Should You Run DS In Solo Que?

I don't want to run it because to me it feels like I'm cheating the Killer out of a kill. And I care about the other sides fun. However If my chases go even slightly well the Killer then tunnels me out of the game. And I'd really like to reach rank 1 before the season ends. Keep in mind I'm solo que, do no bail out from my friends flashlight.

Normally I don't run it because I feel the same way. However when I play survivor I'm usually with a swf. Since solo sucks, I wouldn't feel bad about running DS.

Well, as a killer main (or at least someone who plays killer more)... Bring what you want, play how you want. I bring DS, because in Solo Queue it seems like the tunneling get's way worse. I find that if you just don't be a shithead about having DS, most killers won't care.

It's not necessary unless your going to actively annoy the killer or just bad at getting away. Your better off with perks that will have use all game.

Tbh I stopped run it since months and don't feel the need to go back and run it again. I run OoO now so I can guarantee an obsession

No, it's useless maybe adds a few seconds to your life but it doesn't cheat the killer though it is more like prolonging your life for a few seconds. Maybe try to instead do SWF or try being stealthy when I play solo queue the killer can't find me unless they have bbq or they are camping and I go for saves. Usually, I just walk away from areas is how I do it if your new you may need to learn how to walk away instead of run. If you are not new and just need help to prolong chases try getting megs perks.

    Yes. Next question.

By all means play how you want. But I think DS will boost you a rank or two. If just because you will have more chances to pip during games you otherwise may have been removed early.

I consider it my Depip Saver. On those occasions, especially in solo, where I would have been killed much earlier than I hoped, I can get a DS and maybe do a gen, get a save and preserve a pip.

Also, I like to make sure there is an obsession in each match, and this is two birds with one stone, so to say.

That's actually a pretty good idea, thank you I'll definitely start doing that.

More often that not you should. Despite what some people on here will claim, matches without an obsession usually end up with the killer hard tunnelling someone out the game. However, working on your looping skills will serve you (personally) far better than DS in the long term.

By the same token, a lot of us who don't tunnel unless absolutely necessary will render the perk useless. Hence why looping will always be your first and foremost skill to hone in soloq.

IDGAF about a killer feeling cheated out of a kill in SOLO QUEUE. If you get hit by DS in a lobby of solo queue players, you most likely 100% deserved it. Most solo queue players are hanging on to the last thread of their life, not getting gen grabbed to use DS LMAOOO

Lack of players bringing DS in a trial is one of the main reasons I stopped playing solo queue, if I'm being honest. Speaking solely on teamwork, if you're a potato, you owe it to the rest of the team to bring perks that make up for you being a potato. I'm not a potato and I still always make sure I bring "second chance" perks to solo queue because you can't control for the quality of teammates you'll get, even if I myself am confident in how well I may be able to play against a killer.

If you want to, bring it. Doesn't matter if it's because you just had a no-obsession game and it went like they often go or any other reason. If you're bringing it and using it primarily as an anti-tunneling tool the situations most people complain about will happen way less than if you aggressively use it.

Of course, some will complain even if they hit you down right off hook and get DS'd after insta-picking you up, but they're never gonna be happy with any change that the devs might realistically make to DS in the first place, so.. unlucky I guess.

You should. There's not even point in "caring about other people's fun" when their fun is to ruin the fun of the other side by hard tunneling, if it makes sense.

Besides, in solo queue is way more likely you'll get farmed, so you'll have a chance after that. DS in solo is not only about the killer, unfortunately is about the teammates you get too.

But if you ask me, I don't bring it, because I try to believe I'll have a fair match and I want to have fun. So I normally use other obsession perks, like Blood Pact. Sometimes I pay the price of not having it, but just by having an obsession perk, many matches get more "civilized". And if not, I play othe game until I have friends to join.

I will never play without it on. Too many killers try to run someone down off the hook and this is the biggest and really only way to punish it in solo queue. If the killer tunnels a survivor without DS the game can be lost very quickly for the survivors and the survivor tunneled hardly gets to play the game if they're not beasts at looping.

The only time DS becomes really scummy is when you're getting in the killer's face for the minute it's active. Working on gens in front of them, jumping in lockers near them, etc. If you're not doing that then DSing them is completely justified unless they're just hooking your teammates that fast imo.

    Yes, but it is situational.

But it becomes consistent if you put yourself in danger after you're hooked.

It's not cheating the killer out of a kill anymore than BBQ is cheating a survivor out of staying hidden.

You do what you got to do.

DS significantly improves your chances of surviving especially in solo Q where you can't rely on your teammates to do safe hook saves. But ultimately it's up to you.

I never run DS unless I'm doing a Stun Quest in the Tome. I just don't like to and there are better more fun options to use. I'm a Rank 1 Solo Q Survivor so you do not need DS to even get to Rank 1 (which is pathetically easy even on Solo Q if you've been playing the game for any decent amount of time).

DS is often the difference between escape and getting killed, especially in endgame struggles.

If you are not good at looping or winning chases I can see how it feels like it only adds a few seconds to your life. But in the hands of someone who knows what he's doing a single DS can add 30 seconds or more to the chase, or even just make the killer give up entirely or even cause the killer to lose altoegther.

DS is not as powerful or problematic as a lot of people like to pretend, but at the same time let's not belittle or downplay its power and importance.

Run whatever build you want to. If you really wanna discourage tunneling, you can strap some obsession perk and make the killer take the guess.

Yes. Decisive in general is a great perk.

I play Solo Survivor and I don't run DS at all, zero, nada, etc. I'm currently a Rank-4 Survivor (lowest I've managed so far). I don't run DS because I don't think it is a good Perk, not because I think it cheats the Killer. Running with DS is like running with NOED, i.e. you are one Perk down the entire match unless you get tunneled. Even if you do get tunneled, the Killer might just slug you and count (what I do as a Killer) or take the stun if early in the match and get rid of it and still run you down (what I also sometimes do). Only inexperienced Killers let DS screw them over in the last third of the match. As long as the Killer absorbs it early, doesn't tunnel, or simply knows how to be patient, he/she can shut down ALL value that Perk provides with no real problem. In short, I've never gotten a good return on that Perk, so I don't run it.

So, I've managed to break into the Red Ranks without it, barely. I haven't found I spend anymore time being tunneled because of it.

    Shirokinukatsukami Member Posts: 1,624

Taking DS early is not a "counter" to DS. You still ate it. If the survivor was a good one and can loop you around for a long time, by the time you took the DS and downed him again 2-3 gens would be done. You tunneled that one survivor but you already lost basically. DS wins games if it can stop you from exerting pressure on the three other survivors.

Girl, I never take off ds. People tunnel and in some situations you have to do that to have a chance at winning.

Yeah, or some other obsession creating perk.

  • Moundshroud
    Moundshroud Member Posts: 4,458

If you say so? :) I've never found a DS stun any more inconvenient than a Pallet stun and nobody has brought up squat on me for taking one.

  • StardustSpeedway
    StardustSpeedway Member Posts: 882

I've been playing without it for months, and it's been a mixed bag. There's been a lot of matches where there are no obsession and every time the killer proceeds to tunnel the unhooked survivor like 90% of the time...in red ranks. I understand that it must be a breath of fresh air for a killer to load up in a lobby and not see an obsession created at the start of the match and you'd THINK that they'd play a little bit more fair, but unfortunately they don't.

And I can't blame them. It's the smart thing to do, but it isn't very fun for the survivors getting tunneled and sacrificed within minutes of the match starting. What they don't realize however is that this exact behavior is why survivors choose to run DS in the first place.

It's an endless back and forth cycle lol.

    Shirokinukatsukami Member Posts: 1,624

And like DS, Palette stuns can win you the chase or in some situations the game. Again, if the survivor is good enough to loop you palettes and DS are very powerful tools that amplify his time-wasting ability.

I don't see why you are belittling the palette stun? Palettes are survivors' strongest weapon in this game. It's what wins games for survivors.

  • Moundshroud

I'm not. I simply answered the OP's question on whether I thought DS was that important for a Survivor. I don't.

I run DS and acknowledge it is broken and unfair, it happens to me when I play killer though so why not? It's not our job to fix the game and not using something doesn't fix it, so go ahead I say.

When I used to run DS all the time, I slowly realized that it didn't even come into play in many of my solo queue games. It could swing the match for you, or it could go completely unused. Nowadays I try to stick to perks that guarantee value every game (Kindred for example) and I feel like I'm a better player for it. Just my experience.

Honestly, Decisive Strike is bad in solo queue because its less abusable. In a SWF, you can tell everyone that you have Decisive and they can play accordingly to try to force the Killer to pickup.

In solo queue, plenty of Killers have no intention of tunneling and you'll never get to use your perk slot.

    Play how you want.

Personally I never use DS. I think it’s terribly overrated.

The perk can only be used once. If a killer is hell bent on tunnelling, DS isn’t going to stop them.

  • Chchchcheryl
    Chchchcheryl Member Posts: 1,531

As a survivor I've used DS on a killer once, needless to say I just got more intensely tunneled, and I only ran it because my SWF forced me to!

I avoid it at all costs!

Personally when I play killer I'm also much less likely to give you a second chance if you had a ds you were very willing to use on me! You've had a second chance why would I give you another, though I'll never super tunnel someone because they used it!

I usually never run it because there are better perks if you're playing solo. The amount of time I run DS and never get to use it is so high that I don't use it. The only reason I run it sometimes is because, for some reason when I don't run DS, NO ONE ELSE HAS IT and its easy for a killer to tunnel. So I literally waste a perk slot for the sole purpose of the threat of making the killer see I have DS and other people may have DS.

It's kind of messed up when just the idea that every survivor MIGHT have a perk that is incredibly strong makes a killer play completely differently. But hey, what is balance to this team

I use MoM to give the impression of DS in the match to the killer from the Obsession because my "teammates" are yellow or grey ranks.

Yes, solo queue should use DS as just in case you never know.

My usual solo build doesn't use DS but I've had to play matches with no obsession so it is harder.
