Is not throwing pallets a new meta I missed?

To preface: I'm a PS4 player (crossplay on) and I definitely haven't been playing as often as I used to, but I have 3k hours in the game, probably 60/40 killer, but more survivor when I've played lately.

I just started trying a tome challenge to destroy 25 dropped pallets. In one game as Spirit and three games as Trapper I have broken 12 pallets. Three pallets per game. I played on Temple of Purgation, Coal Tower, Lery's and Groaning Storehouse, so it's not like pallets were scarce. Survivors just weren't dropping pallets.

Is this a thing now, or have I just had some funky matches tonight?

I'm aware of that, but when I can 3k or 4k with 3 pallets being dropped all game, that's just funky.

I broke one pallet with Spirit, so I figured if I played Trapper they would HAVE to drop more pallets. I was wrong, I guess. lol

Go to Hawkins (aka pallet factory), put on Enduring / Brutal Strength / Spies (cuz Hawkins) / Something Else, and NEVER respect a pallet.

Don’t play to win, just get on their butts and stay there. Eat pallet...break it fast,...keep chasing. M1 when you can to keep them scared. Attack (even if it’s a miss) when they go near pallets to encourage quicker drops. Once they realize you’ll eat the pallets, I’ve noticed that they start throwing them more quickly to get stuns. This can easily turn into farming if you want, which is good for your challenge

I used Hillbilly so that they wouldn’t find it suspicious that I never used my killer power (again, cuz Hawkins)

Maybe they make archives? There is a task to stun the killer 4 times per match.

I also think it has to do where they are hit.

Are they hit just before the pallet then they use the sprint burst to get to a different loop instead of throwing the pallet and thus waisting the sprint burst.

That is at least how I do it.

Getting hit before the pallet drop, is using sprint burst to gain distance and thus waisting time.

Do I have time to drop the pallet than I will

I don’t play killer except for rift challenges, and on that one it took me three rounds to do 25 pallets. The first round I only got 4 playing legitimately. Not fast enough. I didn’t want to waste 6 whole games doing a challenge for 3 measly rift points. The second round I tried to get the survivors to farm but they were all total idiots. They wouldn’t stun me with pallets even when I just stood there and motioned to have them hit me! It was like, my god this is going to take forever! After like ten minutes of them not doing anything I got pissed off and killed them all. The third round I finally got somebody smart enough to take the hint and I got it done.

I mean, maybe they wanted to drop them, but the game was like "Eeeeh, nope". This has been a case for weeks.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

lol and I thought I was the only one 😂

Spamming the button to drop the pallet and still getting downed without dropping the pallet.

I haven't noticed this. I try to play around pallets in a way that forces them to either give it to me or risk getting hit. They do make the mistake thinking I will respect so they won't drop while it was the only thing that could have saved them. So if you want pallets stop respecting.

For this challenge I picked out a pre pallet droppper and never stopped chasing till I had almost every pallet down in the entire map. It will cost you a match or 2/3 but I'd rather do this than endure 3/4 pallets over 6/7 matches. I only break strong pallets in a normal match so it would have taken the entire night if I didn't adjust my playstyle.

Actually, good survivors don’t waste time pallet looping and definitely don’t throw safe pallets

Put an offering to the Underground Lab and profit. Some survivors tend to be greedy with pallets.

Really depends on party composition to be honest. Solos tend to be super inefficient on gens, so they'll try to preserve pallets as much as possible. A good SWF will throw pallets immediately because they're confident they can blast gens. Really depends.

For me personally, as survivor I do my best to avoid using pallets. It's windows till I have to drop one.

    You mean hawking lab.

That map is fun if the killer doesn't break unsafe pallets.

I've been in that situation a lot of time where they think the can get me when I throw an unsafe pallet.

I run to the next and throw that one down too and creating an infinite loop.

It's fun to see he killer chasing you and hoping they can catch you with bloodlust only to realise that that doesn't work either. 😂😬

It's a great tactic to find out if the Killer respects pallets or not - which is a big deal.

In fact I refuse to drop pallets so often that I struggle to get Archive challenges done that require me to stun the Killer lol. Mindgames are key in DBD so if you wanna hang with the best of 'em, you gotta do unexpected stuff and make your opponents make mistakes.

It isn’t always Survivors trying to conserve pallets unfortunately. Sometimes you’ll run into toxic Survivors who correctly guess that you’re doing a challenge and they’ll refuse to drop pallets. I’ve had Survivors run through a pallet with me breathing down their neck and they refuse to drop it or only use windows. They’d rather die than give me progress towards my challenge.

    That doesn't make any sense.

If the killer is close enough to hit you through a pallet drop, the optimal play is to not drop the pallet and take the hit. It's playing smart. That's like saying, if I have a stun challenge and the killer sees me jump in a locker but doesn't let me head on them, they are purposely preventing me from progressing my challenge.

You're not always the victim of someone going out of their way to get you.

It was at the end of the game. I had either two dead and one slugged or three dead. The Hatch was also closed. Conserving pallets does not matter at that point because you’re going to die. I used Doctor and Freddy for these challenges, so I would think they’d drop pallets early to avoid their powers. In one of the games, I had a Meg as the last Survivor who was injured and actively avoided pallets. She only used windows. I wasn’t even attacking her. We ran through a junk tile together and she didn’t drop the pallet. Instead she went to the L/T wall and started vaulting it. After that, she started running to a jungle gym but turned away once she saw that the pallet was still up. You seriously can’t tell me that’s not toxic. She was basically telling me that she’d rather die than give me progress towards my challenge. This is just one of my experiences.

I personally have a tendency to not drop pallets even if I know it would make me safe. I go for the risky plays and test that Ace Main luck to keep just one more pallet on the map. This is because I know what it's like to run without pallets so I always make sure there is some for others. There is actually times I've ran away from a loop to save the pallet even though I knew I was going to get screwed.

I'm super greedy with pallets. Especially when playing solo bc I figure I better leave it for the weaker players. I tend to be too greedy, but tbh I think weak players get hit through their pallets anyways bc they often camp pallets anyways. I feel screwed either way lol.
