Prestige doesn't really do anything except give you a skin and a number above the character's name/on their character selection portrait, so I'd go for levelling David.
But, if you want that fancy bloody cosmetic... Dwight be waiting, hmm?

Prestige grants you a cosmetic they grants a bonus to luck I think. I prestiged my Dwight, now I'm leveling my other survivors up to the level I get their teachable perks at, then I'm going to get Dwight to prestige 3 and have all the perks on one guy.

Before prestige Dwight, you could consume ALL items and offerings, and play as a POOR Dwight for some time. My Dwight is poor, very poor at P3 Lvl 50

Dwight because overall his perks are good, good, good. While David's are Great, Okay, Terrible.

Prestige doesn't give you teachable perks, it resets a character to level 1 whilst allowing you to keep teachables unlocked
