How would you buff Open-Handed?

I think with it's current ability it should have another one, like for example Technician does decrease the sound of repairs by 8 meters on top of removing the loud noise notification when failing a Skill Check.

I'm not sure what the secondary (or completely different) ability should be, that's why I'm asking for some ideas!

well it increases aura reading range for all survivors but it doesn't benefit you in any way unless you use it with another aura reading perk or effect so the obvious answer would be an built in aura reading effect.

    this is my idea

when you or another survivor is cleansing a totem there aura is revealed to all other survivors

everytime a totem is cleansed open handed gains a token (this acts like a counter)

I really like this idea tbh, and it actually gives us the much needed totem counter.

I wouldn't change it tbh. A buff would be nice but definitely not something I'd prioritise.

Original: Increases Aura-reading ranges by 4/6/8 metres.

My rework idea: Increases Aura-reading ranges by 5/10/15 metres. Grants the ability to see the aura of crows when within a 32 metre range (the aura of crows is not extended).

After buffing the numbers of openhanded, there isn't really much else you can add to the perk. I thought about all of the interactables in dbd and perks that reveal their auras but there isn't any perk that reveals the auras of crows. Considering that, it seems suitable to add this feature to open-handed. The aura would stay visible while crows fly off and the perk would light up when they do, to tell you that somebody has triggered a crow within 32 metres of you if you missed the aura. This would allow you to locate the whereabouts of your teammates and the killer as well as avoiding crows to not attract the killer. That alongside the extended aura reading range would be a very justified perk slot, especially when paired with other aura reading perks.

15 meters? that plus kindred and survivors would be able to see killers 31 meters away from a hook

Okay perhaps I didn't think that through, what about 6/8/10 metres.

Yeah but it's taking up perk slots and Kindred is cap at 36m so I won't stack with other OH.

increasing the range is not really worth it as open handed stacks with other open handed

  • TheButcher6641

but people could still stack the original openhanded and still get up to a maximum of 32 metres of extended aura reading.

How it currently works plus the person using Open Handed can see any auras that their perk is enhancing. So if someone else has Kindred, any time Open Handed is extending its range, you also see the auras the Kindred user sees.

Didn't they removed the cap recently? Maybe I'm wrong tho.

They did i just check the wiki. I was living under a rock then. Still an 48m range isn't that big of a deal if they are using a slot for that. better that then a second chance perk right?

Okay wait I think I've got it.

Original: Increases the aura-reading ranges of you and your team by 4/6/8 metres.

My rework idea: Increases your aura-reading ranges by 5/10/15 metres. Grants the ability to see the aura of crows when within a 32 metre range (the aura of crows is extended by open-handed).

    I'd add this effect:

All survivors that have their aura revealed to you also have your aura revealed to them.

This makes it a really nice and helpful team-information perk. Plus it fits with the title of the perk

it would still be too strong comboed with other aura reading perks even if it did not stack or apply to other survivors also i think the whole increase your team's aurareading is core to the perks identity.

that being said seeing the auras of crows would make for a nice new perk or maybe give it to another perk like calm spirit

I'd make it so your aura is revealed to all other survivors, like OoO, but for your teammates.

How would this interact with Kindred? If it allows everyone to see the Killer for 31 meters (without stacking), that is overkill IMO. If it only allows you to see the Killer for 31 meters, then i prefer the current Open-Handed because it increases the range for everyone else.

I'd give it a secondary ability function that allows the survivor to place a motion sensor, and as long as the killer is within 8m of the sensor, the owning survivor's perk icon lights up. Plus, a 90s cooldown on when the location of the sensor can be moved.

Would be cool to see an additional effect like "When they leave your aura reading range, their aura continues to show for 2/3/4 seconds" or something.

Okay I'm doubting myself now. How about:

Increases the aura-reading ranges of you and your team by 10 metres (open-handed effects do not stack). Grants the ability to see the aura of crows when within a 24/28/32 metre range (the aura of crows is not extended by your open-handed).

The extended range is good at any tier but not too powerful and the higher the tier the further away you can see crows. The aura of crows would stay visible while crows fly off and the perk would light up when they do, to tell you that somebody has triggered a crow within 32 metres of you. This would allow you to locate the whereabouts of your teammates and the killer as well as avoiding crows to not attract the killer. Or if you're not a fan of the crow idea:

Increases the aura-reading ranges of you and your team by 10 metres. The killer's aura-reading ability is impaired by 4/6/8 metres.(open-handed effects do not stack)

This would help against very strong killer perks such as nurse's calling (which would lower the range in which the killer can see you healing) and Barbecue and chilli (which would increase the distance that you have to be away from the hook for your aura to be shown). Thoughts?

Hmm...perhaps. You may be onto something here (with the aura-imparing second ability. Crow ability I think is bad).

    Add onto its current form:

If you're within 8m of another survivor, any aura that's revealed to them is also revealed to you.

    No need to increase the range effect. Instead add this little benefit;

When another survivor has an aura effect active, then you see the aura of that survivor in a 32/48/64 meter range.

Example; Ace is cleansing a totem and Claudette is doing a gen on the other side of the map some 50 meters away. Somewhere on the map, Meg is found by the killer and gets injured. The chase is on.

Claudette immediately sees Meg now thanks to Empathy. Ace doesn't see Meg, because he doesn't have Empathy but now he does see Claudette because her Empathy is active.

This makes Open Handed a great secondary information utility to help coordination while keeping it's original buff in tact as well. You might not know exactly what's going on, but you do know who knows whats going on.

Although situational, it would be cool if it were the one perk that blocks Killer Instinct.

Increase survivor's aura range by 4/6/8 meters, and increase survivor's aura duration by 3/4/5 seconds (duration doesn't stack with multiple users but range still does)

This means if you use a map you will see things for 5 seconds after you stop reading it, if you have a perk like Alert it will last 10 seconds instead of 5, if you have Kindred the killer will be revealed for 5 seconds after leaving the radius. Empathy will show someone for 5 seconds after they're healed, so on and so forth. Still requires other aura reading perks/items to work, but I feel like this would make it a much more appealing option for people who like aura reading and would now benefit all the perks that don't have a range limit

Buff for Open Handed: All other survivors can see auras that you can see.

Open handed should apply to every aura reading capabilities for all survivors. Instead, I found out that open handed only applies to a few perks like kindred. What a crappy perk that needs serious buffing. At least make it so it applies to ALL aura reading perks that benefit survivors.

The aura doesn't necessarily have to be shown to all survivors, just make it so it applies to all other aura reading perks.
