I need encouragement
I was on a couple month break from dbd before the twins released. When they released, I played for a good two weeks and then I just got bored of the same stuff every match. I tried switching my build up but then I got stomped into the ground for it. Seeing the twins made me not buy them because it just wasn't worth it. That means there was nothing new for me so I quit again. I've tried to play again, but every time I tried, I would be reminded of all the things that made me quit and I stopped even trying. I really like this game and I truly do want to play, but I've completely lost all motivation to try. Can anyone give me a reason/encouragement to pick it up again?

There are a lot of things that you can learn in this game. I don't think anyone can say that they have learned absolutely everything there is about the game, so try to play different killers every now and then and try to get as good as you can with them. If you don't enjoy being completely stomped and bullied when you try to, it will come with time that you eventually do not mind a loss, so you won't get better at having motivation to play if you don't try. Plus, there's a Blood Rush soon and now's a really good time to get back into the game so you can get some extra BP.
Overall, just don't stress it and just play with the intent of learning new things or having fun, not solely winning.

I can’t think of any advice to give, other than just to try to play this game for fun and perhaps meme around and just relax for a bit. If you play Survivor and you got some friends to play with, that’ll help.
If you’re not the type who cares about pips and rank, that can also help. If you need another break, by all means go for it.
Try to play the game by what’s fun for you. (Without breaking any rules of course). But, if nothing works do not force yourself to play like it’s a chore. If you’re done with something, you’re done. But only you get to decide that.

It seems like you like playing them game when there's new content, but otherwise it feels stale to you and you don't want to play much - is that correct? Personally I like messing around with perk combinations and memeing a bit from time to time helps me keep having fun. For me it's important not to set a goal of a 4k every time for killer and an escape every time for survivor; that just sets me up for stress and frustration. I try to bring fun, niche builds and then I just try to play well. Bonus points if your perks give you secondary objectives to do. One of my favorite matches over the past few months was when I saved this rando back to back times from getting hooked with Saboteur/Break Out, even though we ended up getting 4k'd :D
Rambling now, but I guess I agree that the game feels a lot more stale if you're just playing one main character and running meta builds all day. Variety keeps things interesting for me!

With that said, there's no shame in taking a break for a bit until MMR goes live or there's some new content you want to try out! Doesn't hurt to fill that time with a productive hobby :)

I would not recommend playing twins because they have such unhealthy gameplay.

Well, you can set yourself some goals. When I play for too long, I start to take the game waaay to serious so I take a break and when I come back, I am deranked again and I solely play to have fun, a perfect combination. Try out new stuff, mess around with perk and Killers that I normally don't play,...
It's never bad to take a break from DbD, so don't force yourself into playing the game if you don't enjoy it.

Play the other role if you are just maining one and if you are already playing both roles and yet you find no excitement on playing just take a bigger break or quit alltogether, its not healthy to play something that bores you.
I loved TF2 back in the days, like REALLY LOVED that game but the changes they made changed it and became dull for me so I quitted, I enjoyed all the hours I poured into that game and the memories I treasure so Im glad I didnt tarnish them by keep playing to the point of hating it.

I usually only play on weekends to keep it fresh. Play both sides. Try to make your way through the archive challenges.
You don't have to 100% them. Just try to get from chapter 1 to chapter 4 on the latest tome. Finding a path might take you out of your comfort zone and you may find it spices up the gameplay a bit.

The game can only be enjoyable when you're good at it. Which can only be achieved if you don't do it casually. Basically the only way you'll have fun is if you devote yourself to becoming good with killers or survivors.
I can't give you the words that'll magically make you encouraged about the game. Only you can do that, all I can do is tell you how I feel about it. Then let you make your own decision.

Honestly? Not as it currently is. Like, there's a lot of great fancontent out there, if that's your thing, but the game is just... naw, at the moment, and fewer and fewer people still have hope the devs will actually fix anything for the better (or at least try)

Just don't stress every match. Set your own goals. Mine are often something as simple as scoring a down on a godly looper. Seeing how many times I can Pop this gen after survivors tap it. Stuff like that. Survivors aren't your enemy, they're just playing another part of the same game you enjoy. Be kind.

Sounds like you've already made the correct choice twice. Third times the charm.

Thats not a bad mindset. I had the same too. But lately im thinking isnt it pointless? You reach the skill for rank 1 on both sides quickly, you get still a lot better after that, but then you have no use for your skill. No goal like a rank or similar. Im not talking about tournament level, just good enough to stomp the average red ranks and so good that playing swf is boring.
New MMR could be interesting, but it seems its invisible.

I'm not talking about rank, I am more or less talking about mastering and learning Killer specifics and getting better at each killer. I stopped caring about rank as soon as I got the achievements for both sides. A goal can be something like mastering a certain technique with a certain killer or understanding how the power works completely. The goal can be anything, really, not just rank or killer mastery. Rank is probably only important to reach and learn for newer players, because you very quickly realize rank isn't really satisfying to achieve or anything after your first time getting to Rank 1 or so.

If you need someone to convince you to play a game, then the game is just not for you. You just have fond memories that you want to relive but will not be able to. It's probably best you break all ties from the game, which includes social media and the forums and move on to another game just so you could break the addiction.
I went through the same with World of Warcraft and ended up breaking all ties to it and now I no longer have the desire to go back. You just have to come to the truth that it is time to move on.

Yh like i said. Rank is worthless. But i mean when you have mastered a killer enough to win most of the time. For me its harder to improve when i win anyway. Obviously i improve more with nurse bc i have lots to learn with here. But i think i improve generally faster with a killer when i struggle and i can see the results better. To improve is fun, but without a goal or a measure how much i improved it feels like a time waste when i look back.

Some people weren’t meant to play this game long term; there’s nothing wrong with that.
I enjoy playing DBD, though I will say that I feel much more serenity when I’m not playing.
New licenses are always a good reason to come back and have some fun.

Quit playing til 2022. They are making a bunch of changes with killers and graphics and movement. I feel like soon they might start attacking the bugs once they update the whole games graphics to match the runs we are in. And if you come back then and dont watch gameplay you'll be new to the game. You'll come back to new characters new perk builds and maps and new changes hopefully maybe even reworked characters and bug fixes

Well I am good at both sides, but there's a few issues mostly stemming from match making. On killer I either get babies who I crush or I get 4 man teabaggers who make my life a living hell. It's very rare that I get a match I enjoy at rank 1. For survivor, I mained killer for a few months which led to my survivor rank going back to 20. The higher ranks as a good survivor is awful. I almost always get face camped for being good at looping and it's horrible or my team blows and I just get hatch. I can't even recall my last enjoyable match on either role. I just don't want that horrible cycle to continue.

I completed some of the archives I skipped and I remember why I skipped them. They're such a chore to do and with my survivor rank now being at the 20-14 range, my teammates are terrible. This makes some of those challenges just take too long for the reward that is given.

If you feel like dbd is more of a required chore, find a new game.

As killer or survivor?

If you want to play the game I suggest playing on any other month besides when new content comes out. Once a new killer/survivor releases a lot of old players come back and play till they get bored again. That is a very bad time to play because lobbies are full of try hards.

Hard to say. Switching you build and getting stomped should motivate you to learn how to use the new build effectively, or modify it. Giving up on it because you didn't do as well as you did with your previous build doesn't make sense. That should have been expected. If you play simply for the fun of trying new things, regardless of the results, you will have a lot more fun.

I need some encouragement too, a combination of bad decisions, sweaty killers and bad teammates means I've only won 3 times in my last 30 or so matches :(

What always helps me is to just focus on the fundamentals of the game as Killer. Really learn your lunge distances, focus on ekeing out hits on survivors while they waste the pallet (They drop and still take a hit). Experiment with just brute-forcing loops and only kicking pallets, experiment with your mindgames.
Don't take losses personally. Treat every game like a learning experience.

This is a pretty solid tip and helped me very much to get into killer gameplay when the first rift was out!
but overall also don’t try to push yourself to play the game. If you really don’t have fun playing it, then don’t do it. If you don’t want to abandon the game completely, may be start watching streamers, some of them actually make good content and also try to explain their playstyle etc. That way you get to experience the game without too much frustration and may also improve your own playstyle at least theoretically
