first.. it takes very long even as killer what is usually instant.

second.. the ranks.. i play killer get a full green lobby as rank 1

i play survivor.. exactly the same only green/yellow ranks

do you experience the same? is it because the upcoming mmr?

Many things are wrong, for one it relies on the flawed ranking system.

The same one that ranks you up based on playtime rather than skill.

Opinions vary. The most commons ones are:

    1. There isn't really a matchmaking system, period.
    2. There are too many variables, some of which make no sense of matchmaking.
    3. Behavior favors faster Que times over good matchmaking.

Most likely both two and three are currently accurate. I think shortly one will be accurate.

first... killer matches are quicker in the evening and longer in the day where I live. Many players SWF after work, more players work during the day

second... same here; as far as ranks go of players I’m getting lobbied up with

MMR is currently (as you are playing each match, now) collecting data in-game skill data for when it’s implemented in the future (devs say “soon”) so players will be matched with other players of the same skill set.

Right now, players are matched with other players of similar Rank. When similar ranks are not available in a certain time frame, the system sends in the next highest rank to the lobby.

Looking forward to a fully operational, properly functioning MMR

It's been like this for months for me. A few days ago I got in a lobby with 3 randoms (ranks) 18-19 vs rank 19 wraith. Randoms just ran around all game, hid in lockers and ran killer to me every time they were chased, so I ended up doing 4 and a half gens by myself . Wraith kept losing me at L-T walls and it looked like it was his 3rd or 4th game as a killer. Ever since they first introduced skill based mmr matchaking has been awful.

I'm a lvl 12 killer, been playing 2 weeks. I get TONS of reds to play against, more often than similarly-rated survivors. I can usually tell two minutes into a match what kind of ranks I'm going against. On my stream we play "over/under" 2.5 reds played against.

even IF the colors means nothing anymore i still should get people with the same color.. in my case Red.

but i get rank 10s and these players are 30 hours survivors who have 0 chance against me as more experience player what is pretty annoying.

i dont wanna bully people and stopped playing for now. its not fun for them nor for me.

Supposedly MMR is doing all that. Consider me dubious.

The thing is when the new MMR system starts and Rank is divested from it, you will have no idea if you were fighting someone with 1K+ hours or a hundred other than how you think they played in comparison to you. That's the unfortunate thing about where we are headed. You have to ASSUME everyone is in your weight class. So yes, people are going to think you are bullying them if the MMR either doesn't REALLY exist or doesn't work.

    Yeah... “supposedly”

we’re all a bit dubious tho, at this point

My problem with what has been inferred so far is that it seems to be less about matchmaking and more about making sure we can't check their work or call them out on doing an poor job of it. It has been implied (although they may prove me wrong and show the metrics that count and how they are measured) that we won't know how MMR works to keep anyone from trying to "game" the system. That is nonsense. All anyone has to do to game the system, whether they know what metrics are tracked or not, is throw games. It is as simple as that. So their implied reasoning for keeping secrets is a miscalculation at best, and a falsehood at worst.

There is no good reason not to tell us the metrics MMR is using and how it works other than to obfuscate the process so we can't say, "it isn't working." We will just have to have faith, and chalk that curb stomping we gave or received to us just playing well. Surely those people should have been playing us, the MMR said so. Rank means nothing soon, since there will be Red Rank Potatoes just as their will be Red Rank Sharks. Do you follow?

I'm not a tinfoil hat kind of guy, who spouts conspiracies, nor am I a guy that is negative on Behavior. They have treated me well in all our interactions and overall I enjoy the game. That doesn't mean I won't call out something sketchy when I see it. They need to elucidate us on how MMR works, what it measures, and when it is set in motion. If they won't, they need to give us a good reason why they can't. Saying people will sandbag if they know the metrics doesn't cut the mustard; as I've already pointed out all one has to do to sandbag one's rating is choose to lose games.

As Rank 1/2 solo survivor, I been getting a bunch of console rank 12's, 8's, and the like. Meanwhile the Killer is typically at least Rank 5. Been seeing a lot of closet and corner hiding allies as of late.

    Agreed.

An MMR system is pretty useless if we don't understand what contributes to that MMR. Like, it might as well just be some fake made-up number if we have no grasp on how to improve it. The whole idea of MMR is to gauge and matchmake based on skill, and that would lead a reasonable player to want to take steps to improve their skill. We have to know what the steps are, though.

I've said this a couple of times already, but at bare minimum, every player's MMR number needs to be visible, even if it's only on the post-match screen. Otherwise, they will always have a perception problem of players assuming that the current rank numbers/color bands are what influences the matchmaking. The 99.9% of players who don't read forums/social media/patch notes/game news will continue to go "Why do I keep getting matched with and/or against people 10 ranks higher/lower than me? Matchmaking is so broken!"

Look at how other games do it. League of Legends has a hidden MMR number, but it groups players into leagues (bronze, silver, gold, etc.) based on their match performance, and they are in a pool with other players in that league. StarCraft II is similar, I believe, and Overwatch, and so on. Why can't DBD function the same way, in terms of turning the (current) ranks into strict leagues that correlate with MMR to some degree? If you're gonna have two different numbers, they better work together (especially if one is invisible) or you will have nothing but confusion.

EDIT: Also, as @ScottJund pointed out in one of his videos, an MMR system is likely to torpedo high-level content creator play, because it will result in super-long queue times with the same super-small pool of people, who will probably only ever use the same handful of perks and the same 2-3 killers in every match. There are a lot of problems with MMR that a game like DBD is going to struggle to address.

    Oh, I completely understand.

Getting bamboozled isn’t what I enjoy waking up to everyday... or any day, for that matter. With ranks now 100% out the window, with regards to skillset, and players entirely oblivious as to wether or not MMR even works, or especially, how it even works; every base of the devs is covered.

Feels like it’s being kept a secret, yes.

While I always give devs the benefit of doubt (I do still trust them), they are intelligent enough not to unintentionally make those types of miscalculations, and the vagueness that’s come along with the matchmaking system has led me down this road toward inquisition.

If MMR ends up improperly functioning, and Lobbies-by-rank system is removed, the ensuing chaos through the displease and disgust of players continually getting mismatched games could force them permanently out of DBD altogether.

If MMR’s a bust again, the ranking system couldn’t reinstated legitimately. Then what?

BE has to have reasoned that scenario and wouldn’t keep something in-play that could severely harm their baby. I would hope so anyway.

I personally would love to completely know how MMR works. Is it different from the other games which implement MMR that have been mentioned here in the forums?

Match making is a joke. I’m a rank 16 killer and every game I get red or purple survivors. Rank 8 survivor and I get red rank killers and I’m with 3 yellow survivors. I can understand this happening on occasion but every time? I don’t get to play often but used to enjoy the few hours of gameplay when I could but it’s got to the point where I can’t be bothered to even turn it on

There is something wrong with the ranking system, My friend plays as a red rank 3 killer and gets matched mostly against green and sometimes even yellow rank survivors, I play as a yellow rank 13 killer and they match me against mostly red rank survivors, It's like they are matching us completely backwards.

Yes, I want visible MMR numbers.

If BHVR is telling me what my skill level is and assigning me a number classifying that level, I want to know what it is, and I want to know how they arrived at said number.
