Part of the problem is an SWF group will be purple and/or red ranks and bring in a low rank friend which can draw a lower ranked killer. It's a broken system. I've seen red ranks bring a 17-20 in and as expected it ruins the match.

Bhvr in their infinite wisdom thinks it’s a good idea to allow red rank survivors to be able to smurf with a brown in swf to grief low rank killers.
Its doing wonders for the killer population.
nice job bhvr

FWIW rank basically doesn't matter in this game. It's more of a "how much have you played the last few months" badge than anything reflective of someone's skill. If you're in the red ranks, it doesn't necessarily mean that you're good, but it does mean that you play a decent amount. So, while red-ranked players are likely to be more experienced, there are a massive amount of potatoes up there.
If you're playing against red ranks as a rank 14 that's probably a really poor match, don't get me wrong. I just don't want you to look at a higher rank and feel like you never had any chance; even when everyone's the same rank it's pretty much just luck of the draw if it's the matchmaking is good or not.

This should get better when MMR comes back at least.

That wouldn't explain what OP is seeing, and it's certainly not widespread enough to be actively hurting the killer population.
Previously, when a rank 1 and a rank 20 queued, they'd get matched with a rank 1 killer. That was a terrible system because the rank 20 almost always torpedoed the squad and had a bad time because they were substantially worse than the killer. High rank players basically couldn't play with any new/newer friends because anything outside of KYF would be a bloodbath. To address this, now, if a rank 1 and a rank 20 queue, they'll probably get matched with a killer that's green rank. Short of MMR, this is pretty much the most balanced thing you can do. One of the survivors is on average going to be stronger than the killer, and one is on average going to be much weaker. Seems fair to me.

i bet you are one that enjoys getting in a swf with a smurf and griefing low rank killers, then coming on the forums and spouting “rank doesn’t matter”. In the same nonsense you say “That was a terrible system because the rank 20 almost always torpedoed the squad and had a bad time because they were substantially worse than the killer”.
see how you try to invalidate rank so your defense of smurfing is ok, but then directly after you readily admit rank does matter because the killer has skill.
please spout your nonsense somewhere else.

I have never done this as a survivor and I also don't think I have ever encountered this as killer.
Rank 20 players have almost certainly not played more than a few hours of the game. It could even be their first match. They are at a massive disadvantage versus even the most boosted of Rank 1 potatoes because they lack even basic knowledge about the game. That same thing is not necessarily true when comparing a rank 14 to a rank 6, or something. The rank 14 could be a relatively new player with like 10-20 hours, or they could be a 2000+ hour god-tier player that had just taken a break from DBD for a few months. Even in all red rank matches, rank is useless. Some red ranks will be extremely good players, while others will not have an ounce of game sense but have made it to red ranks regardless because they just play a lot. That's what I mean when I say "rank basically doesn't matter".
No need to get mad - we can all be calm here :)

Being able to queue with someone with that much of a rank disparity is nonsense. I'd love to have the ranks displayed in the lobbies again so I can decide if I want to have a fun match or not.

Yeah, it's not ideal, but in a casual game I'd argue it beats discouraging people from playing with their friends who just bought the game. Killers usually benefit from rank disparity too given the benefit they get from removing a survivor from the match early, so I don't think it's such a big deal.

It's so impressive that these friends at rank 20 that have just bought the game know every window and pallet location, hug walls flawlessly and can flashlight save with perfect precision.
I guess they watched a Noob3 video on YouTube while they waited for the game to install.

Yes we know, I think BHVR knows this as well but they lack both the experience/ability to develop a functioning system, and the player volume to accommodate it.

I'm rank 16 killer and I keep getting swf that are high ranks with maybe one low rank or they're all green. And then get bullied with flash lights whenever they pallet stun me or I break the pallet. It's so annoying.

I have literally never faced a low rank player like this. Some of it is that I'm a high rank killer so I'm not getting matched with those players anymore, but still - my buddy will stream his rank 20 killer matches for me and the survivors he's been matched with have been nothing but adorable lil' potatoes.
I'm not trying to say that smurfs don't exist, just that it's clearly not rampant enough to be an issue. The game costs $20, so it's not like you can just make bunches of smurf accounts for free.

You can create accounts on console for free and they have access to the game and all the dlc.

Wouldn't that only apply to DLC purchased with real money and not unlocked in game via shards? I didn't know this was possible regardless, but still, I don't think this is being commonly abused. I play on PC but I have not encountered this once since crossplay was enabled. I don't think most people would give up making progress on their main accounts just for some easier matchmaking, especially since unbalanced matches aren't fun... They'd pretty much have to be content creators who play on console and who are trying to make a montage or something. Otherwise it makes no sense.

The system needs to go off your best survivor. So if thats a red you get a red killer.
This game only favours survivors.
Swf needs nerfing to balance the game.

I playing a level 1 killer with 1 perk atm. It's putting me against 6,7,8,9.
There is 0 match making in this game.
Should see how fast the gens arw popping. Devs dob't care. Devs don't care about killers in my own opinion.

I hope they do fix the rank system and the matchmaking. The rank system actually makes no sense to me personally, rn I am a level 10 and I was being paired at level 13 with level 5, 9, 20, etc. Like it was just completely random and it makes no sense as it ends in either other survivors or the killer getting frustrated.

I always feel terrible when I, as a rank 8 survivor, get paired with 2 red ranks and another purple, against a rank 16 killer or some ######### like that. The game ends before they even get two hooks usually, and nobody pips or are happy.
