Why do killers swing at DS?
Hey all, so I have been playing DBD for multiple years now but their are a few things that I dont get(probably because I'm more of a casual player) like for instance, why do some killers take a swing right before a survivor uses their DS?

Idk I've never even tried tbh; maybe to try and make the screen move some on them and make them miss the skill check?

The idea is that it might shake the screen enough to make the survivor miss the DS.

A few years ago the swing animation would sometimes trump the DS animation allowing the killer to keep the survivor on their shoulder.
Nowadays people just swing hoping that it will make you miss the skillcheck.

Back then there was a chance to bug out DS if you time the swing correctly, resulting into a succesfull skillcheck still not activating + (with camera shaking) distracting the survivor.
I still do it nowadays, but for another reason: Trying to say "ey listen, I know you have DS, Im not dumb. I just dont care."

Exactly.
Nowadays it is just "I know you run a small pp perk, lets get over with it."
The change to ds and survivor's camera was done years ago, most of current dbd population doesn't even know how it looked back then or how m1 worked on it.
Just treat is an acknowledgement from the killer about your obvious DS bait.

ye, its basically just an "I know it, just do it" thing. But tbh this is only seen by oldschool players. When I check a killers profile who did this he was around since 2016. I respect this guys

It can mess with survivors camera and sound

I do it bc that way survivors know that I'm not stupid and that I know they have DS and are planning to use it on me.

Hey, eating DS is usually the better option than respecting it. Not always, but usually. Good on you. Everybody I know that doesn't respect DS doesn't have any problems with it I've noticed, me included, but people who do think it is the world's most OP and BS perk.

If a survivor is obviously trying to bait a DS, I swing to let them know I'm about to commit the action I'm getting punished for.
And I'm a Blight main, so I can keep that promise without throwing the game... Moral of the story, don't force a DS agaisnt a competent Blight.

I'm an M1 killer by heart. Ghostface is my main, and then I play Demo and Plague next. Even with them, I've never had issues with DS or any survivor perks, honestly.
I feel like a lot of players (on both sides) just need to find SOMETHING to complain about. As someone who plays both sides (more survivor, admittedly), Idk why people complain about a lot of stuff on either side. I honestly don't think any perks or combinations are problematic. The only perk I see as an issue is Undying. That's just because I think the perk is a bit bloated for what it is. That's it.

Probably hoping to discover a new glitch in the game that allows them to hit the survivor as they get off with DS.

to point out that the killer knows it's coming, I believe.
However, it used to be the case that if the killer swung at the ground at the right time, DS would get eaten up and nothing would happen. Interesting bug.
