Found an image that shows the best of both worlds for a new UI
It keeps the gritty style that we know and love, while showing the necessary info that the new UI was trying to convey.
Credit goes to u/MikeHuntOG for creating this mockup. ( Thanks @OniWantsYourMacaroni )
( just so y'all know those are the survivor adept portraits )

Everyone is hating on this UI but they said they changed it for features they plan on adding into the game later on.
There's a reason it's been changed and it's all a matter of getting used to the new one.

The part everyone hates is how spread out the info is, while the current UI has all you'll need to know conveniently in the bottom left.
As some people have stated, it looks like a crappy mobile game hud. I'm inclined to agree.
If they're so strapped for room in the old UI why not just put the totally new stuff in the top left like the reworked one, While keeping the old stuff in the bottom left? Instead of screwing with an already great design.

A mobile version of the game within the mobile version of DBD. Genius.

We don't know what's gonna be added. This is not about the little hook extra icons and probably something much bigger.
I know it spreads informations, but it's not the end of the world once you're used to it. Do you need to see your power icon all the time? No, every killer power as a sound playing when it's available I believe. Every information you need is at the top of the screen.
The little info you'd need to gather around your power icon would be hatchets for huntress, for example. Even then it's not a big deal imo

That looks way better than what bhvr did. Except survivors who have never been hooked shouldn't have a number next to them, that's just confusing imo.
4 -
Man that is so much better....and it tracks hook count per person instead of just total.
3 -
That's way better. I hope they do something closer to this than the current plan of HUD all over the screen blocking view for killers and survivors.

Please a mod or dev see this this is perfect.
2 -
Behavior: No, no this makes too much sense.
6 -
I like this much better than the idea of the little portraits that they're going for.
3 -
We do not know what is being planned for the UI as a whole...

It definetely looks better except the health states of the survivors.
Like that one stick figure looks like it got slashed by davids head and is trying to run away from it.

I don't get why they just don't make the UI completely reconfigurable. I don't remember which game did it but they let you drag, drop, resize, add and remove the UI elements anywhere you wanted.
3 -
Then they could wait until those features are done... Features they plan to add later on could mean anywhere between a week to 2 years.
5 -
I love it.

In less than 6 hours a random redditor made something better than the devs
Honestly I don't even feel like complaining anymore it just makes me sad

The generic portraits too. They look really bad and out of place. I hope they change them and use the ones in this post instead.

This was before the PTB came along, have the moderators checked this?

for everyone saying
'but they are going to add new stuff' or 'you don't know what they are planning'
while valid, it misses a crucial point:
The information needed is not effectively conveyed. For a mobile game the HUD layout as it is is fine. but for your average computer/tv screen, it's not.
You have to flick your eyes across the entire screen now to get info that before was condenced into clear areas:
Vital info was in the lower left, semi-vital info on the lower right and situational info to the left and right of the center row, where the main attention is.
Now it's all over the place.

adding new features and changing things up a bit eh? Sounds like they might be a little scared of that Evil Dead game that supposed to come out later this year heh. A franchise like that, with a decent game dev like Saber behind it, without the lolsuits friday the 13th were later threatened with when somebody decided to go nuclear against anything with Jason... could be the game that finally pushes these devs to compete for quality and fun in the experience. Hopefully they'll stop expecting killers to be unpaid entertainers by the end of the year and start being concerned about their fun too. Because it could be a lot more fun to be a deadite, or a special infected in Back 4 Blood too. Both of those games could total disasters, but the chances are between their developers and focus at least one of them will be decent enough that their IP will swing enough players over to them and hold onto them for a while.

It looks so much better, but more importantly it's easy to get the needed information at a glance.
The bottom left corner is a good place for necessary info like that in DbD. It's out of the way and not distracting, but while a survivor is working on a gen it's there in the peripherals, and large shape changes (healthy vs injured vs dying vs hooked) are easy to notice and decipher, neither loud and distracting nor so subtle that the player has to squint at them.

Too good for dbd

I mean, while what you say is true, let's not forget that other developers have already tried this genre before and failed. Last Year which failed, relaunched then failed again because the player base dwindled. RE: Resistance, which did last a while but again, failed as the playerbase dwindled. Then there was that Predator game, which god knows what happened to that because I hear nothing about it even existing at this point anymore. So unless these upcoming games throw some amazing features into the game, DbD will still be the leader in this genre for a while.

The UI was a disaster. I don't understand how a company raking in so much money now can seemingly hire people who look like they have no experience in UI design. Most of the information it tried to put across did not come across to players well.

There is one extra chevron on Laurie. But yeah, I like this one so much better.

Last Year was abandoned by it's devs within about amonth after the discord release, with communication being silent not long after for the most part. I had that day 1 and remember that, and expected the same for it's steam release. turned out they didn't ditch it as quickly on steam, but by the time it made it to steam some of it's target players had already ignored it after discord so it already started on steam with a shrunk playerbase I bet. It alsos ounded form what I heard it still had some balance issues even on steam that they took too long to fix, but if they hadn't abandoned it at the original launch, kept up on it year round, and had crossplay once on steam it could have been balanced out and lasted much longer. (I think it did have crossplay with steam, but we all got steam keys for it anyways, but when I saw others saying they'd already let it go I figured it been a waste to install it myself too by then which was a shame since I did have fun it's first couple weeks on discord and it's maps were much better though the killers needed a lot of work and the tazer was busted as hell once people figured that out).
Friday the 13th was simply an issue with some prick going nuclear with threats to sue everything using Jason in it. That game itself, had it not been for that, was already on track to eventually beat dead by daylight like a red-headed stepchild. It had it's issues, but they were being worked out untilt hat happened and it had bots so queue length as an issue was more optional rather something you could do nothing about and the player being Jason was picked randomly anyways. There were more players a match and you did alot more than holding m1 and creeping around tot he next generator to do the same thing when not in a chase. You could even kill Jason, yet Jason still felt very powerful. And if you hid long and well enough you could win on that alone. I enjoyed that game far more overall.
Anything else, that doesn't hype itself for years just to be ditched by it's devs like Last Year or have an already well known and appealing franchise behind it like Friday the 13th just to get threatened to be sued into oblivion if they continued pushing out the character's content could blow dbd out of the water if it was released finished, playable, and fun and fair enough for all sides involved. Evil Dead could be a massive disappointment, but here's to hoping it's not even if you'd still rather stick to dbd since that would provide competition forcing dbd to also get better to not lose players to it. That way everybody wins regardless of which game they rather play.

Instead of portrait & status are 2 different things.
Merge them into one
7 -
Remember when they said the same thing when they introduced "Devotion".
2 -
This looks great! Since the art team seems to be the most proficient part of BHVR, I imagine they could knock something like this out in a week or 2.
0 -
To be fair, they only have to photoshop an image, not code an entire HUD.
0 -
It's more the fact that they designed a better looking hud in less time than it took for BHVR to make their godawful one.

Still no totem counter
