Why does this happen so often to me?
I’m fixing a gen but the killer is coming so I need to go hide. However, as soon as I let go of the button to stop the repair a skill check is initiated and the damn gen blows, naturally alerting him to my presence. I figure it’s just coincidence but... WHY?!!! For the love of all that’s holy. It doesn’t happen all the time, but definitely more than it should.

I firmly believe there's a mechanic in this game that will detect the worst possible moment to give you a skill check as soon as you let go of the gen.

If it makes you feel better the killer probably heard the generator being worked on as he was approaching you.
...that said it still happens to me and I've been doing survivor a long time. It's just one of those things.

It happens to me all the time.

Or match the sound for hooking and the skillcheck sound at the EXACT same time

That was just an example of when it could happen, it isn’t what led me to post this discussion. It’s also happened when I let go of the gen to save somebody, too.

Yes, the safe point to let go is immediately after succeeding in a skill check. The other time you usually get a skill check is at the same time someone gets hooked, so their hook sound masks the skill check sound and it's like getting surprised by a 5 stack Lullaby hex - you blow the gen.

Unlucky.

Heartbound up there is right, probably they already heard the gen noises, or saw the sparks. I went on a break from the game for a bit, came back, and saw that gens now do that? My mind was blown. And then I played killer and realized just how easy it is to see on a dark map.

YES! This is happening at least once every two or three games for me.
@Topic:
The "Let go of a Gen and it explodes"-thing is in the game for months or even over a year. They fixed it at some point over a duration of like 3 weeks (or I just got very lucky).
They should give the ability to do the Skill Check, similar to Overcharge. If it really needs to show up at this point, it should not be auto-failed at least.

Again, very beside the point. Whether or not the killer heard anything is totally irrelevant to the problem.
