What's the purpose of Undying having aura reading on dull totems
When the hex doesn't move to dull totems but replaces the existing undying totem?
The perk doesn't synergize with itself. If I'm using the perk, I want to be protecting the 2 lit totems. The other totems will never come into play.
By The Way this is not a thread to vent about the change to Undying, if you've come here for that go to another thread where that's the point of that thread. Thank you.

You are given free aura reading for the dull totems.
The killer has way too many tracking perks already this is just another one of them.

I am also confused by the change to aura reading on dulls only. It would have made sense if nothing else changed about the perk, because you would want dulls to be up for the hex totem to transfer to.
Also the fact the totem that literally kills itself when a totem is cleansed is called "undying" is funny to me.

They coded auras into the initial perk. It didn't make sense from the beginning and it doesn't make sense now. However, they did it anyway and, once it's done, they're not gonna simply remove it altogether.
It's similar to Hillbilly's overheat. It was too punishing initially and they didn't know what to do with it, but they couldn't just throw all that work out the window. So, they kept it. In his case, they curbed it down to do almost nothing (unless you run engravings). For Undying, it still has a pretty good effect.

Put aura reading on the hex perks. Is that so OP?

It is if the perk also does other, powerful things in addition to the aura reading. That's why the perk is being nerfed.
Aura reading should never have been part of Undying's ability, but for some reason they can't let it go.

It's completely pointless. If they wanted to nerf Undying like this, they should've left the aura reading on Hex totems. Instead they double nerfed it and now it's a worse Thrill of the Hunt.

I was fine with the aura reading from old Undying. I just think it should give you the cursed status effect when you start cleansing a totem. That way Soul Guard is a better counter and solo queue players can actually know Undying is in play without guessing.

probs just kept it in because of their continuing strange obsession to forcefully demand survivors cleanse dull totems.
Don't they have any more effective tactics?

It's weird. Originally, Undying was something other than NOED that encouraged cleansing dull totems. If Undying is active, it shows nearby survivors' auras, which makes it more difficult to cleanse dulls. Now, because a cleansed hex will just replace Undying and not use a previously dull totem, there's no reason to risk cleansing dulls with the new Undying.
Of course, once one totem is cleansed, Undying is definitely no longer in play and dull totems should no longer show auras. Unless all the hex totems are really well hidden, Undying will almost always have a short lifespan in a match.
The aura bit is a very weird thing to have, now. It doesn't help protect lit totems. Unless the killer has NOED, he has no reason to give a damn about dull totems, so it's just a strange tracking perk while in play. While Undying is up, it makes cleansing dull totems difficult, best to just try to stay away from dull totems. Kinda counterproductive if the devs want dull totems to be a secondary objective.

Having aura reading on hex totems never made that much sense.
The main counter to totems is cleansing, Undying countered cleansing yet also had a built in counter to its counter in totem auras.

I think most people will still cleanse what totems they see. It's quick, easy BP/emblem points and considering how a lot of NOED users dropped it for the current meta build I wouldn't be suprised if some backtracked.

Allows you to see where EGC hexes might pop to, where someone cleansed a dull totem and even if you should expect an EGC without an EGC hex.
