The Rift is unbalanced

I completed 1/2 the challenges in the rift, but only got to tier 32. If we just double 28 cus of the 4 lvls for completing the rift we get to 60, which still wont complete the rift and will be -200 auric cells. There is a lot of value in the battle pass, but that is only if you are able to grind about 250 hours ish. It is kind of insane how bad this progression is for players and the devs are just ending up losing potential profits through making the pass less appealing by making it feel unobtainable.

People buy things based on perceived value of an item and in perspective to the total value of the item. So when you buy a bundle for 10$, and then you do not get the entire bundle you just lost part of that $10 value. If players don't see that special something they want, and they for sure will not recoup their battle pass they'll more than likely avoid the rift. Especially when you consider the reward track is so heavily weighted on the end of the pass which becomes harder as you get the easy levels out of the way with the challenges.

I'd imagine less than around 5% of the monthly players who complete the challenge tiers even buy the premium pass just because the rewards are too unobtainable. My assumption isn't just 1/20. It's 1/20 of the most active fans of the game which is probably another pretty low percentage.

It feels like BVHR would want players to buy the pass and hopefully spend the recoup currency on skins over the 3 months, then buy back in next season. Even if players only had to complete the challenge pass to fully complete the reward track BVHR only stands to make money on the one time buyers and them just only buying the pass after that.

I do see the value of rewarding the most diehard fans who can manage to make it to the end of the pass. If it takes 250 hrs over 90 days, then the average hours per day every day is 2.777 repeating of course. That is 1/8th of a day, 1/5.76th of your waking hours give or take, and 1/2.88 of your free time if you have a job or go to school not counting travel time. Pretty steep for an every day requirement, and it only ends up hurting the company by making the product less obtainable.

I only buy the passes when I know I can make it to tier 70. Yes it is a lot of grind, but it isn’t so bad if you were planning on playing a lot anyways. Some people can’t do that, and that’s understandable, but the rift isn’t for them. There’s a lot of things in life that happen in which you cannot participate in. It sucks, but that doesn’t mean that these things should have to change to fit your lifestyle. I mean, I’d love to club hop and go to rock shows in the middle of the week like I used to back in my 20s but I can’t.

Yeah, the DbD pass has way to much grind in it. Even f2p games have less grind. Which makes you think, since DbD is a full price game (even though it's often on sale).

It's really weird that dbd isn't a f2p game yet, very grindy in general, the rift is a grind, lots of skins that are very pricy, lots of DLCs that take lots of grinding if you don't think of ever buying them for real money, and that's when you don't include the licensed characters, the bloodweb.. yeah everyone knows it's a big problem.

In my opinion, they should make the game free, it takes such a long time to get a few characters you want for shards, that you'll eventually buy them anyways. This review I saw also agreed on that it should be f2p, and did the math that getting all character dlcs can take around 150 dollars, if you don't wanna grind shards for your entire life, so if you want to get the "entire" game, you need 150 dollars + the 20 dollars you paid for the game itself, crazy ain't it?

But again, this is behaviour, if the game becomes free, how much more grindy would they make it, cause they can easily make it an excuse of "But we made it free, it's totally normal and allowed to make the game even MORE grindy, right? I think we did a pretty good job."

Welp, back to spending the 200k BP we got for like 4 levels, thanks alot behaviour.. Or that measly 10k per day thing we get, I'll spend that to use it on an eboni mori that I was forced to buy.

I'm unsure of f2p passes but I believe you they are less grindy, hopefully they fix these passes soon.

The fact I now have to pay to get the Legion Community skin is kind of trashy considering the artist doesnt get a cent of it.

It's been a busy month. Match making has been trash taking 5-15 mins for solo. It's really hard to do a challenge with every killer tunneling and face camping in order to get THEIR rifts done too leading to 1-4 minute matches, leading back to that 5-15min queue time again...

That and I've honestly lost a lot of passion for the game and haven't played as much, however the previous listed reasons for being 'behind' on the rift are also why I'm not enjoying the game at current.

It's tedious. It's not fun. It's the opposite of fun. I'll buy out the pass only as far as the last Legion cosmetic part and then I think I'm done even launching it for a bit...

No, making the game f2p would flood the servers with throwaway hack accounts. What i also don´t get is the overall grind. Imagine a new player who sees the amount of DLCs and locked content. The sheer time it would take to get all the required perks.

Indeed, I like Rockstar's approach to passes. Albeit they lowered the payout of gold you get back this pass. The gold can be earned back though through normal gameplay so its not a issue. The way they do it actually encourages retention and doesn't require anywhere near as much time invested if you are actually doing stuff while you play.

I just completed all challenges the other day and I am at level 65 almost 66. Been playing after maxing out for a few days.

I tried to play at least one match a day to optimize my time invested making use of the daily bonus exp that translate into rift shards. The grind still persists and I don't wanna invest the time to finish the rift besides the daily exp.

It’s on the free track so you didn’t have to pay for that skin in particular

So you only did killer or survivor side. the rift is designed to get players to play more than what they normally play. i got all but one challenge and i ended up at tier 56. two rifts ago i got to tier 61 before the shards ran out. i'm currently at tier 61 so i'm on track to get tier 70 at the end of the rift and i don't play dbd all that much. I'm sorry you are hurt over this but you just want to be given things for free, I on the other hand want to work to get what I get. I won't spend the shards to get the pass till i know i'm poised to hit 70. i've gotten 5K cells back and this is already the 5th rift.

the artists knew what was going to happen. either the skin was going to go on the rift (best option) or go for sale. I am sure there is a contract for this. i'm soooo sorry you didn't want to play to get the skin, but you know what? that's your decision and thus your fault. There is a bit of a grind but not too bad. rift 1 and 4 had a huge grind, rift 2 and 3 were almost perfect honestly. this one is some where between those two groups and it's not bad. you just gotta play to get what you want.

I gave up on the rift like 2 rift ago. Quality of it is going downhill as well as the grind for it (nerfing fragments given for the rift by challenges).

This game isn't getting any more money from me. Not for a rift pass, not for skins and not for DLC.

They offered 10 gold bars return if you got the battlepass in RDR2 in the first week. If you didn't get it first week, you only get 30 bars back instead of 40.

I want to buy the battle pass. I want to be able to complete it without playing this game every day. I'm down to put money in, but not for 1/2 a battle pass.

BVHR loses because people will not buy 1/2 of something for full price, and players lose for not being able to use the stuff they would otherwise buy. Rough estimates say you will need to play 180 full matches within 8 days assuming you are going to need 2 matches per 1 shard, and 10 per lvl at 9 levels left. Then what we do is assume 15 min per match to 2700 minutes to finish your pass, and now we divide by 60 to get your rough amount of hours to complete your pass.

You will need to play 45 hours over the next 8 days. Good luck.

I want to buy the pass, but I'm not going to buy 1/2 a pass especially when its all back loads to the end rewards.

Good luck finishing your last 9 levels. My estimates say you'll need 45 hours in 8 days to complete the rest assuming 2 games per shard at 15min ea match. Just like your iridescent shards its a time based reward. So expect more downtime between queues.

I don't blame you for not buying the premium without getting back the 1000 cells you'd get if you got to 70, but you don't have to spend 3+ hours a day playing just some days you do but others you just play a survivor and killer match and then something else just to get the extra 300 exp for each role a day. that's almost a full shard just to play two matches plus the exp in each match. and you have to get 10 shards a day... honestly if you budget right you will get it :) also remember that you get shards for each challenge you complete. and they are not that hard really.

Again, the 10-15 minute WAIT for a lobby then a 4 min tunneled game is NOT worth my time. I am and have ATTEMPTED to play this game, for the entire time of the rift. Eventually to get bored of literally wasting your damn time and go play or do something else anything else that's more rewarding than sitting around waiting to try to play a game. I've stopped streaming it. All my friends have stopped streaming it. There's nothing more entertaining than people doing their taxes because there's more than ample time between 'matches'.

It wasn't so much a 'want' to stop playing, but find there is not enough return for the time and money I've put or would put into this game some near 5 years and 2k+ hrs later hovering between Red and Purple ranks depending on rank reset day.

BORING doesn't begin to describe sitting waiting for a lobby, then waiting for everyone to fill that lobby, then for a killer too actually STAY and lock in. Then once that 20-30 min shyteshow is over I get aboout 48 seconds to load in, get my footing, get sand bagged, tunneled and then face camped 1st hook last hook. There's no 'get gud' here. Theres no 'Well u culd hav played longer lul'

Yes you 'gotta play to get what you want' but the game has to LET you play in the first place.

So yeah, screw the rift I'm spending my time and money elsewhere and lots of it :D

See this is the thing: it's for people who exclusively play DBD, however they stated it should be for anyone who only plays on average an hour a day, amounting to about 70 hours per pass, and that's clearly not what's happening. Tome III was the least grindy one and the only one I felt reasonable, as I finished that while barely playing, but I play an average of about 45 hours a week and I'm only just on tier 69.

Only free if you can make the horrendous grind to get it. Or you can pay out the chapters to get it.

So its pay or pay since the grid is beyond redic because Merry Christmas to us all :D Even with an extra WEEK people are still no where near close to finishing, which shows how broke their battlepay is.

do what you gotta do. I'm not forcing you to do anything, only trying to show you there is more to this game that what you have experienced. i don't get tunneled all the time, i do at times, but it happens. to come here and post on here to complain without even trying to do something different means you don't care and if you don't get to enjoy a game from minute one and that you can't win at it you will quit... i'll suggest something, don't get a pvp game and come to the forum to complain you didn't get your way. the game is about a killer killing4 people or 4 survivors out witting a killer and escaping. i've played for over 2500+ hours and I've had many super swf toxic groups that outclasses me and it just made me want to do better instead of QUIT. enjoy yourself outside of DBD you have made up your mind, and thus your post was worthless for me to reply to in the first place, even though i figured it might be but I STILL tried to bring a different option... I would suggest either you just drop the topic and move on to what other game you want or if you keep coming back here you will not quit and you're just whining that you lost.

Literally only log in to get my dailys and contribute to help falsely inflate those login stats.

At current I've actually turned my attention to Warhammer Vermintine 2 which has proven to be surprisingly good and I'm honestly all about it until Back 4 Blood comes out. Or trying to figure out WTAF Death Stranding is all about.. I'm like 60 hrs into that one and still have zero clue whats going on @_@

Never said I was uninstalling, just that DBD is no longer my main girl, she's now the side side side chick I might text at 4am because I can.

It is not even grindy you just have to play the game it is not mandatory to complete the rift or every single rift or even buy tiers in the rift you can just simply ignore it and you don't have to waste any money to get rewards besides dead by daylight is going to be releasing the outfits from the rift to the in-game store now so you really aren't missing out on much.

It is not even grindy you just have to play the game

The manner of how you gain progress is irrelevant to whether or not it is grindy. The time you have to spend to finish the battlepass is absurd and not something you can do casually.

it is not mandatory to complete the rift or every single rift or even buy tiers in the rift

"The developers don't literally force you to grind or steal your money" is not an excuse.

you can just simply ignore it

The developers don't want players to ignore it though. They post about it on Twitter. The in-game news pops up when a new battlepass releases. After every game you play the "progress circle" opens on the right of the screen. If you want to get the stuff from the free battlepass track you are forced to open the battlepass and look at what you could have if you had spent money. It's designed to get as many people as possible to spend money on it.

Yes you can ignore it but the developers are doing everything they can do to ensure that you don't do that.

and you don't have to waste any money to get rewards

Unless you want items that may never, ever come back again ever. If you want one item / set from the battlepass you still have to buy the entire thing for that one item you want.

Example: "Dreaded Husks" on Hag. Head piece that clearly belongs to the green "Chemosynthesis" set (green glowy veins; there is a set in the store with red glowy veins if you don't know what I am talking about). Only problem: The body and weapon were in one battlepass, the head piece in another.

The body and weapon look awful without the correct head piece. The head piece looks awful without the body and weapon. If you got the weapon and body from one battlepass and all you want is the matching head piece so you can actually use them without being arrested by the fashion police you need to grind up the second battlepass, and buy it.

besides dead by daylight is going to be releasing the outfits from the rift to the in-game store now

It was never confirmed that all of the items would come to the store.

"If you missed some rewards in The Rift, most of them will eventually be available in our in-game store after a minimum period of 6 months.", Source: https://deadbydaylight.com/en/archives , from the FAQ under "What happens when The Rift closes?", emphasis mine.

"Most of them" != all of them

There may very well be items that never return. Even if they return, who knows when that will be. The minimum is 6 months but it could be multiple years even and that statement would still be correct.

so you really aren't missing out on much.

The entire system is set up in such a way that players fear they are missing out, which makes them spend money. It may not matter to everyone but it matters to some people for sure. And those players are being preyed upon with the predatory battlepass system. Options to make it less awful have been suggested even before the first battlepass release but were ignored by the developers (example: making it not expire so everyone can do it at their own pace).

Good lord are you this upset by what I posted you couldn't have just summarized what you were thinking not like you could formulate a proper argument since your entire post speaks invalidity just for existing.
