New Rank Reward System
One question: if the new rank reset will take me back to 20 every month, will it be easier / faster to move up towards rank 1 now?

I hope that's the case or it's gonna be a long grind for players with high MMR. Obviously not me, so I don't care 😎

No. It will be HARDER. Rank will no longer have anything to do with matchmaking. It means they have found other things to compare, and more than likely you will be fighting in your own weight class every game.

Hahaha, you think the game thats the king of grinding is going to make it easier? Hell, if anything they'll make it harder.

I personally don't like this change... Now most games are gonna be dead since there are players who are more skilled in the same as unskilled. Red rank killers having more advantage in matches making it even more difficult for survivors to grind or rank up.

Lollllll of course what was I thinking. Btw are you Mozzie from Pixelz stream?

This will only be the case when MMR is active, meaning, in theory the players should be equally skilled. You can have a Rank 20-player in a match with a Rank 2-player who both are equally good at the game, because Rank does not matter for Matchmaking.
The difficulty should be roughly the same. If you have low MMR, you go against low MMRs as well, but you will not be that good at the game either. If you have high MMR, you go against high MMR-players, but your skill level will also be more advanced.

Terrible idea.
Survivors will be matched with better kills with worse teammates.
Killers will be matched with better survivors. Rank reset is hard enough on people who don’t have the time to be great at the game (like me).

Thats true actually. I need some sleep I guess.

Could you further explain to me how MMR for DBD works? As in are you able to know where you're at as an example.

Not exactly no. If they did what I think they did, the matching is going to be Skill based, i.e. they are pulling statistics on the Players and matching them with the Statistics on the Killer. This means the match up will be more precise. The people who will suffer in these matches are those attempting to Smurf because in this kind of match up, mixing weak players with strong will favor the Killer.
Regardless, Rank has nothing whatsoever to do with who you fight. So Potatoes should be fighting potatoes.

Yeah, I only play a few evenings a week.
After a year of DBD I can steadily reach red ranks every month.
But now, by resetting to 20 monthly, I will probably be looking at getting to 14 if I'm lucky.
I wonder why devs decided to reset all the way back to 20 instead of keeping at least milestones where we can hit, and stay at?

Because Rank is now distinct from matchmaking. :) If they are going to award big points for being Rank-1 everyone has to start at the same starting point.

Look here:
The big thing is that Ranks are not used for Matchmaking. So when Rank Reset happened, you can have players who have been at Rank 1 before at Rank 20 and players who have been at Rank 17 before at Rank 20. The thing is, due to MMR (which will be in place for Matchmaking), the former Rank 1s will go against players of an equal Skill Level and the former Rank 17s as well.
So, if the system works, experienced Killers will go against experienced Survivors. And unexperienced players will play with/against unexperienced players.

What system/metrics is it using, if not rank?

They're collecting data of your gameplay in the background for some month.

Well we HOPE Players will be matched against those with equal skill. We still don't REALLY know how MMR works. I would like the DEV to release the info on what it measures and how it will be matching people.

Sounds very dubious.
Im highly doubtful this will produce more "equal" matching.
Frankly, to me, this seems just like an cover for changing the matchmaking, so that the lacking of Killers which leads to long ques for Survivors (especially SWF), especially at red rank, is now "hidden" behind the excuse that the algorithm is unknown, secret and opaque.
TLDR: The system will instead shove any and all available Killers into as many matches as it can, regardless of rank/skill differentials, just to get the ques populated.
PS: When will this take effect?

I think it's pretty hard to create a fair matchmaking algorithm for an asymetrical game. Especially, if things like SWFs are included. Because they have to be handled in another way.
But the only thing we can do is to wait and hope 😀.

For the record I have no problem starting at 20 every month!
Just curious how many hours would I need to play, pipping 50% of games, in order to get to rank 1 in one month.
Because it seems like a lot.

I rarely put on a tinfoil hat and spout conspiracies, but I'm not certain there is an MMR system at all. This change simply covers that up and without them telling us HOW it works, they could simply match us with 1st in 1st out, and we would never know the difference. We have no idea if the person was in our weight class or not. Do you see what I mean? That is why I think it is very important that they tell us HOW we are measured and matched against one another.

I disagree, there's no way MMR is a lie. I believe BHVR is trying their best to make this game as fair and great as possible.
