary to tell new killers they suck?

I wish someone would've told me to pay attention to the red light in front of killer, the more you can avoid it the longer the match will last and your survival odds increase with how long you can keep the chase music in your rear. I wish new players could get this information in a tutorial 5 years ago.

The best thing you can do is try to have fun and learn each match, and don't care too much about the outcome.
