"• We will be addressing colorblindness concerns with the new HUD by the Mid-Chapter release."
Hello,
the title is taken from this Tweet:
This is one response to the WIP of the Colorblind Settings.
First of all, it is great that Colorblind Mode is finally coming to DBD and I think it is awesome that colorblind people will have an easier time while playing DBD.
However, the line in the title is also disappointing.
Yes, it is great that colorblindness concerns regarding the new HUD (Injured State of Survivors) are addressed. However, why is all the (negative) feedback regarding the new HUD completely irrelevant?
Whether I look at the Forums, Twitter or Streams of Content Creators (including Fog Whisperers), most people dislike the new HUD. And IMO it should really be considered that this feedback is really valuable, because while every Balance-change also triggers positive and negative feedback, this is mostly because people want their side to be fun and strong.
However, if something which does not affect balance is changed AND gets such negative feedback, it should be really thought about if you want to go on with that.
It is not even something "players get used to". Even personal taste is not the big factor (e.g. that it looks like a mobile game or does not fit graphic-wise), but people have objectively said what is wrong with the new HUD (e.g. it is too spread out, Portraits make sense, but dont when they are replaced with Standard Symbols,...) and it is really getting ignored.
I did not have high hopes that the new HUD will be scrapped to begin with, however, I am still disappointed that the Feedback was just not taken at all. And I really hope that you have a WIP to show what your plans are for the HUD, because from what was added, it was not justified to change it that much.
I am not one of the persons who says "I quit!!!111", I am playing DBD for a long time and I have fun while doing so, however, I know that the new HUD will decrese my enjoyment of the game A LOT.
I know that my thread will not change anything, because it was seen that negative feedback regarding the HUD of 90% of the vocal playerbase is not important to BHVR, but at least I wanted to write down my frustration.
Kind regards

It has been mentioned in this context as a priority as there has been the announcement about the colorblind mode. They hear the feedback from the players, all kind.
They're not ignoring the constructive criticism, but this issue specifically excludes players from being able to see the same things as someone does who is not colorblind.
Again, considering the colorblind mode announcement, it has been announced together.
They do hear feedback, I can assure you that.

Thank you for the answer. The thing is that this line basically confirms that the new HUD will be implemented, despite most of the players disliking it.

It was said on yesterday's camp-fire stream that the HUD will be worked on for the mid chapter release. They specifically talked about the colorblind issue in the beginning of the stream.
1 -
I also think the new HUD looks too spread out, but it hasn’t even been released yet. Shouldn’t we at least give it try?
3 -
Thank you for that information! I did not watch the Stream, because the Around the Campfire-Streams are more of a hanghout and I dont expect information to be passed in them.
8 -
No problem! Maybe you could check i/ in the beginning :) Sometimes there are news announcements, but they're in the beginning of Around the Camp-fire!

Oh my,never seen you opening a thread O.O
@Topic you and i both know that one of BHVRs biggest problems is proper communication.
Another thing is that it seems like BHVR doesn't care about feedback most of the time.
And even the whole colorblind response felt more like damage control kind of thing. It could have been avoided but BHVR chose not to do so.
18 -
I agree with @Aven_Fallen, the not colorblind friendly icons were just one of the many problems with the new design. And this announcement only confirms that they heard about one problem not the whole.
5 -
Shouldn't they announce things like that somewhere?
Seems quite important to me
That's a perfect example of poor communication from BHVR
24 -
This. Not everyone wants to sit through hours of a stream that is not even supposed to be a dev update to hear some kind of information.
Same thing with exclusive charms. Some of us don't like/can't watch streams.
19 -
I mean they basically said on twitter they didnt wanna anounce it in the first place this early. But you get a gaming award winner ceo staring you down with a lot of influence then you better get moving. Imagine how fast it shot up from bottom to top.
2 -
I think this is the best news. I'm colorblind and as a killer some maps are literally impossible to work with. I have to avoid certain loops in some maps because I can't see whats going on. How is that fair for others who struggle, too?
I think that they are even considering the multiple types of colorblind versus one type is even better. I don't like the reaction of the one dev that he's tired if hearing us blather about this, but I like the action that was taken
1 -
I´m also very worried about the way the announcement is worded. The upcoming accessability changes for colorblind people are awesome, no question about that, but it would be so disheartening if they decided to defecate on player feedback and push out the new HUD in spite of it.
14 -
Took way too long imo. Colorblind players have been asking for these setting for basically since the beginning of the game, the fact that the devs took 4 years to implement it does not speak good of them.
6 -
The Fog Whisperers programme is marketing @SurpriseSurprise they don't get information with regards to upcoming content etc.

I do not see the fact that they mentionned the new HUD without more informations to be a situation where they will release the same HUD that was in the PTB not taking in count the feedback they received.
HUD wasn't the main subject of this particular tweet feed so they probably didn't want to expand more about it than the actual colorblindness issue they are adressing ^^
The fact that the new HUD will be released in mid-chapter and not with the next chapter shows that they are taking count of the feedback and are working on a new version ^^

this is exactly the issue a lot of players have with how they are communicating changes with us, they rarely announce changes they will do outside streams making it feel like our feedback isn't getting through to them that much. They really should just announce things like colorblind settings and how they are thinking of changing the new HUD outside of streams or do so before it becomes a issue like how it was over colorblind settings, that should have been announced during the stream showing us the new HUD.
I mean we will see soon if our feedback got through when they release the new HUD and based on the mountain of feedback i have read it should look nothing like it was when they showed it to us. From the placement of icons to the character portraits and even the overlays on perks, status effects, and character portraits there are a lot of things to be changed to make it look good and to satisfy the community.
5 -
The new HUD is too spread out. I like the reduced size to generator icon and character portraits but having to look in 4 places instead of 2 is a bad move personally.
5 -
Wait and see what the live version will look like. Many people gave this kind of feedback and there will be changes made once the new HUD hits live

doesnt really come as a surprise to me that the new HUD is gonna make it through.
their order of operations here is to blame for it:
they first developed the new HUD and then asked for our opinions on it.
which works when everyone likes the changes, but in a case like this, where the HUD is considered a bad implementation by like 85% of the playerbase, we end up in a situation where they have already put their ressources into the change (time, money, effort, ...) and are therefore going to push it through no matter what.
they basically already denied any form of critisism on it in the very stream they announced it in with the sentence "we know its a big change for all of us and that it is going to take some time to get used to" (not a 1:1 quote btw, but its what they said), which means that any critisism we give on it can easily be brushed away with the excuse "people just dont like change. they will get used to it after some time" - which in itself isnt false, but does not mean the HUD was good.
of course we are "going to get used to it eventually" - after all, as it currently stands, the new HUD is the only option we have.
but just because we "got used to it" does NOT mean that we'd prefer it over the old HUD or that it was a good implementation.
and all of this could have been prevented, had they just come out to us about their planned changes at the BEGINNING of their development phase, showing us concept art of their new HUD and asking us whether that was going to be a good or a bad idea (giving their reasoning as to why they think its a good idea ofc).
had they done this, we could have told them from the beginning where the flaws lie and whether the HUD change was necessary at all.
we all together could have created an interesting new HUD that everyone was happy with - even if it just were some minor changes on the current HUD.
and that is what annoys me most about it: the lack of communication that lead us to this very moment.
at this point im honestly just hoping that they will continue to get backlash on it until they decide that maybe it wasnt such a good idea to begin with and drop the HUD changes alltogether.

It is good and I don't mean to be the devil's advocate here (I think I am using this phrase right), but it took them years to implement this small change compared to other updates such as the endgame collapse (and the "startgame" collapse, we haven't heard any news on that at all for a long time now). They did take some feedback, but poor communication from BHVR is still a huge problem.
3 -
A lot of people in this thread have more faith in BHVR than I do. They haven't directly stated they are changing the new HUD/UI anywhere (unless they did in the fire-side stream, something most don't watch) so I'm not sure how anyone believes they are.
If they do change it? Great. But I'm not expecting it.
3 -
Yeah let's hope they take some feedback on it because the additions are nice and I'm grateful for that just like I mentioned before not a fan of the layout.

Let's be real here.. the only reason why "color blind" mode was being forced to their priority is because of the negative press they started to receive. They state "this is not how we wanted to reveal this" because it was never actually their priority; hence why it won't be ready for 4.5.0. Because of Steven Spohn, Polygon.com picked up the news story regarding our outcry and made an entire article on it.
Dead by Daylight dev announces colorblind mode amid controversy

This is all good that it's finally gonna get addressed, but yeah, this is pure 100% damage control.
7 -
Can this guy tweet about optimization in DbD? 😢
Would be cool after like 4 years
6 -
Lol.. I wish; I'll take what we can get though. I just don't understand how or who decides on what projects they should work on first. I mean this feature seemed like a no brainer that should have been done a long time ago.

BHVR has been doing a lot of Damage Control lately. 🤭

Yea whoever is in charge currently of these decisions needs to be let off because my lord they have made very questionable decisions about what to keep secret and whta not to
2 -
You guy's are doing great hey who knows maybe next patch you'll add in subtitles for deaf player's...because you're caring like that
1 -
Just a quick update on who else is spreading the word. Kotaku, SquareEnix, Staff at WeArePlayground (Designers that helped create Fable). It just goes to show that your words never fall on deaf ears.. there's always people willing to help. It just takes patience and dedication; but do not let this get brushed under the carpet; keep on it until you guys see the results you've been asking for. This is not just a "Nerf DS" cry, this is an issue thats been harming many from our community and alienating people that would love to play with us.

I think the new hud would kind of goof the color mode tbh...The old one would be easier to put into a color blind mode
3 -
when is he midchapter probably going to release?
0 -
It did get potimized. Sony and Microsoft released new consoles that can handle BHVR's poorly coded game!
0 -
Probably Feb 2nd, but there is no official date given. Just based on previous releases.

Wanted to include this for anyone interested in watching. Basically it’s an outside view of the controversies going on in bhvr especially with what happened recently.
Time stamp is 30:57.
3 -
I'm happy for colorblind players but I really hope they address more than just colorblind accessibility when it comes to the new HUD.
2 -
They hear sure, but do they listen?
2 -
Most likely February 2nd or February 8th.. It's usually on a Tuesday.

what's sad about this clip is that these people don't know how deeply abrasive BHVR is towards their community in general.
