Making DBD scarier
I've heard this topic come up quite a bit and but had nothing to add up until the other day I was playing Alien Isolation. A game that made running feel like a dangerous choice (because the Alien would learn where you are and get you). So my thought is this: If Devs want to make the game scarier, why not add more consequences for running. Even if it's just something as simple as increasing scratchmarks for walking and running, I think the additonal info would help make the killer have more of a fun edge wothout completely breaking the game. What do you guys think?

Watch speed runs of that game and tell me the players are scared.
Fear in games will never stick as the player will become numb to it after understanding what is going on.

Scratched mirror Myers on Lerys scares people.

I'm pretty numb when it comes to scary things so I don't know anything that would make the game scarier. The thing that puts me on edge most is missing a skill check when doing a gen with others in fear of being shamed 8,u
A game that did put me on edge a lot was the Fatal Frame series. But it was because sometimes ghosts just popped up out of nowhere. In my face. There's a few Killers that can do that but I'm learning how to look around so I tend to see them most of the time before they get too close to me. However, I've been pulled off gens and totems and that always made me jump xD
Maybe more scares on maps? Like Midwich has that body flop out of a locker. I know that's a jump scare and I don't care for them when overdone, but it could add a little creepiness. Better to make it random, though. Not just like when you walk past it - it gets predictable.

The only thing that could keep this game scary are jump scares. I'd like more of that implemented and it's talked about here when "hardmode" comes up. No terror radius, no scratch marks, no auras-- just no indicators, period.
If not, I'd like a map where there are sections of it (or rooms) that are in black & white, or have no audio, or be in total darkness with no terror radius and the killer slowly comes into view within 10 meters, or maybe an area that's dark but lights flicker every few seconds so you can see your surroundings during those milliseconds. You get the picture.
However you know there's going to be some type of complaint about inaccessibility if anything like that goes live, so I doubt it will happen. Unfortunately.

Yeah I know it won't keep the scare level up forever I just was thinking that having to slow down survivors or add to the killers feeling of looming doom/anxiety outside the feeling of a chase

Spooky Myers and Spooky Ghostface with their classic costume cause terror in the survivors.

They should make the maps more enclosed. Now you can see the killer from a mile away and just run away without worries. For example in Lery's I'm always tense because I don't know from which door the killer could jump out.

After 4 years, wearing a headset stepping on a Hag trap still makes me dribble in my underpants a little.
Making all killers have no terror radius for 1-2min at the start of every game could add some jump scares. Would only be at start of game but somethings better than nothing.

That would be so OP. You can already run trail of torment if you want to be a spooky killer.

Would it be op though, just means survivors would have to be much more aware at the start of a match.

even if they make it more terrifying we will get used to it and it will stop being scary, but still I would like the environment to be more scary

Yes. I play a ton of Bubba and with good addons his chainsaw dash is around 35-40 meters long I would guess. I run whispers and typically find my first chase in the first 20-30 seconds of the game. It would be really nuts to just walk up to a gen and chainsaw somebody right off the bat every match.

Would get boring if you faced it every game.

Like gen rushes?

Were gen rushes scary?

No, but its boring af. Yet, survivor mains seem to love it.

Coulrophobia is real, some people feel very uneasy playing against Clowns
